Glendon Pruitt

Glendon Dewight Pruitt, age 84, departed this life on November 14, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born on January 18, 1940, in Pearson, Oklahoma to Egbert Homer and Leola Hale Pruitt.

He graduated from St. Louis High School in St. Louis, Oklahoma in 1958 where he lettered in baseball.








Glendon married the love of his life, Janice May Burrow, on June 23, 1962, in Neosho, Missouri. Together, they built a life rooted in love and service. Janice preceded him in death on December 9, 2009.

Glendon proudly entered military service in 1963. He served his country in the United States Army through 1965.

After leaving the military and returning from Overseas, Glendon and Janice settled in Joplin, Missouri where he started working in the Upholstery business. He enjoyed making old furniture new and customizing cars and boats.

In 1973, after moving to Neosho, Glendon joined the Army National Guard and served through 1979. During this time, he also worked as a Reserve Deputy for the Newton County Sheriff’s Department and continued Upholstery work and enjoyed coaching Neosho Little League Baseball.

In 1980 he returned to Active Duty as Company Clerk for the Missouri Army National Guard, 203rd Engineering Battalion. Later promoted to Staff Sergeant. After many years of dedicated service, he was put in charge of the Neosho Armory before finally retiring from service in 1997.

During his time in the military, he served in Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Germany. Following his military career, he worked as a school bus driver for the Neosho School District until his retirement in 2008.

Faith played a central role in Glendon's life. He was a devoted Christian and member of Northside Baptist Church in Neosho, Missouri, where he served as a Deacon. He found joy in fellowship and took great pride in helping others.

Glendon had a passion for cooking, fishing, bird hunting, and Kansas City Royal’s Baseball hobbies that brought him peace and joy over the years. He was a man who valued family, faith, and simple pleasures.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Pruitt of Joplin, Missouri.

Also surviving are his Sisters-in-law; Mary Lou Pruitt, LaDean Reed, and Luann Burrow.






 

Nephews; Greg (Julie) Reed, Lyndall Burrow, James (Susan) Rhea, Mike (Lori) Crosswhite, Mike (Michelle) Pruitt, Rick (Mel) Pruitt, Tony (Kelly) Pruitt, Ron (Cindy) Pruitt, Tom (Marcia) Pruitt. Nieces; Phyllis (David) Battle, Judy (Scott) Belden, Kristi (Steve) Bitner, Kristi Crosswhite, Janice Huston, Gina (Randy) Harr, Mary Jo Hillman, Anita Faye (Charles) Flanagan, Carla (Jack) Gatewood, Peggy Moulden, Janet Pruitt.

In addition to his wife, Glendon is preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.

Services to honor and celebrate Glendon’s life will be announced by the family.

Glendon Dewight Pruitt leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
