(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Frances "Darlene" (Scott) Leeper, age 91 of Columbus, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024 at 10:50 PM, Medicalodge, Columbus.
Darlene was born to the late Jessee and Madeline (Churchill) Scott, October 4, 1933 in Columbus, Kansas. She graduated from West Mineral High School. Shortly after finishing school, Darlene married Verne Edgar Leeper on November 20, 1951. he preceded her in death August 31, 2008.
Throughout her life, Darlene did a wonderful job taking care of her family, acting as room mother at school for all the class parties and activities. Family was very important to her. Darlene always was willing to help babysit the grandchildren and help her family in any way she could. She was a housewife, and did her share of working in the fields as well. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting, and decorating cookies and cakes. Her family fondly remembers her beautiful big smile.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Scott.
Surviving include three sons: Vern A. Leeper of Joplin, MO, Scott Leeper (wife Joy) of Pittsburg, KS, and James Leeper (wife Nancy) of Columbus, KS; one daughter Kathy Martin of Joplin, MO; 9 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS, and will be held at the funeral home Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Prior to the funeral, the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Edgmand Cemetery. Dinner will be served at First Christian Church at 1:00 PM.
