William “Bill” Erwin III, age 72, of Joplin, Missouri passed away February 5, 2015 following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 25, 1942 in Belleville, Illinois to William and Eileen Wathern Erwin.
Bill served in the United States Navy for fifteen years, during which he received training in several areas including drug abuse counseling, criminology, law enforcement plus a host of other subjects and areas. He worked for Litton Aerospace where he was a quality control inspector for missile guidance systems. Bill was a man of many talents. He worked with the disabled at the Arkansas Support Network, and made a brail book for college students. Later in life he received an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Art. Bill was a very gifted and multitalented artist.
He married Linda Edwards on May 10 1996 in Rogers, Arkansas and she survives. Bill is also survived by three sons; William Erwin, Bullhead, Arizona, Scott Erwin, Carl Junction, Missouri, Gregory Erwin, Los Angles, California. One step son; Larry Scanlan, two step daughters; Caity Ingram, Skye Perkins, one brother Jay Erwin, St. Louis, Missouri, two sisters; Maraleen Erwin, Charleen Glasgow, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial services with military honors will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Darin Youngberg officiating. A time of visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to the Lafayette House in care of the mortuary.
