Margene Clanton

Margene Marie Clanton, age 68, passed away on December 12, 2025, in Wentworth, MO. She was born in Monett, MO on Tuesday, April 16, 1957; son of Melbert and Mildred (Mattlage) Moennig. Margene attended Pierce City High School through her junior year when there were no classes left for her to take. She had taken all she could. The family paid tuition for her to attend Monett her last year where she graduated in 1975. Margene married Harold Clanton on Thursday, June 5, 1975, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, MO. 

She furthered her education at Southwest Missouri State University (MSU) where she obtained a master's degree in psychology. Margene was the secretary of Monett Medals, bookkeeper for H&M bus service, and volunteered many years at the MS Society. She had never left Missouri until she was married. She and Harold took two trips over 10,000 miles each, sleeping in a car or camper along the way. Margene liked taking pictures and enjoyed traveling. She found joy working in her flower beds, liked to read, rode horses, and enjoyed square dancing. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. Margene always wanted to help others and made an impact on many lives. 








Surviving are her husband, Harold Clanton of the home; a brother, Mark (Bev) Moennig of Kansas City, MO; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melbert and Mildred Moennig.

The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO, on December 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Funeral services will follow visitation on December 19, 2025, beginning at 12:00 PM with Pastor Kenneth Lampe officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Freistatt, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent, in Margene’s memory, to the MS Society. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
