Zelda Fowler

Zelda Belle Fowler, age 78, Carl Junction, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

She was active in the Carl Junction Senior Center, having served on the board. Zelda was the go to person for taking photos at the center and was the driver for the Meals on Wheels program.

Survivors include her children, John, Carl, Scott and Wilma; her grandchildren, Rachael, Elizabeth and Catherine; and many friends.

Graveside services are planned for Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Junction Senior Citizens Center Meals on Wheels program, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Zelda, our mother and friend, we miss you.

Don Selby

Donald Ralph Selby, 84 of Joplin, Missouri, passed from this life on Thursday, April 27, 2017, following a long illness.

Don was born in Ashland, Missouri on October 17, 1932, to the late Ralph and Alma Selby. Don was the oldest of five sons; JC, Lewis, Wayne and Terry Selby. After a long and successful career, Don and his wife, Faye retired in Joplin, Missouri in 1983. Don was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was happiest when he was among family.

Don married his wife, Faye on June 4, 1955 upon returning from the Korean War in 1955.

He is survived by his wife, Faye of 61 years; sons, Gary and Ruth of Kimberling City, Missouri, Duane and Sue of Lee Summit, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Tiffany Selby, Tara and Andrew Mitchell, Tyler Selby, Logan and Katy Selby; 3 great grandchildren, Palmer Selby, Mickelson Selby and Hudson Mitchell.

Other than his parents, Don is also preceded in death by a brother, JC Selby.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with entombment to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. Family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m. up to service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association or Hospice Compassus, both in care of the mortuary.

Fred McReynolds

Fred LeRoy McReynolds, 87, Neosho, passed away April 28, 2017 at Medicalodge in Neosho. He was born July 25, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Roy and Stella (Dykes) McReynolds. 

 Fred was a lifelong Neosho area resident. In 1957 he began working as a jet engine mechanic. He worked for Rocketdyne, Continental Aviation, Teledyne and Sabreliner until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Neosho VFW Post #4142 where he was the oldest member. He loved to karaoke, dance and spend time with his friends at the VFW. 

Fred married Rosemary (Smith) on August 18, 1957 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1998. He is survived by his son, Brian McReynolds (Tina) of Neosho; step daughter, Conna Morris (Bobby) of Neosho; brother, Clarence McReynolds (Sandi) of Carl Junction, MO; daughter-in-law, Lori Thomas of Webb City; eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Fred is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard LeRoy McReynolds who passed on Feb. 28, 1996 and two grandchildren, Christina McReynolds and Joseph Morris. 

 Services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho. Due to flooding conditions at the cemetery, interment will be held at a later date at Carl Junction Cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the chapel. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Fred may be made to VFW #4142, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Avery Borok

Avery Hope Borok, precious daughter of Michael and Audrey (Martin) Borok, was born into eternity Thursday, April 27th, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.

Avery leaves behind her parents, as well as her proud big sister, Madelyn Grace Borok; loving grandparents Bryan and Lisa Martin and Ronald and Robin Borok; amazing aunts and uncles Jessica and Josh Hurley, Erin and Andrew Mcilvaine and Adam Borok; wonderful great grandparents Linda and Jim Stone, Dottie Pickering, Shirley Holly and Eva Zirlin.

She is rejoicing and getting loved on in heaven by several family members that preceded her in death: great grandparents Larry Martin, Dale Holly, Irving and Molly Zirlin, and Leonard and Lois Borok; as well as her aunt and uncle Brent Martin and Trisha Endicott.

The celebration of her memory will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, KS with Pastor Brad Wieneke officiating. Those closest to Avery will be attending a private burial at Osborn Cemetery in Joplin, MO later this week.

In lieu of flowers, Michael and Audrey are asking for monetary donations to be made in Avery’s name to either “Molly Bears” or “The Afghans for Angels Project” which help support families in their times of loss.

Herschel Houf

Mr. Herschel Glenn Houf, 88, of Anderson, Missouri departed this life Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home after an illness.

Herschel entered this life on August 18, 1928, in Steadman, MO to the late Herschel B. and Fern (Vincent) Houf. Herschel faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Janice Leach in Coossa County, Alabama and to this union four Children were born. Herschel worked most of his life as a tile setter but his true passion training Quarter Horses. He also enjoyed helping his church mission by walking a 10 mile stretch of road to pick up cans to sell for donations. He was known as the Calloway County Kid, who wandered the world serving his country and was known for doing the best job, loved his family and kept God in the center of his life.

Herschel is survived by his wife Janice of 50 years, two sons; Raymond Houf of Brandon, MS and Robert W. Houf of Louisville, KY, two daughters; Cynthis J. Skipworth of Terry, MS and Elah Renee Rickett of Anderson, MO, two sisters; Hazel Jean Stuhhlefield of Fulton, MO and Joyce Schutte of Columbia, MO, a brother; Jimmy W. Houf of Fulton, MO twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service for Mr. Herschel Houf will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri. Frances Quigg

Mrs. Frances J. Quigg, 87, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017, while at McDonald County Living Center, after a recent decline in health.

Frances entered this life on February 16, 1930, in rural Daviess County Kentucky, one of nine children born to the late Herman L. and Nanny Pearl (Taylor) Jolly. She was raised and attended school near Utica, Kentucky. On October 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Hugh Nelson Quigg, Jr. and to this union a daughter and two sons were born. Hugh passed away suddenly on September 15, 1960. In 1975, Frances moved to Anderson, Missouri and purchased the Dairy Queen. After selling her business, she became the Anderson City Clerk, retiring in 1997 after twenty four years of service. Frances was not one for sitting around. She went to work as a morning attendant at Stang’s Travel Center after their opening in September of 2005. She was a member of the Anderson United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hatters and was an ESA Diana Award recipient. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles and tending to the needs of her yard and home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a grandson, Stacey Pratt; and seven siblings, Grace, Pauline, Bertha, Bea, Ann, Lena and Herman.

Frances is survived by her three children, Janice Pratt and husband, Jr., of Anderson, Missouri, Stephen O. Quigg of Gardner, Kansas and Jimmie Quigg also of Anderson; two grandsons, Travis Pratt of Anderson and Marcus Pratt and wife Jessica, also of Anderson; five great grandchildren, Kynan, Ashton, Alyssa, Maggie and Lane; a sister, Wilma Higgs of Raytown, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Frances are 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Pam Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Kyle Smith, Tyler Sherwood, Bill Pratt, Travis Pratt, Marcus Pratt and Lane Pratt. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Dee Crowl

Eurell Delane “Dee” Crowl, age 80, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at The Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin following a decline in health.

Dee was born April 16, 1937 in Granby, Missouri, to the union of the late Albert and Georgia (Davis) Robinson. She was raised in the Joplin area and graduated in 1955 from Joplin Memorial High School. Dee worked outside the home for a short time at the old Helton’s Café in Joplin, but she is best remembered as a devoted homemaker as she raised her seven children. Dee greatly enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and many kinds of flowers. She was a member of the First Assembly of God of Carl Junction.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald Robinson.

Survivors include her children, Danny Howe (Angie) of Seneca, Missouri, Virginia Ryan of Joplin, Missouri, Tammy Nash (Mike) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Cavelle Hulstine (Joey) of Webb City, Missouri, Eddie Atwood of Joplin, Rachel Nash (Juan) of Temecula, California, and Paul Crowl (Mericka) of Carthage, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Robinson, of San Juan Capistrano, California.

Funeral services for Dee are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Pastor Bob Winnett officiating. Richard Melaven

Richard Melaven, age 83, passed away April 25, 2017 at NHC Healthcare in Joplin, Missouri, following a decline in health.

He was born August 26, 1933 in Elwood, Indiana to Gregory and Isabell (Gartley) Melaven.

Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. During his service he was a firearms instructor and a member of the First Rifle Team. After his service in the Navy he worked for American Hospital Supply, which lead him to becoming a supply designer for hospitals.

He is survived by daughters Debbie Melaven Brown, Mims, Florida, Linda Hounschell and husband John, Melbourne, Florida; sons Paul Melaven and wife Pam, Webb City, Missouri, Jim Melaven and wife Cheryl, Holt, Florida; granddaughters Erin Ortiz and husband Jon, Paige and Delaney Melaven; his soulmate Peggy Keatts, Neosho, Missouri.

Memorial graveside services with full military honors will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Webb City Cemetery.

Mary Von Paige

Mary Jeanette Von Paige, age 89, of Webb City, Mo., a longtime Joplin resident passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at her home. Jeanette was born August 2, 1927 in Joplin, and was a lifetime Joplin resident until moving to Webb City in 2011 when her home was lost in the tornado. Jeanette was employed in the 1940’s with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., and in the 1960’s with the Meeker Leather Co. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Joplin.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Von Paige, and a son, Robert Von Paige. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Ann Wray and husband Tom, three grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

Jeanette had a genuine strength of spirit and love of life, no matter the circumstances. Her grace, honesty, love of singing and music, and quickness to laugh brought joy to everyone who knew her.

Private interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.

Sidney Allen

Sidney E. Allen III, age 48, of Neosho, passed away suddenly on Tuesday April 25, 2017, in Tulsa, Ok. 

Sidney was born on March 4, 1969 in Joplin, Mo., the son of Sidney E. Allen, Jr. and Vicki (Adams) Allen of Neosho. He has been a lifelong area resident. Sidney drove a truck for Dyno-Nobel and Coke and currently for Nutra Blend of Neosho. Sid was a big kid at heart and enjoyed playing Pokemon and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his parents, two sons. Stephen Allen of Neosho, Mo., Geoffrie Allen and his wife Andrea and their son Liam Griner of Joplin, Mo. A sister, Regenia Felker and her husband James of Neosho, Mo.

The family will receive friends at a Memorial Visitation from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday afternoon, April 28, 2017 at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

Leland Easterday

Leland Dow Easterday, age 87, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Joplin,

Leland was born October 1, 1929 in Rocksprings, Wyoming, son of the late Everett E. Easterday and Ruby O. Carter Easterday. He graduated from Milan High School, then earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Kirksville State Teacher College, now Truman State, and earned his doctorate in education from the University of Arkansas. He was a teacher for over 40 years, retiring as a professor of elementary education at Missouri Southern State University. Leland also served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 where he was stationed in Wiesbaden,Germany. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, the National Education Association, Missouri National Education Association, National Council for the Social Studies, and Gideon's International. After his retirement he loved to travel with his wife of 54 years, Rosa Mae, and they traveled to all 50 states over the years.

In addition to his parents Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae Easterday who died on March 25, 2009, and a brother, Dean Easterday.

Survivors include his daughters, Debra K. Eckhart and husband David of Webb City, Brenda Lee Harter and husband Morris of Joplin; grandchildren, Emily Willett and husband Justin of Overland Park, Kansas, Ashley Alcorn and husband Matt of Webb City, Stacy Stockton and husband Aaron of Webb City, Stephanie Harter and fiance' Matt Campbell of Lacrosse, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Sydney Willett, Blair and Annabelle Alcorn, and Lydia and Luke Stockton; brothers, Glen Easterday and wife Phyllis of Des Moines, Iowa, Larry Easterday and wife Sharon of O'Fallon, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Colleen Easterday of Raytown, Missouri, Doris Veeder of Trenton, Missouri, and Etheleen Sparks of Chillicothe, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m..

Irma Frieze

Irma J. Freeze, 83, of Liberal, MO passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin. 

Irma was born January 5th, 1934 in rural Barton County near Liberal Mo to Elbert and Thelma (Hersh) Dickey. She was one of 12 children in the family. She Married Fred Freeze in Bentonville AR, April 13, 1953. They made their home in Liberal where Fred worked for the city of Liberal. Together they had 6 children. Fred passed away March 6, 1975. Irma worked for almost 30 years for the hospital in Fort Scott, KS, working her way up from housekeeping to surgical support aid before retirement. 

She is survived by her children; 3 sons, Randy Freeze and wife Teresa of Liberal, George Freeze and wife Janice of Ft Scott, KS, John Freeze and wife Lee Ann of Lehi, UT; and 3 daughters, Linda McKay and Husband Tom of Liberal, Lu Anne Crocker and husband Paul of Liberal and Carol Brizendine of Norborne, MO. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Bob, Ronald and Billy Dickey and a sister Pat Venable; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Max Hansen

Donald Max Hansen, 94, of Seneca, Missouri passed away at 7:56 AM on April 24th, 2017.

Max was born in Neosho, MO February 5th, 1923 to Carl Theodore and Hazel Atkins Hansen. At the age of two, the family moved to Chanute, KS where they resided during the Great Depression. After the death of his father in 1938, they returned to Seneca where he has resided since.Max served in the Navy from 1942-1945 (WWII) as a radio operator and then again from 1951-1952 (Korean War).Max worked as a very entertaining auctioneer for 55 years, 1949-2004, mostly in Southwest Missouri and Northeast Oklahoma.

He married Nadine Devine on October 10, 1981. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Doug Hansen and wife Melladean of Joplin, MO. Lori Onstot and husband Jim of Joplin, MO. One sister, Mary Paul Cheney of Daphne, AL and a brother Carl Hansen of Anacortes, WA Grandchildren Ty Sams and wife Heather, Rogers, AR, Melania Powell, Fayetteville, AR, Rorie Hansen and wife Shawna, Neosho, MO, Blake Onstot and wife Stephanie, Joplin, MO and Shaye Meissen and husband Craig, Woodland Park, CO. Also, seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Hansen. Max was a Christian and attended First Baptist Church, Wyandotte, OK. He also had several Mennonite friends and attended services occasionally with some of their congregations which he greatly enjoyed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Freeman Hospital and the Cancer Center for his excellent care. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Arisa Hassan for her never ending searching for ways to extend his life with dignity. She was successful in doing this and we are forever grateful for you and the extra time you gave us with him.
Services will be held Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 AM at the Seneca First Baptist Church under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca. No visitation is planned.

Irene Ritter

Irene J. Ritter, age 85, Joplin, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at Freeman Hospital after an illness.

Irene was born June 12, 1931 in Ironton, Ohio to the late Cecil Pippin and Jennie Crance Pippin and had lived in Joplin most of her life.

A homemaker, Irene was a longtime volunteer with the former St. John's Regional Medical Center. She was also a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. Irene enjoyed playing BINGO and was a regular at Bowl East and 4th Street Bowl. She was a faithful member of Christ Community United Methodist Church.

She married Willie Ritter on November 15, 1950 in Joplin. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1998.

Irene was also preceded in death by a an infant son, Billie Joe; one brother, Herb and two sisters, Mary and Betty.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Bishop and her husband, Randy, Joplin, Annie Henderson and her husband, Allen, Carl Junction, Tammy Ellis and her husband, David, Duenweg; one brother, Boyd Pippin and his wife, Sarah, Neosho; grandchildren, Donovan Bishop, Amy Wright, Timothy Bishop, Travis Ritter, Bryan Partian; and great grandchildren, Tyler, Taler, Adison, Patrick, Matti, Samantha, Val, Jonathon, Shawn, Colby, Makayla, Megan, Aubrey, Kamdan and Kitana.

Graveside services are planned for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Randy Bishop and Rev. Bob Dart will officiate. Pallbearers will be Donovan Bishop, Timothy Bishop, Travis Ritter, Bryan Partian, Jack Gougler and Allen Henderson. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Shrine Club Travel Fund, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Mike Striegel

C. Michael "Mike" Striegel, age 77, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 after an illness.

Mike was born August 12, 1939 in Joplin, son of the late Clarence Joseph Striegel and Ruth George Striegel. He served in the United States Army from 1958 through 1961. He returned to Joplin where he met Carol Ann Martin, and they were married in 1964.

Mike started a professional mowing service in 1962, and founded Mike's Mower Repair on S. Hwy 43 in 1965.

He was very good with his hands, and could repair just about anything. His hobbies over the years included woodworking, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, billiards, and riding his jet skis.

Mike was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed.

He leaves behind his wife, Carol; son, Brian Michael Striegel; grandchildren, Shanna Leann Striegel and Shane Michael Striegel; a sister, Lucille Barnes.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later time.

Connie Allgood

Connie Sue Allgood, age 69, of Joplin, went to be with her Lord on Monday April 24, 2017, at Freeman Hospital West, following an illness.

Connie was born on October 5, 1947 in Wheaton, Mo., the daughter of the late Dolph Tracy and Virginia (Erisman) Tracy. She has been a lifelong area resident. She married John J. Allgood on August 27, 1965. Together they raised two children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She took great joy in baseball games, shopping, rodeos, special Olympics, and going places. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-two years, John J. Allgood; her children, Larry Allgood and wife Michelle, Joplin; Vicki Ray, Neosho, Mo.; her grandchildren, Tyler, Azalea, Ashley, and Tanner; five brother, Randy Tracy and wife Kim, Rick Tracy and wife, Lavonne, John Tracy and wife Clevia, Ron Tracy and wife Micky, and Richard Tracy and wife Shelly; two sisters, Cathy Barnett and husband David, and Cheri McPherson, special nieces, Michelle and Emily; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Rick Tracy will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Brandon Tracy, Greg McPherson, Tyler Allgood, Rod Neece, Jerrod Tracy, Larry Allgood, Steve Allgood, and Randy Allgood. 

Memorial contributions may be given to the Freeman Dialysis Center in care of the mortuary.

Sarah Friend

Sarah Jean Friend, age 80, of Duenweg, Mo., passed away at 11:52 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the home of her Granddaughter in West Fork, Ark. Sarah was born April 21, 1937 in Commerce, Ok. and had lived in Duenweg 20 years before moving to her Granddaughter’s home in Ark. a year ago. Sarah graduated from MSSU with a degree in Accounting. She worked as a Certified Public Accountant for several local companies.

Sarah was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1959 and was a member of the Joplin East Congregation.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Stevens and wife Donna, and Christopher Friend, all of Joplin, and Joel Friend and wife Rebecca, Beaumont, Texas, two daughters, Amy Long and husband Rick, Bella Vista, Ark., and Michelle Marvin, Chariton, Iowa, 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren on the way.

Sarah’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, East Congregation, 2500 Alpaca Road in Joplin, with Elder Max Mourglia officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.

Merle Williams

Merle Lee Williams, age 78, Green Cove Springs, Florida, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Orange Park Medical Center in Florida.

Merle was born March 2, 1939 in Joplin, son of the late Archie and Gladys (Cape) Williams. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1957. He enjoyed dirt track racing in his younger days, and enjoyed working on the cars with his brothers. He continued these driving traits into his later years. He worked for years in the grocery store business, retiring from Consumers Grocery. He loved serving the Lord, and was a former song leader at area churches. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He moved to Green Cove Springs in 2014 after being a lifelong resident of this area.

He was a beloved husband, father, faithful Christian, and family man. He never met a stranger, and was willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed gardening, and planting flowers for his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking care of animals, especially his dog, Teddy.

In addition to his parents, Merle was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Williams, and seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Williams of Green Cove Springs whom he married April 13, 1957; children, Connie Carpenter of Seneca, Missouri, Robin Clemons of Middleburg, Florida, Merle Williams, Jr. of Green Cove Springs; brother, Donald Williams of Carl Junction, Missouri; cousin, Everette Williams of Independence, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Stephen Carpenter, Jeffrey Carpenter, Carrie Carpenter, Ryan Clemons, Merle Williams, Brandon Williams, and Joshua Williams; 9 great-grandchildren, Stephen, Sasha, Emily, Dakota, Dylan, Tiffany, Trenton, Connor, and Abigail; one great-great-grandchild, Freeman; and numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Leta Ware

Leta Ware, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at her home. Leta was born January 15, 1928 in Lawton County, Kansas to Charles Bishop and Maude “Brown” Bishop. She was a Carthage High School graduate and lifetime resident of Carthage. She worked at Big Smith 

Manufacturing and Fair Acres Nursing Home and was a devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Carthage.

Leta was united in marriage to Morris Ware on December 20, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas; he preceded her in death on January 22, 1972.

Leta is survived by one daughter Evelyn Ware of the home, one son Charles Ware of Lakeland, Florida, one brother Orval Bishop and wife Rhudell of Carthage, four grandchildren: Tina Walker, Carrie Hobbs, Amy Jones and David Jones, and nine great grandchildren: Tori Walker, Ardrea Walker, Brian Walker, Elissa Smith,Mariah Manka, Codie Palmer, Katelyn Palmer, Gage Jones, and Laura Jones, and three great-great grandchildren: Ayden Walker, Brooklyn Yardley, and Bentley Walker.

Leta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter Joyce Maggard, one brother Chalmer Bishop and one sister Ruth Prime.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Park Cemetery.

Billy Reeves

Billy Don Reeves, I, 81, of Noel, Missouri departed this life on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born on August 13, 1935 in Grove, Oklahoma to the late Emmett and Opal (Goad) Reeves. Billy proudly served our country in the United States Army. On August 9, 1956 in Grove,, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Goldie Teague and together they shared fifty years, before her passing in 2007. He was a local truck driver for Wal-Mart. Billy enjoyed collecting knifes, elephants and model cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Billy Don Reeves, II; two sisters, Ruby Lewis and Norma Bauer.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Treasia Rock and husband, Matthew, of Noel, Missouri; two sons, Kenneth Reeves and wife, Sabrina, of Anderson, Missouri, Talfey Reeves and wife, Margie of Noel, Missouri; a brother, Elvin Bauer of Milo, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss Billy.

Lucille Ridgway

Mrs. Lucille E. Ridgway, 92, of Seneca, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday evening, April 22, 2017, at the Seneca House Care Center, after months of declining health.

Lucille entered this life on March 3, 1925, in Picher, Oklahoma, one of five children born to the late Grover and Lillie Ann (Stout) Mersman. She was raised and attended school in Tiff City, Missouri. On August 17, 1951, in Iola, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Marshall Ridgway and together they have shared the last sixty-five years. They resided in Kansas and California before purchasing a farm near Seneca, Missouri in 1957. Lucille was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed fishing and fellowship with her church family. She was a longtime member of Victory Road Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four children, Judith Ann Cummings, Leona Hurley, Larry Michael and Diana Rudd; a granddaughter, Anna Brown; and four siblings, Ed and Bob Mersman, Gertrude Hodson and Irene Anderton.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Marshall Ridgway of the home; one son, Bill Michael and wife, Sue, of Seneca, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; several great and great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ridgway are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Victory Road Church with Pastors Roland Keith and Darren Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Grove Cemetery near Seneca, Missouri. Mary Schiernbeck

Mary Jean Schiernbeck, age 88, of Lamar, passed away Monday evening, April 17, 2017, at Truman Healthcare, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary was born June 18, 1928 in Odebolt, Iowa, one of the thirteen children of Bernard and Irma Jean (Dinges) Bengford. On October 25, 1946, at Papillion, Nebraska, she married Hugo Schiernbeck and they had celebrated nearly 68 years together before his passing on August 24, 2014. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Norbert, Bernard, Wilbert, Ken, Tom, John, and Ted Bengford; three sisters, Loretta Bengford, Alice Haffner, and Madeline McTasney; and two grandchildren, Dakota Schiernbeck and Travis Schiernbeck.

Hugo and Mary were an inspirational team as they farmed and raised their four children. In addition to being a devoted farmwife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Mary had worked as a retail clerk in various stores in Lamar for many years. She served her community as a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer and was a faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Milo (Wanda) Schiernbeck of Schleswig, Iowa and Merlin (Brenda) Schiernbeck of Osceola, Wisconsin; two daughters, Marlene (Tom) Shaw of Liberal, Missouri and Marlys (Steve) Buckner of Lamar; a brother, Norm Bengford of San Jose, California; a sister, Margaret Jennett of Muscatine, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, April 21st at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamar. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Alice Hosfield

Mrs. Alice E. Hosfield, age 81, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at her home surrounded by family.

Alice was born in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, on March 20, 1936 to the late Charles and Marguerite (Osborne) Bauman. She moved to Joplin in 1946 and attended St. Peter’s High School, graduating in 1954. She furthered her education at Joplin Junior College and went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Education from Pittsburg State University, graduating in 1958. In August 1958, Alice was united in marriage with Thomas C. Hosfield and together they shared forty-nine years of marriage until his passing on December 26, 2007. Alice had a love of traveling and she resided in several states throughout her lifetime, including New York, New Jersey, Florida and Connecticut. She taught school for a number of years and later made her career at home as a homemaker caring for her family.

Alice had a very giving heart and she was largely involved in volunteer work, including Meals on Wheels, helping children of migrant farmworkers, Crosslines Ministries and visiting the homebound. She loved working in her yard, gardening and caring for her family. She looked forward to her annual journey to Florida with her sisters each year. Alice was a member of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. She was also a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City and she had a great love for her church family. Her smiling face will be missed at the dessert table.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; infant son, Thomas Patrick; a brother, Ernest Bauman; and three sisters, Pearl Johnson, Faye Royer and Genevieve Gilbreth.

Survivors include her three children, Kathy Hosfield of Ashburn, Virginia, Mary Poage of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Tim Hosfield of New Castle, Colorado; five grandchildren, Meridith McMillan of Louisville, Kentucky, Patrick Poage and wife, Amy, of San Jose, California, Joanna Poage of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Molly and Katie Poage of Carl Junction; two sisters, Pat Arink of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jo Ann Westbrook of Fargo, North Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Toft and husband, Bob, of Duquesne, Missouri, and Betty Cope of Scottsdale, Arizona; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass for Alice was held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Webb City, with Father Rahab Isidor officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Neosho. John Adams

John Robert Adams, age 64, Joplin, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 in Joplin.

John was born December 20, 1952 in New York and was the son of the late John Adams and Audrey C. McManners Adams.

He was a contractor and worked in construction most of his adult life. John was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Mary Karen Carter, Joplin; a son, Johnny Adams and three brothers, Gary Miranda and wife, Linda, Grants Pass, Oregon, Martin Miranda, Fairbanks, Alaska and William Miranda and wife, Patricia, Eagle River, Alaska.

A memorial visitation is planned for Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. A private interment will take place in August at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Lloyd Gillman

Lloyd George Gillman, of Webb City, went home to his Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in Joplin, MO. He was 45 years old.

Lloyd was born in Independence, KS on March 2, 1972 to Butch and Sandy Gillman. He grew up and attended school from Kindergarten through High School in Coffeyville, KS. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1990. He earned a degree from Coffeyville Community College.

In 1993, Lloyd married the love of his life, Alexa (Fox) Gillman. They had 2 beautiful children, Darby Claire and Carter Mac. They were the light of his life. Above all, Lloyd was a Christ follower. Because he loved Jesus, he loved people. He shared his love for Jesus with as many people as he could. He worked for Roper Honda for nearly 14 years. It was obvious to all that he enjoyed what he did at Roper. He also enjoyed fishing and playing basketball with Carter, and listening to music and singing with Darby. Quality time with Alexa was one of his favorite things. Lloyd was a gifted singer and shared his talent with the community by leading worship for several years. He also gave many years of his life to youth ministry.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Alexa, his children, Darby and Carter, all of the home. Other survivors include his sister Melissa Dimick and family, his parents, Butch and Sandy, his brother-in-law Scott Fox and family, his father and mother-in-law, Lex and Alishia Fox, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many friends to count.

A celebration of life service will be held at Christ's Church of Oronogo on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 6:00 PM with Adam Scutti officiating.

Eva Babcock

Eva Mae Babcock, 83 of Carthage, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at her home. She was born July 8, 1933 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Perry and Ruby (Decker) Button. She was a retired salesperson. 

Eva was a member of the Center Point Christian Church. Eva was united in marriage to James F. “Jim” Babcock on July 3, 1953. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2017. Survivors include one son, Jim C. (Regina) Babcock of Joplin, MO.. Two daughters, Teresa (A.D.) Henry and Mary Riley both of Carthage, MO.. Two brothers, John Button and David Button. Four sisters, Nancy Johnson, Diane Haynes, Patsy Stroud, and Betty Maddox. Grandchildren, Megan Henry, Joel Babcock, and Morgan Gilkerson. Great-grandchildren, Kash Calvin, Kendall Babcock, and Emerlynn Babcock. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim Babcock, a son in law, Steve Riley and a grandson, Drew Babcock. 

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Center Point Christian Church. The body has been taken for cremation.

Stephen Harris

Stephen Douglas Harris, age 64, Galena, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Joplin Gardens of Joplin.

Stephen was born August 20, 1952 in Joplin, son of the late Troy Harris and Lorene Henson Harris. He attended Joplin Schools, and worked as an independent contractor, mainly as a carpenter and mechanic. He married Pam Leman in1970, and to this union were born four children, he then married Athena Hancock who preceded him in death on August 19, 2012.

In addition to his parents, and his second wife, Athena, he was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Douglas Harris, and two brothers, Michael Harris and Dennis Harris.

Survivors include his children, Melissa Diane Harris, Cory Wayne Harris, and Brian Harris all of Joplin, and Shawna Harris Moore of Oklahoma; sister, Terry Turner and husband Rick of Joplin; and his uncle, Milo Harris of Joplin; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Inurnment of his ashes will be with his parents in Forest Park Cemetery at a later date.

Jerry Huellinghoff

Jerome E. "Jerry" Huellinghoff, age 75, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Mercy Hospital.

Jerry was born October 30, 1941 in Villa Ridge, Missouri, son of the late John Huellinghoff and Rose Kensell Huellinghoff. He grew up in Villa Ridge, and began his career as a truck driver at the age of 16. He and his brother purchased a pair of dump trucks and began Huellinghoff Brothers Hauling, which they did for several years. In the early 1970's Jerry began Huellinghoff Trucking, Inc. which he operated until his retirement in 2012. He was of the Catholic faith, and served in the National Guard for six years.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by son, Glen Keller, a grandson, Jimmy, and his brothers, Eddie and Tony.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gladys L. Huellinghoff; children, Dora Jeffers and husband Jerry of Carl Junction, Jean Simon and husband Jerry of Duenweg, Flora Jane Wilcox of Tyner, North Carolina, Patricia Farley and husband Roy of Joplin, Gail Vaughan and husband Larry of Joplin, Leroy Dickey and wife Donna of Neosho, Gary Keller of Joplin, Joetta Miller of Owensville, Missouri, and Ann Casey and husband Robert of Owensville; grandchildren, Kim, Doug, Andy, Rene', Chris, Matt, Jason, Zach, Heather, Zac, and Mistie; several great-grandchildren; brother, Freddie; sisters, Annie, Jeannie, Rita, Bernice, and Mary; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Chris Vaughan (grandson) officiating.

Goldie Conner

Goldie Conner, 85, Neosho, passed away April 21, 2017 at Freeman West in Joplin following a short illness. She was born February 9, 1932 in Noel, Missouri, the daughter of Eugene ‘Bud’ and Mettie Jane (Barker) Nims. 

 Goldie was a lifelong Neosho area resident. She and her husband, Jim owned and operated Conner Excavating, established in 1969. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, reading, music and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

 Goldie married James W. ‘Jim’ Conner on May 27, 1949 in Neosho and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1999. She is survived by five children, Darlene Bacon (Mike), Janey Harper (Steve), Jim Conner (Ruth), Nancy Wood, all of Neosho and Kathi Zornes (Terrie) of Cassville; three brothers, Kenneth Nims, Gary Nims and Elmer Nims, all of Neosho; three sisters, Sue Brodie, Ruth Cummings, both of Neosho and Martha Spencer of Joplin; ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Goldie is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers. 

 Services will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. Interment will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Goldie’s grandsons, Michael Bacon, Chris Harper, Matt Rice, Stephen Harper, Justin Conner and Dalton Stipp. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Harlan Snow

Harlan Boyd Snow, 88, Joplin, a retired veteran Missouri Journalist, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at
Freeman Hospital, following an illness.

Mr. Snow, a lifelong Missourian, was born Aug. 13, 1928 in western Lawrence County near
Sarcoxie, to Hazel A. Snow and Pauline E. (Woods) Snow, both descendants of pioneer settlers
of the southwest corner of the county in the 1840s – 1850s.

A graduate of Sarcoxie High School and the class of 1951 of what is now Missouri State University, he spent his 44-year work career entirely in Missouri, beginning with a two-year hitch as history and speech teacher at Eldon High School.

Next, following one year as an announcer at KRMS at Osage Beach, he began a career as a newsman at KFSB in Joplin. One-year stints at KRMS and KBTN at Neosho then preceded 10.5 years as news director at KSIS, Sedalia.

He joined The Joplin Globe as a reporter on Feb. 1, 1968 and retired 27 years later. His tenure at
The Globe involved reporting on a wide variety of beats, including politics, business, city government, education and highways.

Upon retirement, he served one elected term as the first chairman of the Jasper County Emergency
Services board which oversaw the startup of the county’s first enhanced 9-1-1 emergency dispatch system. 

While in Sedalia he served as co-chairman of the town’s first Scott Joplin ragtime concert, a
forerunner of today’s annual festival honoring the pioneer pianist and composer. In 2007,
Mr. Snow received an award from the festival sponsors for his early efforts.

An amateur historian, he wrote a history of the first 100 years of the Sedalia Fire Department published in 1968 after his move to Joplin. He served as a member and report drafter of a citizens committee, appointed by the City Council, to conduct a management audit of the Joplin Fire Department in 1979. In addition to being a fire buff, he was a collector of jazz records, most all of which were lost in Joplin’s May 22, 2011 tornado.

He was a past member of the Lions Club at Eldon, and at Osage Beach; the Sedalia Jaycees, and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. He was an Eagle Scout in his youth. He was baptized in the Methodist Church and attended Fellowship Baptist Church, Joplin.

He married Carolyn Ann Breeden, June 15, 1969 in Joplin. Surviving are his wife; a son, Brice Snow, of the home; and a daughter, Beth Snow, of Joplin.

Funeral services for Harlan Snow will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children, in care of the mortuary.

Arthur Fuller

Arthur M. Fuller, 91, Carthage, passed away Wednesday morning, April 19, 2017 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon. Arthur Mason Fuller was born May 29, 1925 in Hammond, IN to Arthur M. Fuller and Marie Martha (Krone) Fuller. Arthur served in the Marine Corp during WWII. He married Dorothy Slowinski on August 23, 1947 in Chicago, IL; she preceded him in death on March 7, 2001. He worked as a distributor for Little Debbie. Arthur was a Catholic by faith.

Survivors include two daughters Barbara Radebaugh (husband Jeff), Barrington, IL, and Diane Bougher (husband Roger), Carthage, MO; five grandchildren, John Lutz (wife Melissa), Scott Fournier (wife Kim), Andrew Bougher (Heather), Elizabeth Bougher, and Jenifer Martinsen (Tim); and six great grandchildren, Lillian Fournier, Royal Fournier, Karliah Bougher, Chelsea Martinsen, Mackenzie Martinsen, and David Wiesmore.

Eleanor Souders

Eleanor G. Souders, 90, Reno, Nevada, formerly of Anderson, MO, died peacefully in her sleep on April 12, 2017. 

 Eleanor was born Aug. 4, 1926 in Joplin, the daughter of Glenn and Sylvia (Wallace) Westfall. She attended schools in Emporia, Kansas and was a homemaker. While living in Anderson, she was involved with the Senior Citizens Groups in Lanagan and Pineville, helping with the flowers and taking care of the building. She moved to Reno in 2005 from Anderson. 

 Eleanor and Walter J. Souders, Jr. were married on Nov. 25, 1942 in Neosho and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2002. She is survived by three children, Carl Souders of Jasper, MO; Sharon L. Stoppleman of Arizona and Janice F. Maddux of Reno, NV and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two daughters, Karen and Joyce. 

 Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Friday from 9 am until 5 pm and Saturday from 9 am until 1 pm.

Brian Bennett

Brian K. Bennett, 74, Carthage, MO, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017. Brian Keith Bennett was born October 4, 1942 in Liverpool, England. He earned his Associate Degree from Kansas City Community College in 1960. He served in the United States Air Force. Brian married Elsie Marie Young on September 26, 1999 in Fairbanks, AL. He worked as an Aerospace Technician.

Survivors include; his wife, Elsie Marie Bennett, Carthage, two daughters; Andrea Perry, Fairbanks, AL, Wendy Calvey, Dover, TN, two sons; Bruce Bennett, Fairbanks, AL, Jon Sanchez, Fairbanks,
AL, one brother, one sister, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Givens

Richard L. Givens, 78, Carthage, MO, passed away Monday morning, April 17, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO. Richard Lee Givens was born September 11, 1938 in Graybull, WY to Roy David Givens and Josephine (Harris) Givens. Richard was a graduate of Granby High School, Class of 1956. He continued his education at Southwest Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. Richard served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1956-1960. He worked in Law Enforcement before retiring.

Survivors include; one daughter, Susan Larchart, two sons; Kevin Givens and Jeffrey Givens, one sister; Betty Nagel, one brother; David Givens, and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Jack Rhoads

Dr. Jack Vincent Rhoads succumbed to pancreatic cancer on April 18, 2017 at the age of 58 years old.

Jack was a dedicated and excellent Internist. He served his community in his private practice, Midwest Internal Medicine, as a hospitalist for St. John’s Hospital, and as the Director of Medical Staff at Landmark Hospital. He was a loyal friend and loving father and husband, who always put others’ needs before his own. Jack will be remembered for his selflessness, unique sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and generosity toward everyone around him.

He is survived by his father, Tom, sister Diane; brothers, Mike, Mark, and Jim; wife, Mary K; sons and their wives, Tom, Mary, William, and Kathleen.

Jack is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Rhoads.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Joplin, in care of the mortuary.

Bud Finn

Bruce ‘Bud’ Norman Finn was born November 27, 1936 in Madison, WI and entered into rest on April 18, 2017 in Stella, MO at the age of 80, following an extended illness. 

 Bud served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He moved to the area in 1994 from WI and was a retired police officer and then had a cattle farm. He was a member of Neosho Masonic Lodge; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Club; the Neosho Shrine Club and the Hillbillies. He served as hospital chairman of the Shriner’s Crippled Hospital for seventeen and a half year’s. 

 Bud is survived by his wife, Elaine Finn. Bud has been taken for cremation and private family services will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Bud may be made to Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Relief Fund, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.

Peggy Brouillette

Florence “Peggy” Brouillette, age 94, of Joplin, passed away on Monday April 17, 2017 at her home, following an illness.

Peggy was born September 15, 1922 in a sod house near Lamar, Colorado, a daughter of John O. and Lydia (McCormick) Runyan. She graduated from Russell High School in Russell, Kansas. Peggy married Carl Edward Brouillette on May 15, 1943 in Hutchison, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2001.

Peggy and Carl made their home near Stark City, Kansas from 1948 until 1955 and later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Peggy worked as a secretary at SW Grease Oil Company, Rich Sign Company, and Cessna Aircraft. Peggy and Carl owned and operated a motel in Picayne, Mississippi before retiring to Farlington in 1983. In 2003, Peggy moved to Joplin, Missouri to be near her sister. Peggy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farlington, the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Steven Bennefeld Post No. 7479, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Girard, Kansas.

Peggy enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, and an occasional trip to the casinos.
Survivors are a son, John Brouillette, and his wife, Carla, of Wichita, Ks.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Brouillette, of Wichita, Ks.; six grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bertha Cathern Welch, of Joplin. Peggy was preceded in death by a son, Rob, in 2015; a sister, Irene Runyan, and her brothers, Frank Runyan, Richard Runyan, and John Runyan.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Farlington Cemetery, Farlington, Kansas. Reverend Rex Wakefield will officiate. Friends may call during regular visiting hours.

Carl Swartz

Sgt. Carl H. Swartz, Sr. 82, of Gardner, KS, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at his home. He was born on July 8, 1934, to Charles and Nora Swartz. He attended Eugene Fields School and later moved to Cherokee, KS, where he graduated in 1952. He then joined the US Air Force where he was promoted to Staff Sgt. And was a Firearms Instructor, where he spent the next 7 years. He married Rubie Briggs in Oklahoma City, OK, in 1958. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2011.

After returning to the Pittsburg area, he owned and operated the Swartz Hamburger Heaven, and with his brothers and father, operated the Swartz County Ambulance, the Service Cab Company, and The Little Grill Café. He became involved with Babe Ruth Baseball and managed several teams in Pittsburg. After moving to Olathe, KS, in 1977, he was employed at the KUMC Police Department, where he maintained the position of Sgt. and Firearms Instructor, where he received a Meritorious Award for and Exceptional Act Unaware of Great Personal Danger in 1985, presented by the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police. At that time he stayed involved in Babe Ruth Youth Baseball. He spent a total of 35 years in the Babe Ruth Organization. He finished his career as the District Commissioner of the District #7. After retirement from KUMC in 1991, he joined the Volunteer Services at KUMC, and was awarded for 4,000 hours of Volunteer Services. He was a member of the A.F. and A.M. Masonic Lodge in Girard, KS, and served as the Master of the Lodge in 1976, and the Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, Electra Chapter of Girard, KS, in 1976 and also served as a Rainbow Dad. He was also a member of the Mirza Shrine.

He is survived by his children, Sherry Porter of Branson, MO, Curtis Swartz and his wife, Julie of Gardner, KS, Carla Swartz of Gardner, KS, Carolyn Mynatt and her husband, Ron of Joplin, MO, and Carl "Chip" Swartz, Jr. and his wife Kristin of Gardner, KS; 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Swartz, and a daughter, Mary Kalsowski Swartz.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Steve Dighton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the start of the service on Friday and from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. after the service at the Masonic Temple 3105 N. Gaylon Rindt

Gaylon LeRoy Rindt was born January 13, 1938 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of George Carl and Ola Mae (Eacret) Rindt. He entered into rest on April 18, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, at the age of 79. 

 Gaylon graduated from Galena High School, class of 1955. He married Laura Kimbrough August 18, 1957, she preceded him in death November 2, 2001. The following year, he married Eula Mae Kimbrough on October 26, 2002 and she survives. During his career, he had worked for Atlantic and Pacific (A and P) Tea Company for 23 years as produce manager. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Diamond. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Karen Burton; Susan Clark and husband, Don, Randy Kimbrough and wife, Melody and James Kimbrough and wife, Tammy; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Laura, his parents, four brothers and two sisters. 

 Services for Gaylon will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Diamond, Pastor Ron Crow will officiate. Interment will follow in the Diamond Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Randy Kimbrough, James Kimbrough, Don Clark, Jason Clark, Bill Neely, David Lee, Rob Burton and Jacob Kimbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer White, Noel Whitson, Jim Askins, Jerry Shipman, Ron Badley and Dewayne Scowden.

Ethel Caldemeyer

Ethel Vera (Basz) Caldemeyer, 1958 E. Smith, Springfield, Missouri, passed away April 17 at the age of 97.

She was born in East Chicago, Indiana on September 20, 1919 to the late Michael and Vera G. (Demo) Basz. She was a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, Hammond, Indiana. Ethel married Robert O. Caldemeyer in 1940 in Springfield, Missouri. She lived in Joplin from 1955 through 1999 when she moved to Springfield. She worked as an aircraft wiring assembler for Pacific Mercury and Fairchild, Inc. from 1956-1966. In 1967 she started working as a secretary at Missouri Southern State College until she retired in 1981.

Ethel liked to travel, read, play the piano and have fun with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Caldemeyer in 1984 and her loving companion of over 23 years-Earl Downing in 2013. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Palmer, Patagonia, Arizona and Linda Ramsey Gibson and her husband Clyde Gibson, Springfield, Missouri.

Other survivors include four grandchildren, Linda Palmer of Aurora, Colorado, Max Gries (husband Tyler Van Vierzen) Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gabriel Ramsey (wife Melanie Westfield) San Francisco, California and Dana Thomas (husband Justin) and great grandsons Eli and Brighton Thomas, Springfield, Missouri. She had numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family and many friends.

Services are planned for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff D. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the mortuary.

Larry Moser

Larry Moser passed away early Friday, April 14, Good Friday, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin after several months of ill health.

Born on October 20, 1942 in Neosho, he was the son of the late George and June (Ely) Moser and was raised in the Saginaw and Redings Mill area.

Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, who were in the same branch of service. He received many commendation medals, serving in Saudi Arabia and was assigned to Air Force One in Washington, D.C. during the Nixon/Johnson era.

Larry married Carolyn Hartin on November 28, 1963. She survives at the home. They spent over 53 years together living in the 4-State area. They enjoyed going to rodeos, R'Ving and spent a lot of time in Texas attending Western Swing festivals and traditional country music shows.

He was involved in the trucking business most of his life as his passion was trucks since childhood. He had many friends, loved to visit and never met a stranger. Other survivors are his sister, Nelda Brown (Harry) and several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, no services are planned.

Bill Pierce

William R. “Bill” Pierce, 47 of Joplin passed away on Resurrection Sunday April, 16 2017. Bill was born in Joliet, IL June 2, 1969. He lived in the Carthage and Joplin area most of his life. Bill graduated Carthage High School class of 1987. He was a machine operator for Schreiber foods for 30 years and was a member of Life Church of Carthage.

Bill was united in marriage to Lisa Pyle on July 31, 2015 in Carthage, she survives.

Bill is survived by his dad Bob Pierce and step-mother Mary Pierce of Carthage, one sister Gayle Parks of Carthage, MO, one daughter Lynzy Pyle of Springfield, MO and one son Aaron Pierce of Carthage, one step-son Kory Pyle of Carthage, one granddaughter Myla Pyle and expecting Baby Bean, three nieces Sydney, Erin and Lindsey and one nephew Jimmy. One step sister Debbie Beaver and husband John of Tulsa, OK Bill is preceded in death by his mom Linda “Hooker” Pierce.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday April 21, 2017 at Life Church of Carthage, MO. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday April 20, 2017 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Diane Carpenter

Margaret “Diane” Carpenter passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Diane was born August 17, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to Wallace Carpenter and Delila “Lasiter” Carpenter.

Diane was raised in Carthage, graduated from Carthage High School Class of 1978, worked at Big Smith Manufacturing and Justin Boots prior to moving to Oklahoma.

Diane is survived by three sisters: Sherry Carpenter and Cindy Carpenter, both of Carthage, and Holly Carpenter of Mt. Home, Idaho. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Jerry and Billy Carpenter.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Ulmer Funeral Home.

George Erwin

George Dale Erwin, 78, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin. George was born May 13, 1938 in Carthage to Thomas Loren Erwin and Melba Pearl “Harned” Erwin. He was a lifetime resident of Carthage, worked at Safeway and Consumers, along with some work in pest control. George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the local Masonic Lodge.

George is survived by two sons: George Erwin, Jr. of Carthage and Doug Erwin of California, three brothers: Charles Erwin, Bob Erwin and Bill Erwin, two grandsons: Zachary Lauren Cameron Johnson and Tyler Lane Erwin, and one granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Erwin.
George is preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Richard Erwin, and one sister, Betty Darlene Erwin.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lonnie Wilson

Lonnie Gene Wilson, age 74, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following a long illness.

Lonnie was born November 4, 1942, in Sheldon, Missouri, to William and Lillie (Dockery) Wilson. He attended Valley Rural School, graduated from Lamar High School in 1961, and served in the Army National Guard until honorably discharged in 1966. On May 26, 1963, Lonnie married Helen Marie Beavers and they made their home and raised their family in Lamar.

In addition to his 30-year career laying carpet, Lonnie had worked at Thorco for 13 years. After retiring, he had more time to enjoy with his family and his favorite pastimes. He was a naturally gifted musician and self-taught guitarist, playing with his family and others occasionally at dances. An avid outdoorsman, Lonnie loved hunting, fishing, and bird-watching. Each spring was filled with great anticipation for the return of “his” bluebirds to raise their babies in the houses he always had ready for them. Lonnie and Helen were known and appreciated for the grapes and large gardens they grew and shared. Always a Lamar Tiger fan, Lonnie attended every game as long as his health permitted and listened on the radio when he couldn’t be at the stadium.

Survivors include Helen, of the home; his children, Lonna (Jimmy) Jackson, Lamar; Dawna (Troy) Holzbach, Lamar, Melinda Paynter, Carthage, and Todd Wilson, Lamar; grandchildren, Jeremy VanGilder, Dustin Jackson, Taylor Jackson, Jakob Holzbach, Keaton Holzbach, Alexis Paynter, Hayden Paynter, Macy Wilson and Trenton Wilson; great-grandchildren, Lillian and Natalie VanGilder; sisters, Maxine (Leo) Cox, Lamar, and Darlene Logan, Miller, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Gerald as well as an infant sister and brother, an infant son, Kevin Gene; two grandsons, Ryan VanGilder and Bradley VanGilder.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, northeast of Milford, Missouri.

Ruth Farrell

C. Ruth Farrell, 63, Joplin, MO passed into eternal rest at 7:30pm, April, 14, 2017 at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, KS after a long illness.

Cleta Ruth Charlton was born February 15, 1954 in Stella, MO the daughter of Carl and Jewell (Hoover) Charlton. She was a lifelong area resident. Ruth loved gardening, outdoors, antiques and junking. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and ice cream from Andy’s Custard. 

Ruth married Ted Farrell August 18, 1995 in Eureka Springs, AR and he survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Cassie Meier, Monett, MO; one son Jeremy Lankford and wife Valerie, Neosho, MO; 4 siblings; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by one son, Burton Lankford; one grandson Dalton Lankford, 2 siblings and her parents.

The body has been take for cremation under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca. A Memorial Service for Ruth will be held at 6:00 pm, April 20, 2017 at the Swars Prairie Baptist Church south of Seneca, with Harold Reaves officiating.

Alma Cooper

Alma Jo Cooper, 80, of Monett went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Saturday April 15, 2016 while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born in Springfield, Missouri on July 10, 1936; the daughter of the late Loyd Matthew and Mary Verle (Fleetwood) Anderson. She was united in marriage on June 10, 1955 to Burton Kent Cooper; he preceded her in death on December 31, 2001.

She was retired from First State Bank in Monett, Missouri and Juvenile Shoe in Aurora, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett as well as the Joyous Sunday School Class at the Church.

Alma is survived by one daughter: Mary Walker (Mitchell) of Ozark, Missouri; two grandchildren: Matthew Cooper and Austin Cooper (Alix) both of Springfield, Missouri, and two great-grandchildren: Kane and Kamon Cooper both of Lockwood, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents Loyd and Mary, her husband Burton and one son Charles Cooper.

Visitation for Alma is being held on Wednesday April 19, 2017 from 10a-11a with funeral services to start at 11a at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri.

Glenda Hawkins

Glenda Jane Hawkins was born August 23, 1946 in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Leah (Overstreet) Bentley. She entered into rest on April 15, 2017 in Joplin, Missouri at the age of 70. 

Glenda was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Midway High School in 1964. She had worked as the head cook of the East Newton School District, Granby campus. 

 Glenda married Joe Hawkins and he preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Bittick and husband, Danny of Pierce City and Kelly Lawson of Granby; four grandchildren, Danielle, Skylar, Taylor and Garrett and one sister, Jeanette Gripka and husband, Gene of Pierce City. In addition to her mother and husband, Glenda is preceded in death by a son, Johnnie Lawson. 

 Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Newtonia IOOF Cemetery with J.R. Burr officiating.

Gary Ledford

Gary Harvey Ledford, 86, of rural Cherokee, Kansas, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home. 

He was born March 18, 1931 near West Mineral, Kansas, to Lauren and Gertrude (Lovell) Ledford. He attended local schools and graduated from West Mineral High School. 

On October 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Ruth Morrow at Parsons, Kansas. She survives at the family home. Mr. Ledford was self-employed as a carpenter and contractor. Membership was held in the Osage Church of the Brethren near McCune, Kansas. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven Ledford and his wife, Jeanie of Belton, Missouri and Scott Ledford and his wife, Sonja of Columbus, Kansas; a daughter, Jan Rice and her husband, Craig of Fort Scott, Kansas; a brother, Martin Ledford and his wife, Betty of Cherokee, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Rose White of Nevada, Missouri and Kathleen Reynolds and her husband, Larry of Joplin, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Crystal Spratley, Lindsey Ledford, Matthew Ledford, Heather York, Brandon Ledford, Casey Holt and Kinley Rice; and three great-grandchildren, Michael Spratley, Knox Holt and Eastyn Holt. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (April 19) at the Osage Church of the Brethren with Rev. Dustin Ledford officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Osage Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 2 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice. Charles Biggerstaff

Charles Edward Biggerstaff, 73, Granby, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 

 He was born May 17, 1943 in McLeansboro, Illinois, to Finnis and Dorothy (McKinnis) Biggerstaff. Charles moved to Granby in 1990 from Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force and Army Reserves and had worked in customer service for Wal-Mart. He was a member of Bible Holiness Assembly of God. 

 Charles married Martha (Ewing) on August 13, 1966 and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2012. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Biggerstaff of Neosho, MO; three children, Stephen Biggerstaff and wife, Tonya of Durant, OK, Elizabeth Godfrey and husband, Chris of Edmond, OK and Nathan Biggerstaff and wife, Sharilyn of Denver, PA; sister, Christena Frye of Biloxi, MS and seventeen grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Charles is preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Anita K. Biggerstaff. 

 Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Bible Holiness Assembly of God, with Rev. Daniel Taylor officiating. Burial in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.
