Donna L. Sharp, age 99 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 following a sudden illness.
She was born December 22, 1915 in Webb City, Missouri to Bruce and Viola Rice Williams.
Donna grew up in the Joplin/Webb City area and graduated from Joplin High School in 1933. She attended the University of Missouri at Columbia for 2 years then transferred to the University of California at Berkeley then graduated from UMC in 1937 with a degree in Sociology. She worked at Marshall Fields in Chicago, Illinois for year. Donna then returned home to care for her mother. Donna enjoyed reading, playing Bridge and was a member of Twin Hills.
She married William “Cookie” Sharp on January 1, 1946 in Joplin, Missouri and he preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Nancy and son in law Roger as well as a brother Robert Williams.
Donna is survived by a granddaughter, Wendy Lovelace and a great grandson, Caleb Cruse, also her care givers of nine years, Nick and Carol Wohlert, and numerous friends and extended family members.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday February 17, 2015 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Reverend Dr. Dave Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation in care of the mortuary.
