Robert D. Copeland, age 91 of Joplin, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch. Robert was born on March 31, 1923 at the Wildwood Ranch.
He married Evelyn Marie French on June 15, 1942. Together they had three sons.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded in action while in the Philippines.
He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and a Purple Heart. He was a disabled veteran.
After leaving the service he worked as an office machine manager for many years at Firestone Typewriter Co. and Hobbs Typewriter Co. Robert had great faith in Jesus and was a member of Faith Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Evelyn; sons, Bob Copeland and wife Kathe, Ron Copeland and wife Pearl of Joplin, Jim Copeland of Escondido, CA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for family and friends will be held at the Parker Chapel on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to V.F.W. Post 534 of Joplin, in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
