Brenda Morton

Brenda Mae Morton, age 78, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin.

She was born September 4, 1946 in Gonzales, TX. Her parents were Alton and Jessie (Bauer) Freeman.

She graduated from Freer High School, in Freer, Texas, in 1965. She then moved to Dallas, Texas and began working for Texas Instruments.

Brenda married Art Morton on August 13, 1966, in Durant, Oklahoma. After living in Galena, Kansas for a few years, they moved to Olathe, Kansas, returning to Galena in 1977. She began working for Celltron, Galena, in 1986 and retired in July 2023 at the age of 76. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Galena.

Surviving are four children, Micki Morton, Joplin, Jessica Hall (Stephen), Galena, Stephanie Morton Moore (Walker), Galena, and Andrew Morton (Stephanie), Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Alton Freeman, Houston, Texas, and Louis Freeman (Cindy), Freer, Texas, three sisters, Bobbie Wiederkehr, Freer, Texas, Beverly Steph (Rick), Brenham, Texas, and Donna Hendricks, Alice, Texas; and six grandchildren, who affectionally called her Nanny, Haley Hall, Garrett Hall (Hannah), Liberty Moore, Lane Moore, Oliver Morton, and Nora Morton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Joyce Hartnett.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Charlie Idleman and Garrett Hall will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
