Eleanor McPheeters

Mary “Eleanor” McPheeters, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday August 4, 2015, at Joplin Health & Rehab, following an illness.

Eleanor was born on August 20, 1924 in Joplin the daughter of the late Otto and Cecil (Smith) Newman. She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1942 and attended Joplin Junior College. She married Delbert Adler on February 5, 1944, from this union were two daughters. She worked as a bookkeeper for Oklahoma Tire and Supply and Flemming Foods. She was a member of a camping club and she enjoyed square dancing, sewing and quilting. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Carthage, Mo.

She married Vernon McPheeters and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Elwood Newman. 

Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Cindy Edwards, Joplin, and Mary Sutton and husband Jim, Wichita, Ks.; two sisters, June Emrich, Oklahoma City, Ok., and Shirley Lutz, Pueblo, Co.; three granddaughters, Misty Stephens, Michelle Harris, and Maci Edwards; and seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Hanna, Olivia, Aidan, Ada, Mia, and William.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Jim Dillow will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Misty Stephens, Michelle Harris, Maci Edwards, Aidan Stephens, Randy Harris, and Will Kavenaugh.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. on Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
