(From Parker Mortuary)Janet Sue Hankins, age 70 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at her home following a short illness. Janet was born September 25, 1954 in Lamar, Missouri to the late Gene and Mary (Bailey) Campbell.
Janet graduated from Lamar High School with the class of 1972 and later received her Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Missouri Southern State College. She worked for different C.P.A. offices in Joplin and was a bookkeeper for Joplin Workshop prior to retirement.
In her free time, Janet enjoyed traveling with her husband and she was a former member of the Missouri Master Naturalist Club, spending lots of time at Prairie State Park.
Janet married her long-time companion, Randal Scheffler in December of 2002. Other survivors include her step-children, Travis Scheffler and Heidi Scheffler, both of Joplin; granddaughter, Josie Clark of Joplin; brothers Alec Campbell of Lamar and Randy Campbell (Sharon) of the state of Colorado; sister, Cathy Campbell (Steve Meeks) of Fayetteville, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Other than her parents, Janet is preceded in death by a brother, Gene.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
