Carl Montgomery

Carl Montgomery, age 79, Joplin, MO, passed away on July 29, 2015 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Walter and Rose Ann (Yocum) Montgomery. He graduated from Seneca High School with the class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, earning Petty Officer, second class. He worked in San Diego for several years as a pipefitter, moving to Miami, Oklahoma where he was employed at BF Goodrich. While there he received recognition for several improvement suggestions for the plant. When the plant closed he went to Muskogee and was employed at Fort Howard Paper Company and worked there until he retired. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Gordon Zane and Leon Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Betty Cameron Montgomery of the home, three children Walter and wife Marilyn of Broken Arrow, OK; Carla of Stillwater, OK; and Alan and wife Dana of Okmulgee, OK. One brother, Clayton; grandchildren: Michelle, Rachel and Jared, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Joplin and a life member of Miami Elks Lodge. 
 
Funeral services under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, were held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin. Burial was in the Seneca Cemetery with Danny Garner, Jerry Owen, Jack Hayes, Frank Green, John Gibson, and Larry “Butch” Kuhn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Val Christenson, Art Hines, David Hair, Mike Robinson , Louis Lagasse,. Ron McNear, Jerry Gragg, and Mike Hampton.

The family would like to thank Freeman Cancer Center, Doctors, nurses, and staff and Avalan Hospice.
