Darlene McGraw

(From Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home)

Darlene Ruth (Fine) McGraw went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 16, 2024.

Darlene was born on June 6, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri to Melsor James Fine III and Frances Pearl (Mayer) Fine. She graduated from Wright City High School (MO) in 1960. Darlene was united in marriage to George Russell McGraw on May 26, 1968, in St. Charles, Missouri. To this union four children were born: Penelope Ann (McGraw) DeLong, Jennifer Lavonne (McGraw) Curtis, Matthew Linden McGraw, and Mark Allen McGraw.

Before marriage, Darlene worked with disabled children at the Emmaus Home in St. Charles, Missouri. After marriage, she worked as a ward clerk for Saint Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Missouri until she became a mother. She and George moved back to Nevada, Missouri in the early 70’s to raise their family in Nevada and El Dorado Springs. She returned to work in healthcare as a CNA at Community Springs Healthcare in El Dorado Springs.

Darlene furthered her education by attending Nevada Vo-tech School and graduating from the Practical Nursing Program in 1989. She worked as a License Practical Nurse for several years at Community Springs Healthcare. Darlene moved to Joplin, Missouri in 2001 and continued working as an LPN in long-term and home health care until her retirement. She loved caring for her patients and frequently sang to them also.

Her greatest joys in life were worshipping her Savior and her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and then Harmony Heights Baptist Church in Joplin. She loved to sing hymns and participated in church choir along with singing solo specials while a member of both churches. Darlene made raising her children in the church her number one priority. She also enjoyed cooking delicious meals, sewing, gardening, and reading. She was the “Best Mom”. Others always praised her kindness, generosity, and sense of humor.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and her brothers, Allen Fine and Richard Fine.

She is survived by her daughters, Penelope Delong (Donald) of Joplin, MO and Jennifer Curtis (Joseph) of Springfield, MO; sons, Matthew McGraw (Bailee Chamberlin) of Oronogo, MO and Mark McGraw (Cassie) of Republic, MO; grandchildren: Rebecca Curtis, Michael McGraw, Grace McGraw, George McGraw II, and Wyatt McGraw (Due January 2025); step grandchildren, Lindsey (DeLong) Mitchell and Colton Burton; and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Our mother will be greatly missed, but we have her love and guidance to remember, and we know she is at peace in Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons to help distribute Bibles.
