(From White Funeral Home)James “Jim” Curtis Staves II, 69, of Stark City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He was born August 26, 1956, to James and Velda (Woods) Staves.
Jim graduated from high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1974, and went on to earn his degree from Oklahoma State University. A proud veteran, he faithfully served his country in the United States Army, including active duty during Operation Desert Storm.
On September 17, 2010, Jim married Charlene Hutson, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Jim spent 22 years working for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he was dedicated to protecting natural resources and ensuring a healthier future.
Outside of his career, Jim had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, spending time in nature, and cheering on his beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys. He was also a proud member of VFW Post 4207 in Monett, Missouri, where he shared fellowship and camaraderie with fellow veterans. Jim also attended Berwick Church in Pierce City, Missouri.
Jim will be remembered for his devotion to family, his loyalty to friends, and his passion for the outdoors and his country.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Hutson Staves; one son, James Staves III of Green Bay, Wisconsin; two daughters, Cassie Martin of Parker, Colorado and Samantha Mangrum of Green Bay, Wisconsin; three step daughters Stephanie Hughes and her husband Bob of Stark City, Missouri, Cindy McCullah and her husband Matt of Cassville, Missouri, and Nycole Tiner and her husband Jerry of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; one step son, J.R. Beeson and his wife Lori or Monett, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Staves I and Velda Woods.
Graveside service at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of White Funeral Home and Crematory in Cassville, Missouri.
