Sue Scheurich

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Danna Sue (Cook) Scheurich passed from this life on May 29, 2023 at home with her family. It was Memorial Day, a holiday she revered.

Sue was born in Cassville, Missouri on March 11, 1951 to James Daniel Cook and Jessie Allene Cox Cook. Because of her father’s Army postings, Sue moved several times in her youth from Missouri to California, Kentucky and Augsburg, Germany. Her family finally settled in Monett where Sue made friendships that continued throughout her life. With four years as a cheerleader and the title of “Courtesy Queen” under her belt, Sue graduated from Monett High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University. She married Gregory M. Scheurich in 1971.

A life of partnership in family and business followed. Sue was employed by First National Bank, Sebastian Equipment Company and CNC Machine Products.

Service to others was part of Sue’s DNA. She was a tireless worker for St. Mary’s Church and Joplin Area Catholic Schools. She delivered dinners to homebound seniors on behalf of Good Samaritan Meals on Wheels for many years and was a Mercy Hospital volunteer. She was a member and past chair of The Friends of St. Avips in support of Spiva Center for the Arts. Sue’s gracious favors and deeds for her many friends were a hallmark of her selfless life.

Her favorite activities included attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals, traveling with friends, convening with her book club and bridge groups, and meeting with The Domino Girls, her Monett High School classmates. She was an honorary member of the McAuley class of 1966.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by Greg’s parents, Martha (Grandma) and Raymond (Bobo) Scheurich and her three siblings, Richard F. Cook, William A. Cook and Sandra Buckland-Look.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory; two children, Jeffery Scheurich (Veronica) and Elizabeth Scheurich (Josh Taylor); two grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew Scheurich; eleven nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Joplin. Funeral service will be Friday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s. A private interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery will take place at a later date.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House of the Four States in Joplin or Lafayette House.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
