Nina Lee Smith, age 79 of Joplin, passed away at 8:56 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born September 22, 1935 in Louisburg, KS, she was the daughter of the late Ersel (Curly) Mapes and Mary Genevieve Smith Mapes and had lived in Joplin most of her lifetime. A devoted homemaker and mother, she had also worked at the former Pacific-Mercury, Macy's and Christman's Department Stores, Lewis Motor Supply, Southtown Cleaners and Howsmon's Office Products. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
On August 3, 1957, she married Neil Smith in Joplin. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Smith and Mark Shiner of Republic, MO, Debrah Ward and husband Bryan of Kansas City, MO; a son, Neil Smith, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Odessa, MO; three sisters, Eva Jean Mayfield of Greenfield, MO, Erselene Hamlin of Joplin, Nancy Jones and husband William of McPherson, KS; seven grandchildren, Erin Cartwright and Jacob, Monica Reid and Jared, Tara Duke and Chris, Brandi Patrick and Chris, Jennifer Box and Andy, Christopher Ward and Heather, William Endicott and Ashley; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Jeffers and her husband Bruce; and brother-in-law, Jack Mayfield.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with viewing preceding at 9:30 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Branham officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Grandsons serving as pallbearers will be William Endicott, Chris Ward, Jacob Cartwright, Andy Box, Jared Reid, Chris Duke and Chris Patrick. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, in care of the mortuary.
