James Donald (Jim) Frerer passed away February 13, 2015, following a long illness. Jim was born September 15, 1935 in Carthage, a son of the late Joseph L. Frerer and Ona (Daugherty) Frerer. Jim attended school in Jasper, MO, graduating in 1953 furthering his education at the University of Missouri. As a teenager, Jim obtained his pilot’s license as well as flight instructor and commercial pilot licenses. Through the years, Jim instructed numerous students in a tail dragger. Jim owned and operated Frerer Flying Service, logging thousands of hours as a crop duster in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. This love of flying was instrumental in his hobby of rebuilding antique aircraft. Jim married Nancy Lauery on March 28, 1980 in Oronogo, MO; she survives.
Additional survivors include a son; James (Jimmy) Frerer and wife, Liria, Tupelo, Mississippi; two step children, Susan Slade of Naperville, Illinois and Clint Housh and wife, April, Ridgecrest, California; a daughter-in-law, Cara Housh Terry, two grandchildren, Chad and Danielle Frerer; 16 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ona Frerer, a brother, Joe and his wife, Marie Frerer, a grandson John Paul Frerer and a stepson, Todd Housh.
The Frerer family would like to give a very special thank you to Edna Storm, Visiting Angels, for her wonderful care. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 16 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. A visitation will follow after the memorial service.
