(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Joyce “Jody” Alane Hatfield-Curtis, age 74, of Jasper, Missouri, peacefully left this earth on Friday, December 20, 2024. Jody, as she was known, was born on June 25, 1950, to the late King S. Asbell and Bonnie G. Asbell. Jody was the youngest of 4 children and was a lifelong resident of the area.
On June 4, 1966, Jody Asbell became the bride of James R. Hatfield Sr. in a double ring ceremony in Joplin, Missouri. They began their married life in Carthage, Missouri, then several years later moved to Jasper, Missouri. There, Jody and James raised their children, made many friends and worked hard to provide a good life for their family. James proceeded Jody in death on June 25, 2003.
For several years, Jody continued to work at the Jasper popcorn plant until her retirement. Jody was an avid reader of Stephen King; and she loved all genres of music from AC/DC to Johnny Cash to Rob Zombie. She loved going to the casinos and sometimes coming home with winnings. But, most of all Jody loved her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Jody enjoyed spending time with her family any chance she could get.
In August 2020, Jody found her second wind when she met Rob Curtis. When the two met one another, it was instant fireworks as well as laughter. Rob unmercifully always teased Jody about one thing or another, and Jody always gave it right back. The two of them enjoyed going Crappie fishing. There are plenty of stories of Jody falling as she’s getting into the boat, getting the fishing line caught on a tree or breaking Rob‘s poles. But they always laughed about those incidents.
On June 17, 2023, Jody became the bride of Rob Curtis. The two of them built a lovely home together, with much laughter, much love and many, many family gatherings. Rob and Jody loved to listen to 1950’s and 60’s music. They spent many a night dancing the night away. Over the past 4 years Jody laughed, loved and lived life her way, enjoying every minute of the ride.
Jody is survived by her husband Rob Curtis; her three children, Tracy (Teri) Hatfield of Webb City, Missouri; James (Gina) Hatfield of Jasper, Missouri and Clayton Hatfield of Jasper, Missouri.
Jody loved her grandchildren, Alanea (Joshua) Tosh, Carthage, Missouri; Jesse Vance, Neosho, Missouri; Mason Hatfield and Madelyn Hatfield Jasper, Missouri. Jody had twin great grandsons, James and Jacob Tosh Carthage, Missouri.
Extended family, Brother-in-Law Mike (Karen) Curtis, Missouri; lifelong son Larry Graham, Oklahoma; niece Geneia Morgan, Jody’s wing woman, confidant and second daughter and son Jordan Case, Joplin, Missouri; niece Lynn (Scott) Ratley, Joplin, Missouri, and children Chasity (Mike) Gray, Sarcoxie, Missouri and Jonathon Ashworth, Joplin, Missouri.
There will be a funeral service for Jody at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Ulmer Funeral Home. A visitation will be held the previous night from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will take place at Water’s Cemetery immediately after the service.
