(From Parker Mortuary)Loretta Mae (Vogel) Edwards, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at a local hospital after a sudden illness.
Loretta was born May 23, 1940 in Scottsbluff, NE, daughter of the late Fred Vogel and Irene (Nolde) Vogel, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Mervin Vogel of Omaha, NE. She graduated from Broadwater, NE High School. She moved to Joplin in 1970 and worked for Consumers Market in Joplin, Webb City, and Neosho for over 26 years as a checker. She was known to be quick witted and had a laugh that everyone would remember.
She was married to Jack Kitchingham until 1980, and then on May 2, 1981 she married David Edwards. The couple made their home in Redings Mill and they attended St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She loved spending time outdoors tending to her flowers and garden which she loved to can. She was also known as a good seamstress and made clothes for many of her family members. She was known for the holidays and her homemade cabbage buns, German Kuga Desserts, and peanut butter pie which the family enjoyed very much. David described her as his “Angel on Earth," and thought she was the kindest, most loving and thoughtful person anyone has ever known. She will be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her son, Mike Edwards.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, David Edwards; children, Don Vogel and wife Kathy of Smyrna, GA, Jack Kitchingham, Jr., Cheryl Kitchingham both of Joplin, Gerald Kitchingham and his wife Victoria Ann of Diamond, MO, and Shelly Huffman of Carl Junction, MO; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Minister Jeremy Kitchingham officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Don Vogel, Jack Kitchingham, Jr., Gerald Kitchingham, Alec Huffman, Jackson Huffman, and Jackie Kitchingham, III serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
