(From Lakin Funeral Home)Lyna Lea Deaton, age 80, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at her home in Wentworth, MO with family by her side. She was born in New Hampton, IA on Thursday, December 2, 1943; daughter of Lester and Virginia (Reynolds) Guenther. She was a 1963 graduate of Sublette High School in Kansas.
Lyna married James Claudie Deaton on June 2, 1963, in Fredricksburg, IA. She owned and operated the Donut Shop in Satanta, KS and the Dinner Bell Diner in Pierce City, MO.
Lyna loved her family and enjoyed cooking anything they wanted to eat. She was also a terrific seamstress; sewing prom dresses, shirts, dresses, and the wedding dress for herself and her daughter. Lyna enjoyed baking and decorating cakes (angel food cakes from scratch, cherry cheesecakes, and many wedding cakes). She was a team-driver with her husband traveling all over the country.
Lyna and James enjoyed spending time eating and dancing at the senior center with friends. He often said she was handier than three men; she could organize, clean, and fix almost anything. She thoroughly enjoyed bottle-feeding baby calves and liked the chickens. Lyna was a member of Chapel of Grace church in Monett, MO. She cherished time she spent with family and friends. She will be missed by many.
Surviving are the following: one daughter, Audra (Daniel) Lindner of Wentworth, MO; one son, Gardy Deaton of Wentworth MO; three grandchildren, Brittany (Jonathan) Little and their three children, Kaleb (Mercedes) Freeman and their three children, and Kyla Freeman and her child; one brother, Jacob Guenther of Waterloo, IA; one sister, Mardella Deaton of Waterloo, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Those welcoming her to heaven include her parents, Lester and Virginia; her husband, James Deaton; a daughter, Deborah Deaton; a great-grandson, Kaden Freeman-Abramovitz; a brother, John Guenther; and a brother-in-law, Jack Deaton.
The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM to service time.

Services will be at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Saturday, September 14, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jimmie Finch officiating. Burial will follow at Cook Family Cemetery in Wentworth, MO.
Memorials may be made, in Lyna's memory, to Chapel of Grace Church or Integrity Hospice in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
