Ray Holden

Ray E. Holden of Joplin, MO passed away on September 15, 2025, in Springfield, MO after an illness. He was born November 18, 1945, to Jack and Margaret (Young) Holden in Joplin, MO. He graduated from Galena High School, Galena, KS in 1963. He then attended the former Jasper County Junior College in Joplin, and then obtained a certificate in cost accounting from LaSalle

University. He worked for W. R. Grace in Joplin from 1965 until their closure in 1988, with his final position being accounting supervisor. He then worked as the district treasurer for USD #499 in Galena, KS from 1988 until his retirement in 2015.








He was united in marriage to Rosemary D. Phipps in Galena, KS on May 6, 1966, and they were married for 59 years. She survives of the home. He is also survived by a daughter Jennifer Stansberry (Shannon), a son David Holden (Andrea), and “adopted” son David Berry (Sabrina). He also had 5 grandchildren: Tyler Stansberry (Kaitlyn and step great-granddaughter Kaydence), Evan Holden, Kensington Holden, Eric Stansberry, and Emma Berry.

Ray was a very proud member of the Galena, KS Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 25 years. He was also the Treasurer of the department for 23 years, and rural captain for 17 years. He was a lifetime member of the Galena Mining and Historical Association. Ray moved to Joplin in 2002 where he resided until his death.








Arrangements are being made by Parker Mortuary. No services are planned, and a private burial will be at a later date. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.


Memorial contributions can be made to the Galena Education Foundation or the Galena Volunteer Fire Department.
