Margaretta Thornberry, age 88 of Joplin, Mo., passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following an illness.
Margaretta was born on December 8, 1926, in Magazine, Ar., the daughter of Jay and Mamie (Cooper) Glasgow. She was a homemaker, spending her days loving and caring for her family. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Joplin, Margaretta has recently been attending Forest Park Baptist Church. She was an avid bridge player belonging to several bridge clubs throughout the years.
She married James Thornberry, on June 5, 1948, he survives. Additional survivors include one son, J. Bruce Thornberry and his wife Laura of Tampa, Fl.; one daughter, Patti Powers and her husband Rick of Joplin; one sister, Joyce Burkart of San Diego, Ca.; one brother, T.R. Glasgow of Booneville, Ar.; four grandchildren, Erica Armstrong and her husband Kyle, Dr. Braden Powers and his wife Nicole, Adam Thornberry, Alicia De Moraes and her husband Sandro; and a great-grandson, Henry De Moraes. Margaretta was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, T.J. Glasgow, Donnie Glasgow, Bobby Glasgow; two sisters, Mamie Harper and Christine McKinnie; and a great-granddaughter, Lucy Mae Armstrong.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Mission Joplin at Forest Park Baptist Church in care of the mortuary.
