Betty Mitchell

(From Ulmer Funeral Home)

Betty June Mitchell, 82, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on November 26, 2025. Born on November 30, 1942, in Reeds, Missouri, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love.

Betty was the daughter of James Beam and Lucy Ritchie and was also lovingly raised by her stepfather, Clarence Ritchie. She grew up surrounded by a large family and carried that sense of closeness throughout her life.

Betty was united in marriage to Rex Lee Mitchell on May 18, 1959. They were married 62 years before his passing in 2022. A devoted homemaker, Betty poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home where her children and grandchildren always felt loved and supported.

She was the proud mother of seven children, Terry Myers of Carthage, Pat Griffith of Carthage, Sheila Fulkerson of Carthage, Kim Grizzle of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Sarah Chapman (Jerry) of Carthage, Gary Mitchell (Lori) of Carthage, and the late rex Mitchell. Together with Rex she built a legacy that continues to grow- 33 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Her calm and loving spirit touched each generation deeply.

Betty is also survived by her brother Jimmy Beam and half sisters Sharon Ritchie and Mary Owens. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; several siblings; her beloved son Rex; and six grandchildren.

A woman of unwavering faith, Betty worshipped the Lord all the days of her life. Her devotion was evident in the way she lived with grace, patience, and compassion. She cherished every moment spent with her family and took immense pride in the bond they shared. Betty will be remembered for her gentle presence and steadfast love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best- her children, grandchildren, extended family members, and all who were blessed to be part of her life.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
