Doug McCreedy

Douglas Charles "Doug" McCreedy, age 88, Duenweg, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his home.

Doug was born May 12, 1928 in Orlando, Florida, son of the late Lloyd McCreedy and Martha Robinson McCreedy. He attended high school, and then joined the United States Navy during World War II. He continued his military career with the Navy for 18 years before retiring. He then worked for several years in the food management business, running the V. A. cafeteria , and several schools for a number of years before retiring. He moved to the Joplin area in 1977 from Houston, Texas. Doug was a lifetime member of the DAV, and the VFW.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a son, Robert McCreedy, a daughter, Karen Schoonover, a sister, Jean Frances, a step-son, Robert "R.D." Simmons.

He is survived by his wife nearly 40 years, JoAnn Stafford McCreedy; daughters, Darlene Sowder (Rick) of Waco, Texas, Karil Shipley (John) of Sacramento, California; stepchildren, Terry Philliber (Beverly) of Noel, Missouri, Mike Dale (Lorri) of Duenweg, Vicki DeGraff of Chicago, Illinois, Diane Reynolds (Steve) of Joplin; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, James McCreedy (Cynthia) of Washington,

Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from Noon until 1:00 p.m.
