Celia Sieglinger

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Celia Ann Braeckel Sieglinger died peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 13, 2025. She was born on December 11, 1930 in Joplin, Missouri to Albert B. Braeckel and Gladys A. (DuPlantier) Braeckel.

She was a lifetime resident of Joplin—leaving only long enough to go to college. She attended St. Peter’s Catholic School (and what is now McAuley High School) through grade school and high school, graduating in 1948. She graduated from Joplin Junior College in 1950 and Webster College, St. Louis, in 1952.

After college, she returned to Joplin to briefly teach Speech and English in the Joplin School System. She soon joined her father at Braeckel’s Inc., working there until 1960 when she left to raise her family.

She married Fred Sieglinger on December 27, 1958 at St. Peter’s in Joplin. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2009.

She was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, an avid Bridge player, and a curious, interested, supportive force in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by children Amy Sieglinger (Richard Huskey), Breck Sieglinger, and Sara Freitas (Richard Freitas); grandchildren Ethan (Danielle) Freitas, Nicholas (Abigail) Freitas and son A.J., Emily Freitas, Rebecca Freitas, Madeline (Alexander) Bukharin, and Alex Sieglinger; and a step-grandson Briton (Savanah) Freitas and daughter Brianna. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Nancy Jeep, and a brother John Braeckel.

There will be a Rosary 5:00 p.m. and visitation 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Thornhill Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, on Sunday, September 28.

A funeral Mass is planned for Monday, September, 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made to the Joplin Area Catholic Schools in care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
