John Windle

Dr. John Clifton Windle, age 93, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away September 26, 2019.
He was born November 20, 1925, in Joplin, Missouri, to Frank Wm. and Vera L. (Faulkner) Windle.

Dr. Windle attended Joplin Junior College from 1943-1944 and Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, from 1944-1945. He served as a United States Navy Corpsman until 1946. He then served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Nuremberg, Germany, and was promoted to Captain in 1950. Dr. Windle graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry in 1949 and married Joan Sweatt the same year. She preceded him in death in 2007.








He began his own dentistry practice in 1950 at 320 Frisco Building in Joplin, Missouri. He was a past member of the Missouri Dental Board and served on the board for eight years. He was a past member of the Central Regional Dental testing for 11 states and served on the board for 20 years. He was the co-founder of the Dental Hygiene School at MSSU. He was a member of the Southwest Dental Association for over 50 years, and Past President of the Joplin Rotary Club, as well as serving as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin, Missouri.

Dr. Windle married Barbara Louis Baker on December 9, 2008, and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Diana S. Miller of Taos, New Mexico, and Pamela J. Staley of Denver, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Rosana Brothers and Cheri Corner; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who he adored very much.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Joplin, Missouri, with Rev. John Nipper officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

Shirley Stephens

Shirley Lorene Stephens, 84 of Fort Scott, passed away Friday evening September 27, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. She was born April 17, 1935, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Dan and Edith Amelia (Tucker) Freer.

 She married Roger Boyles on September 19, 1952, in Piggett, Arkansas, he preceded her in death. She married John Albert Stephens on June 19, 1972, in Girard, Kansas, he preceded her in death on October 20, 2007.

During her life, Shirley had several jobs one of which was Nanny/Cook/Housekeeper for several different families including her own.










She is survived by four daughters, Gail Byrd of Webb City, Missouri, Leanna and Mike Burke of Blue Springs, Missouri, Moria and Darrin Gauthier of Fort Scott, and Michelle and Doug Walton of Mildred, Kansas, four sons, Gus and Heidi Boyles of Frontenac, Kansas, Chuck and Holli Boyles of Pittsburg, Kansas, Mike Stephens of Westphalia, Kansas, and Matt and Jennifer Stephens of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, a sister, Raylene Freer of Fort Scott, and a brother, David Freer of Fort Scott, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

 In addition to her husbands, Roger Boyles and Johnnie Stephens, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Roger Burke, a sister, Joan Collins and her parents.

Funeral Services for Shirley Stephens will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hawk officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2019, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Bob Golob

Robert Lee “Bob” Golob, 78 of Capaldo, KS died September 28, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born February 11, 1941 in Crawford County, KS the son of Joseph and Barbara (Manion) Golob.

On July 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to Jo Marie Burgar at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. She survives him of the home.

Bob worked in the Gas Service industry for many years in management.








He was a member of both Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Lourdes Parishes. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus 883 where he served as Grand Knight from 1978-1979, he rose to 4th degree knight in 1981 and was currently the treasurer of 883. Bob was also the president of the Knights of Columbus Tower for 41 years.

Bob… AKA Bob-O-Links and/or 3 Busch Bob was an avid coin collector and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. Additional memberships include Kapans Men, Miners Hall and the Cherokee Foundation. He dedicated his life serving the community; he was a stranger to no one.

Additional survivors include two daughters: Anna Marie (Matt) Sossamon of Webb City, MO and Teresa Renee (Chris) Shouse of Pittsburg; a brother Steven Duesi of Bluejacket, OK, a sister Betty Ann Eberly of Kootenai, ID; a son-in-law Jerry Hayes of Overland Park, KS along with six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a farm dog Sissy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Judith Hayes.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10am, Wednesday October 2nd, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexhearth as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rosary will be at 6:30pm Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, visitation will follow.

Bill Epple

Services will be held at 12 noon Friday at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo., for William “Bill” Arthur Epple, 82, who died at 7:21 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. The funeral home is located at 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include his daughter, Christie Dawson and husband Jeffrey; son, Phillip Epple and wife Karen; three grandchildren, Jennifer McDaniel, Madeline Epple and Katelyn Epple and extensive family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years and four siblings.

Mr. Epple was born Jan. 7, 1937, in Lamar, to George L. and Hattie L. (Smith) Epple. He was the second oldest in his family. He started his career as a farmer and worked after school for Masterson’s, then for Lawn Boy until they closed. He then moved to Independence and worked for 22 years at Kenworth and Dart Truck Company until they closed in 1985, at which time he went back to farming until he retired. Of all of the jobs he had, farming was the one he liked most. While farming was hard work, it was rewarding too, like getting to drive the John Deere tractors.

He met the love of his life, Carleta E. Wiley and they were wed on June 3, 1961. While proud of their children, the grandchildren were adored.

One of his favorite sayings was, “Onward Christian Soldiers!”

Cyndy Savage

Cynthia “Cyndy” Carolyn Denny Savage, 72, Katy, died at her home on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 12, 1947, in Lamar, Mo., to William Verne and Mary Carolyn (Hart) Denny, who preceded her in death. She was the youngest of four children.

She graduated from Liberal High School in Liberal, Mo., in 1965 and worked as a hairdresser/stylist before entering the U.S. Navy, where she honorably served her country.

She married James Michael “Mike” Savage on Aug. 31, 1968, in Iantha, Mo., while they were both serving in the U.S. Navy. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1988. They had two children, Russ Alan and Michelle Renee.

Mrs. Savage was a homemaker while rearing their children and lived in several states due to her husband’s deployment.








After his death she returned to Missouri and fulfilled a dream and built, opened and operated Just Like Grandma’s, a successful bed and breakfast, near Branson, Mo. She was involved with the United Methodist Women’s Group. She loved to cook, read, play games, do craft projects and travel.

Survivors include a son, Russ Savage, Coconut Creek, Fla.; a daughter, Michelle and wife Meghan Fairbanks, Houston; four grandchildren, Logan French, Ian French, Ben Savage and Adam Savage; siblings, Joe and wife Loretta Denny, Judy Roehrs and Bill and wife Donna Denny and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of friends.

She will be cremated and burial will be next summer in the Iantha Cemetery, Iantha, Mo., beside her husband and parents.

Jane Tripp

Jane Renea Tripp was born September 28, 1962 in Rhinebeck, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Judy Claussen. She entered into rest on September 26, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the age of 56.

Jane was co-owner of T and C Hauling, a property preservation entity. 

Jane and Chris Tripp were married on Aug. 18, 1984 and he survives. 








Additional survivors include three children, Richard Tripp, William Tripp and Crystal Thurman, all of Neosho, her father, Richard Claussen of Neosho; two brothers, Jim Claussen and Paul Claussen of Neosho and three grandchildren.

Iva Patterson

Iva May Grimes Patterson, 66, of Pea Ridge, died September 29 at Bradford House in Bentonville.

She was born October 21, 1952 in Rogers, Arkansas to Bob Ira Grimes and Okla Cleo Brown Grimes. She was a homemaker. She loved her dogs, oil painting and quilting while listening to gospel music. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Patterson and a infant brother, Larry Grimes.








Survivors are three brothers, Jerry Grimes (Lora) of Pineville, Missouri, Ricky Grimes (Linda) of Garfield, Ronnie Grimes (Nalene) of Pineville, Missouri; four sisters, Donna Doyle ( Ellis) of Garfield, Rosemary Peterson (John) of Pea Ridge, Carolyn Tipton of Exeter, Missouri and Belva Peterson (Eldon) of Washburn, Missouri.

Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at Henson Cemetery in Garfield. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge. No Visitation.

Mary Patterson

Mary Leota Patterson, Granby, MO entered into rest September 28, 2019 after a short illness, at the age of 87 years, eleven months, and twenty-six days.

Mary was born October 2, 1931 in Ritchey, MO to Claude and Velma (Cooper) English. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker, a former factory worker, and until approximately ten years ago, was a substitute cook for the East Newton school district. 

Mary and Gene W. Patterson were married May 14, 1956; he preceded her in death on April 28, 2003. Mary was a member of the Ritchey Baptist Church and the Ritchey Chicks. She loved to work on the farm, milk cows, pick berries, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 








Mary is survived by her children, Anga Lemaster and husband, Bill of Ritchey and Doug Patterson and wife, Janice of Granby; four grandchildren, Thomas Patterson, Micah Moorehouse, Haley Harris, and Danielle Bennett; and three great grandchildren, Aiden, Benjamin and Henry Bennett. In addition to her husband, Gene, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Claudledean Burrows.

Services will be held 10 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home, Granby Chapel in Granby, MO. Caleb Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Hazelgreen Cemetery in the Boulder City Community. Tyler Bennett, Matthew Harris, Matt Moorehouse, and Thomas Patterson will serve as pallbearers. The family will have a time of visitation on Tuesday, October 1 from 5:30 until 7:00 at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby Chapel.

Helen Bostwick

Helen Delores Bostwick, age 82, Joplin, passed away at 2:56 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at her home after a long illness.

Helen was born January 8, 1937 in Hutchinson, Kansas to the late Clyde Henry Steel and Helen Lorene Armstead Steel and had lived in the Joplin/Pittsburg area for most of her life.










Helen and her husband operated the newspaper in Delphos, Kansas for several years. After her move to the Joplin area, she worked as a social worker in Pittsburg, Kansas for many years. She loved her family and will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Helen is survived by a son, Terry S. Bostwick, Paris, France; two daughters, Dana Mason and husband, David Bowers, Shawn R. Bostwick and husband, Daniel Hallacy; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Lynn Thompson

Paula Lynn Thompson was born October 25, 1952 in Granby, Missouri, the daughter of William 'Bill' and Patty (Crowe) McKinney. She entered into rest on September 25, 2019 at the home of her son in Tomball, Texas, following an extended illness at the age of 66.

Paula worked as a cook at Medicalodge for eleven years and had moved to Tomball, Texas in December of 2018. She was a member of the Ritchey Baptist Church. 

Paula is survived by her son, Jason Thompson of Tomball, Texas; three grandchildren, April Thompson, Kaylyn Thompson and Keith Thompson; her mother, Patty McKinney of Granby; two brothers, Pat McKinney and wife, Carla of Granby and Gray McKinney and wife, Missy of Granby and one sister, Kelly Judd and husband, Larry of Granby. 








She is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Thompson, a son, Joshua Thompson, a daughter, Monica Thompson and her father Bill McKinney.

SMSgt Pleasant Etsel (PE) Davis, USAF, Ret., 99, died September 29, 2019, as a result of a fall.

PE was born November 7, 1919, in Pittsburg, KS, to Charlie and Stella Hizar Davis. He graduated from Pittsburg HS in 1937 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940. He served in WWII as a gunner/radio operator in the Pacific.

He married Billie Jeane Harkins on February 23, 1947, in Liberal, MO, where they made their home until he was recalled to the Air Force in 1951. He served a total of 29 years retiring in August 1969. He and Billie then made their home in Liberal where he drove a route for Frito-Lay for 10 years. After a few years in the Wichita area, they moved to Pittsburg where he ferried cars for Pittsburg Ford. He finally decided maybe it was time to retire when he turned 94.










He is survived by daughter Carolyn Kretzer (John) of Wichita; a granddaughter, Molly, of Wichita; a grandson Benjamin (Taren) of Edmond, OK; and a great-grandaughter Elliot.

PE was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Billie; an infant son John Randall; a brother Clarence; and a sister Inez Davis Oehme.

He leaves behind a legacy of how to live a good life. When recently asked what he attributed his longevity to, he responded, “No grudges and good wine.” The family is grateful for all of his friends in Pittsburg who looked out for him and listened to his many stories.

Visitation will be Thursday (Oct. 3) at Brenner Mortuary, 6:30-8:00PM. A private military graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pittsburg Public Library, 308 N. Walnut, Pittsburg 66762. PE served on the library board for many years and counted the “girls at the library” among his many friends. Melvin Ramseyer

Melvin L. Ramseyer, age 84, Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away at 11:06 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Joplin Gardens after an illness.

Melvin was born January 4, 1935 in Liberal, Missouri to the late Aaron Ramseyer and Emma Shaw Ramseyer and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.

Melvin worked as a welder for Lozier, Inc. for over 34 years. He had also worked at the Joplin Regional Airport at Ozark Airlines for several years. Melvin was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

He married Kathleen McCoy in 1967 in Joplin. She survives at the home.








Additional survivors include a daughter, Theresa Ramseyer, Carl Junction; and siblings, Florence and Charles Ramseyer, Harrisonville, Missouri, Beverly and Joe Ramseyer, Lamar, Kathryn and Larry Blythe, Pittsburg, Kansas; and several other extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Eva Ramseyer.

Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. Dr. John Swadley will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Lee Collins

CLEBURNE, Texas | Ronald "Lee" Collins Jr., 57, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Lee was born on Sept. 24, 1962 to Ronald and Patricia (Botts) Collins Sr. in Belle Fourche, SD. He was the youngest of six children and grew up in Newell, SD. He was a truck driver and drove for various companies throughout the years.

Lee was a very proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Together Lee and his husband had four dogs (their “kids”) that he absolutely adored. One of Lee’s favorite pastimes was camping and traveling to visit family and friends.








Those to cherish Lee’s memories are his mother, Patricia Collins of Sturgis; father, Ron (Wendy) Collins Sr. of Whitewood; his siblings, Chris (John) Cross of Lamar, MO, Jeff of Joplin, MO, Steve of Hulett, WY, Angie (Kenny) Krause of Piedmont, and Rona Hanson (Tony Powell) of Martin; daughter, Ashlyn Collins (Joaquin Solorazano) of Sioux Falls; stepdaughters, Leah (Chad) Bartling of Kearney, NE, and Michelle Hayes of Bellevue, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

Lee was preceded in death by his husband, Mark Liske; an infant brother, Randall; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Private family services will be held.

Bill James

William Terrill James, age 88, of Golden City, passed away September 27, 2019, at Good Shepherd Community Care.

Bill was born August 10, 1931 in Lebanon, MO to George Farmer James and Vesta (Todd) James.

On April 30, 1949, William married Juanita L. Fanning. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954. He worked for Consolidated Freight Ways in Kansas City, MO for 35 years and as an auctioneer for 25 years. 








After retiring, he spent several years as a mechanic for Fanning Service Center in Golden City, MO. Bill loved to fish and hunt and was very proud of his Brittany hunting dogs. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Golden City, helping to remodel the sanctuary, parsonage and family life center.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Juanita; a sister, Ruthe James; brothers-in-law, Delbert (Lena) Fanning and Gene (Sue) Fanning; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Glen) York; and loved by several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents; a brother, Robert James; four sisters, Darcus Foster, Ella Singleton, Glyda Darnell and Farron Godfrey.

Service will be 7:00 pm Monday, September 30, 2019, at First Christian Church, Golden City.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, at the church.

Eugene Hill

Eugene Hill, age 55, Joplin, passed away at 3:21 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Mercy Hospital after an illness.

Eugene was born November 12, 1963 in Malden, Missouri to the late George Hill and Margaret Eaton Hill and had lived in Joplin most of his life.

Eugene was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved his family with all his heart and will be missed by everyone that knew him.








Survivors include a son, Jordache Hudson, Neosho; two grandchildren, Espynn Clair Mae Hudson and Akeryah Danae Nicole Hudson; siblings, Jacqueline Thurman, Glisha Hill, Odessa Hills, Larry Hill, Henry Hill, Emory Hill, Tony Hill; and many extended family members.

Eugene has been taken for cremation. A family service is planned for a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Joyce Shipman

Joyce E. Shipman, 67, of rural Girard, died Sunday, September 22, 2019 at her residence.

Joyce was born January 21, 1952 in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse “Buss” and Floreine (Denayer) Kountz. She grew up at rural Girard and graduated from Northeast High School in Arma, Kansas in 1970. Joyce attended Pittsburg State University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in music, her Master’s Degree in special education, and her Eds Degree in Community College.

She married Phillip K. Shipman on May 12, 1973 in Arma. Phillip preceded her in death on September 29, 2017.

Joyce and Phillip owned and operated Shipman Cattle Company at rural Girard.

Joyce was a music teacher, including orchestra, band, vocal, piano, and guitar at the middle and high school in Fort Scott and Erie, Kansas. She was a special education teacher in Girard, Erie, and Uniontown, Kansas and she was Director of Center of Academic and Vocational Excellence Programs at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas.

Joyce enjoyed being a mother and “Nana” to her grandchildren. She enjoyed her students, reading, and attending cattle shows.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Girard, the United Methodist Women, and a past member of the Board of Directors at the church. She was a past president of the Limi Boosters Association of the North America Limousin Foundation and junior sponsor of the Kansas Jr. Limousin Breeders Association. She was a 4-H leader for over 40 years and a member of the NEA and the KNEA.








Joyce is survived by a daughter, Lacey McCarley, and her husband, D.J., of Girard; her sons, Jered Shipman, and his wife, Haley, of Grandview, Texas and Branon Shipman of Joplin, Missouri; her grandchildren Tanner Shipman, Adysin McCarley, Brecken Shipman, Elizabeth Shipman, Bodie Shipman, Aliston McCarley and Burke Shipman.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor David Clark officiating. Private services will be held at the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday.

Joyce Darnell

Joyce M. Darnell age 89 of Webb City, Missouri passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born in Godmanchester, England on May 2, 1930 to John and Mae Veary. She was a bank teller, an inspector, and also made fudge in Silver Dollar City, in Branson, Missouri. 








Joyce is survived by her sons; Howard Darnell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John Darnell of California; a grandson, Matthew Darnell; sister, Margaret Wiggins and her husband Greg of Illinois; and a brother, John Veary of Washington. 

Joyce has been taken for cremation and no services are planned at this time.

Anna Doss

Anna Louise Doss, age 93, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Autumn Home Care in Columbus, Kansas after a lengthy illness.

Anna was born December 30, 1925 in Webb City, Missouri, daughter of the late Ernest Hensley and Dicie Dodson Hensley. She grew up in Webb City, and was a stay at home wife and mother. She loved spending time with her family, and had a strong faith.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Doss, Jr., who passed away on November 16, 2006; a daughter, Linda Kohler, seven sisters and one brother.








Survivors include her sons, Terry D. Doss and wife Ruby, and Shannon Neal Doss all of Joplin; seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Private services were held at Fairview Cemetery, next to family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Lorena Francis Breedlove, age 101, of Iantha, MO passed away peacefully at her home on September 25, 2019. Lorena was born to Goldie and Emmett McWhirter on August 30, 1918 in Sentinel, OK. 

She married Leland Breedlove December 4, 1935. She lived in Lebanon, MO for many years before moving to Iantha, MO. 

Lorena lived a long and fruitful life. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, and especially enjoyed quilting. Lorena attended the Iantha Baptist Church for many years. 








She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Gary) Phipps of Lamar, MO and Doris (Jim) Esser of Kansas City, MO, four grandchildren, Timothy (Anna) Phipps, Dena (Dave) Wilkerson, Dennis (Mayela) Esser, Douglas (Annissa) Esser, seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Esser, Matthew Esser, Joshua Esser, Cole Esser, Kade Esser, Lori (Miles) Batchelor, and Megan Wilkerson, three great-great-grandchildren, Foster Batchelor, Charlotte Batchelor, and Luna Wilkerson, one brother, Gene Felkner, Fair Grove, MO and she was “Aunt Rene” to many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Lorena is preceded in death by her husband and parents as well as four brothers Odis McWhirter, Richard Felkner, Leroy Felkner, Fred Felkner and one sister, Juanita Dampier.

Hermila Nuñez De Luna, age 74, of Butterfield, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2019, at Roaring River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cassville, Missouri.

She was born January 13, 1945 in Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Nicolas Nuñez Aguirre and Juana Nuñez Carrasco.

On February 24, 1963, in Durango, Mexico, she was united in marriage to Antonio Luna, who preceded her on death on October 27, 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents.








Surviving are two sons, Martin Luna and his wife Rosalba of Rocky Comfort, Missouri and George Luna of Butterfield, Missouri; four daughters, Yolanda Luna Nuñez of Maywood, Illinois, Soledad Luna of Carpentersville, Illinois, Elsa Luna of Monett, Missouri and Estela Luna of North Riverside, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Monica Bahena, Jasmine Luna, Stephanie Sandobal, Antonio Bahena Jr., Oscar Sandobal, George Luna Jr., Natalia Luna, Christian Burgos, Danielle Rodriguez, Nicholas Luna, Sergio Gonzalez Jr. and Alexander Gonzalez.

Hermila grew up in Durango, Mexico, where she graduated from high school. Later she moved to the United States with her husband, Antonio, to make her home. Hermila was an extraordinary woman whom we love and admire with all our hearts. She was humble, caring, giving and always had a positive attitude. Some of the things she enjoyed the most was watching the Cubs, word puzzles, crocheting and always making sure her family had a delicious home cooked meal. She will be missed by all but will live in our hearts forever. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Cassville.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2019 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Father Bill Hodgson will conduct the services. Burial will be at Rocky Comfort Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Kenneth Schroer

Kenneth J. Schroer, age 65, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at his home with family by his side.

He was born December 24, 1953 in Joplin, Missouri to Robert and Agnes (Mahoney) Schroer.

Ken was Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Safety Director at Freeman Health System, retiring in February 2018.

He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as a lector, altar server, Knights of Columbus member and vocalist in the choir.








He had a passion for golf, travel, horse racing and spending time with his family.

Ken attended McAuley Catholic High School and graduated in 1972. He was an honor student, multi sport standout, class officer, and a proud member of the “Big 5”. While earning his Bachelor’s degree at MSSC, he shined behind home plate as the Lions catcher.

He married Tina Stephens on September 25, 1987 in Joplin, Missouri. They celebrated 32 years of marriage on the day he passed.

Tina survives, as well as six daughters, Amy Schroer, Bethany Schroer, Jennifer Schroer (Kevan Martone), Adena Burks (Wayne), Paula Hurl (William), Whitney Dixon (Andrew) and one son, Chadwick Hunter. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Averi and Allie Burks, Keenan and Marshall Hurl, Greyson Schroer Elick, California and Diem Martone, and Olivia Dixon, one brother, Robert Schroer, one sister Mary Ann Turk as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Adena Schroer.

A special thank you to Dr. Bernard Bettasso and staff, Dr. Matt Miller and staff, and Compassus Hospice.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Monday September 30, 2019 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday October 1, 2019 at St Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Weidenbenner officiating.

In memory of Ken, the family request memorial contributions be made to St Vincent DePaul Society. Contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Mary Spencer

Mary Elizabeth Spencer, 82, of Stella, MO passed away Sept. 26, 2019 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. She was the daughter of Gladsy and Geneva Dickens of Rocky Comfort. She was born Sept. 17, 1937.

She retired from Sunbeam Industries in Neosho after 33 years. 

Survivors include children, Paula Kronschnabel and husband, Dan of Aurora, MO, Roger Spencer and wife, Carolyn of Cassville, MO, Pauline Patterson and husband, Kenny of Rogers, AR, Jessee Spencer and wife, Jennifer of Stark City, MO, Jean Ann Spencer of the home, and Paul D. Spencer of Wheaton, MO; sisters, Joy Burr of Stark City, MO and Betty Jones of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Roy Lee Dickens of Springfield, MO; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 








She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Spencer; one sister, Virgie Stephens; and one grandson, Christopher “Kit” Spencer. She was a loving mother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Peggy Carsello

Peggy Ann Carsello, age 86, Joplin, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.

Peggy was born July 10, 1933 in Pittsburg, Kansas to the late Raymond Richards and Hazel Crain Richards and had lived in Joplin since 1995, moving from Marshfield, Missouri.

Peggy graduated in 1951 from South Shore High School in Chicago. She had worked as a realtor, waitress and secretary for several businesses in the Chicago area for several years.








Peggy loved to paint; dance and was an excellent decorator, whether with flowers or at the home. She volunteered with Mercy Hospice and was a very spiritual woman, sharing God's love with many. Peggy loved animals and was a 'mama bear' when it came to her family. She was a very humble woman that will be missed by anyone that knew her.

Survivors include her children, David Ott and wife, Victoria, Joplin, Laura Bradshaw and husband, Ron, Port Orchard, Washington, Kathleen Alexander and husband, Jim, Snohomish, Washington, Chris Ott, Joplin; four cousins, Pat Kelly Means, Ann Theis, Bob Richards, Don Spigerrelli; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many friends, including her Joplin Health and Rehabilitation family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Sylvester Vermillion

Sylvester Lawrence Vermillion, Sr., 83, Neosho, MO entered into rest September 27, 2019. He was born March 14, 1936 on Standing Rock Souix Indian Reservation in Kenel, South Dakota to Charles Vermillion, Jr, and Rose Mae (Sac) Vermillion.

Sylvester served in the US Marine Corps from 1959-1963. He worked as a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor for 31 years. Sylvester enjoyed football, the outdoors, hunting, traveling, and proudly teaching his Lakota heritage to his family. 

He and Jane McDaniel were married November 20, 1964 in Miami, OK; she survives. 








Additional survivors include four children, Shelly MacBean and husband, John of Cornell, IL, Stephanie Vermillion and significant other, Charles Williams of Joliet, IL, Sylvester Vermillion, Jr. of Columbia Falls, MT, and Lea Vermillion and significant other, Anthony Greenham of Buffalo, MO; one step-brother, Adgie Martin of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Angeline Montclair of Fort Yates, ND; one step-sister, Alvina Martin of Kenel, SD; twelve grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. 

Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jodi; two grandsons; five brothers; and two sisters. 

A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, October 3 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. 

Interment will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Fosdick, Trevor Vermillion, Tyler Vermillion, Shayna MacBean, Stanley Vermillion, John MacBean II, and Cheyenne MacBean.

Katie Harlan

Katherine “Katie” Laverne Wagner Harlan, age 97, Joplin, passed away at 2:11 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at her residence.

Katie was born September 23, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Richard Raymond Watkins and Eve Mae Burris and had lived in Joplin since 2012.

Katie was dedicated to her family and took pride in raising her children. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She loved living life to its fullest, telling stories, and was an avid reader, reading a book a day.

When she wasn't doing something for others, Katie enjoyed all types of arts and crafts. She even had personalized tags for items she made that read, “Katie did it”. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.








In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by a son, Gary K. Wagner, her brother, Richard Eugene Wagner and two husbands; Ben Butler Wagner, to whom Katie was married fifty-seven years until his passing in 1998; and Robert Evart Harlan who passed in 2013.

Katie is survived by five children, Dennis L. Wagner and wife, Patti, Carthage, Missouri, Marilyn J. Schuman, Chicago, Illinois, D. Scott Wagner, Pittsburg, Kansas, Karyl K. Vestal and husband, Gary, Quapaw, Oklahoma, Christopher L. Wagner and wife, Denise, Carthage, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and several extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 19th, 2019 at Generations Freewill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism in care of Parker Mortuary.

Patricia Lee Kingrey, age 83, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at her granddaughter's home in Webb City.

Patricia was born June 21, 1936 in Joplin, daughter of the late William Mosher and Madolyn Elsie Victor Mosher. She graduated from High School, and worked with Home Savings and Loan, United Missouri Bank, before beginning her career with Burl Garvin Real Estate. She worked for them as a bookkeeper for over 25 years before retiring. She attended St. Paul United Methodist Church of Joplin.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Kingrey, who passed away November 21, 2013, and a son, Thomas Brooks, who passed away November 13, 2017.










Survivors include a son, David Brooks of Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Joyce Richey of Farmington, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, April Brooks Smith, Chad Brooks (Chelsie), Cherona Hicklin (Robin), Tara Brooks (Isaac Fritchey), Lindsey Olds (Justin), Sarah Massey (Zach), Hank DePriest (Kara); 16 great-grandchildren, Dominic, Maleigha, Devin, Dymiree, Dayleigh, Cashe, Chase, Chesney, Chaxson, Hadley, Carson, Nolan, Myles, Damon, Gunner, Tomi Lynn; four great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Beth Brooks of Joplin, and a niece, Kerri Simms of Farmington.

Della Buchanan

Della Mae Chatman-Buchanan was born July 14, 1934 in Fort Smith, Arkansas one of seven children to James A. and Flora E. (Monroe) Capps. She entered into rest on September 26, 2019 in Joplin, Missouri, following a long illness at the age of 85.

Della spent her childhood in South Fort Smith, Arkansas, the daughter of a smelter worker. 

She married James W. Chatman, Sr. at the age of 16 and to this union, five children were born. She relocated to Neosho in 1959 where she raised her children and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. in 1969, she joined the work force at Buddy-L, later working at Sale Memorial Hospital and Teledyne in Quality Control. She later moved to Arkansas City, Kansas to work for General Electric, first in quality control and then as a buyer. She volunteered at Freeman Neosho Hospital for many years and had been active in the Red Hat Organization and Newcomer's Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she found a close group of friends. 








Della married James S. Buchanan on May 7, 1988 and he preceded her in death. 

She is survived by five children, James W. Chatman, Jr. of Neosho; Ira Douglas Chatman and wife, Deborah of Mt. Home, Arkansas; Steven Chatman and wife, Catherine of Davis, California; Laura Chatman of Neosho and Brian Chatman and wife, Julie of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Micaela Chatman, Ariel Kleczewski, Clelland Chatman, Kyle Chatman, Sarah Vercruysse, Lillian Harr and Clayton Chatman and four great grandchildren, Arthur Chatman, Matilda Chatman, Adam Vercuysse, Lucy Kleczewski and one due to arrive in April, 2020. 

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.

He was born March 6, 1972 in Springdale, AR to Charles W. and Betty Mae (Jones) Cullers. Jason spent most of his life in the Stella, MO area, where he was a crop and cattle farmer. 








He is survived by his father Charles Cullers; his brother, Noah Cullers; and his sister, Shannon Cullers, all of Stella. 

Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Mae Cullers on December 20, 2017.

Frances Castle

Frances Louise Castle, age 98, of Pierce City, MO died on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Lacoba Homes Inc. in Monett, MO. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Herman and Mary Teresa (Gripka) Seufert and siblings, Helen (Emmitt) Roetto, Florence (Charles) Grable, and Bernard Seufert. 

She was born in Ritchey, MO on August 5, 1921. She attended school in Wentworth, MO and graduated from Diamond High School. She attended Pittsburg Business College in Pittsburgh, Kansas and worked for Fadler Produce Company of Pittsburg, KS as a bookkeeper for eight years.








In 1946, she married James O. Freeman and resided in Hutchinson, Kansas before moving to the Pulaskifield, MO area and later to Pierce City, MO. Frances was a longtime businesswoman and unit sales leader for Stanley Home Products company and was named its national sales person of the year. She loved to travel and earned many travel experiences through her business. 

Her husband, James, died in 1980 and in 1990 she married Billy E. Castle, who died in 2008. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul’s and St. Mary’s Catholic churches and attended St. Lawrence church. She belonged to Pierce City Council of Catholic Women, Cox Hospital Auxiliary, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Frances had eight children: Jerry (Dores Jay -Pang) Freeman of Rio Communities, NM; Mary Ann Freeman of Cottage Grove, MN; Jeanette (Skip) Hartzell of Port St. Lucie, FL; Michael (Gretchen) Freeman of McMinnville, OR; Jane (Steve, deceased) of Tulsa, OK; Pat, recently deceased (Lynn) Freeman of Pierce City, MO; and Janice Freeman and Alice Freeman, of Tulsa, OK. Frances had seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a large extended family in the southwest Missouri area.

The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on September 27, 2019 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Prayer Service will follow at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM with Father Matt Rehrauer officiating. Clayton Montgomery

R. “Clayton” Montgomery, 93, Seneca, MO passed into eternal rest September 24, 2019 at the NHC Nursing Home in Joplin, MO after a brief illness.

Roy “Clayton” Montgomery was born November 15, 1925 in West Seneca, OK the son of Walter and Rosa Anne (Yocum) Montgomery and was a lifelong Seneca resident.

Clayton was a 1943 graduate of Seneca High School. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines. He served on four different ships during his time in the Merchant Marines. He worked 48 years for the former Milnot plant. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Seneca, MO where he served as a Deacon for many years. Clayton loved working outside on his garden. He loved fishing and especially loved spending time with his family.

Clayton Montgomery married Wanda JoAnne Rawlinson February 7, 1948 in Miami, OK and she preceded him in death October 17, 2001. Clayton was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gordon Zane, Leon Montgomery and Carl Montgomery.








Survivors include three daughters; Nodya Gritts, Seneca, MO, Shana White, Belleville, IL and Royce Montgomery, Webb City, MO; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

The Montgomery family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.

Gary Shipman

Gary Lee Shipman, age 78, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday morning, September 24, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Gary was born August 26, 1941 in Carthage, Missouri to the late Harlin Shipman and Alice (Lemery) Shipman.

He was a 1959 graduate of Sarcoxie High School and then received his B.S. degree in business from Missouri Southern. Gary was a proud veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. 

He married Debra Johnson on October 11, 2006 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He worked in the sales department for Lowe’s.








Survivors include his wife, Debra; two daughters, Amanda Cox (husband Mark), Carl Junction, Missouri, and Jill Shipman, Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Gary Shipman, Jr. (wife Rhoda), Zion, Illinois, and Doug Shipman (wife Maria), Glenview, Illinois; four brothers, Dale Shipman (wife Rebecca), Clinton, Missouri, Jerry Shipman, Kansas City, Missouri, Richard Shipman, Carthage, and Robert Shipman, Kansas City; and ten grandchildren with one on the way.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Peterson; and one brother, Danny Shipman.

David Nichols

David Wesley Nichols, age 73, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.

David was born February 21, 1946 in Carthage to the late Ernest Samuel Nichols and Mary Carolyn (Harp) Nichols. He worked as a custodian at Schreiber Foods in Carthage. David was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Carthage.








Survivors include two brothers, Robert L. Nichols, Carthage, and Danny R. Nichols (wife Brenda), Carl Junction, Missouri; one sister, Deloris Simsick, Sarcoxie, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held 6-7 pm, Monday, September 30, 2019 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm, Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Bible Baptist Church, Carthage. Katie Lowe

Mrs. Katie Ann Lowe, 32, of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Missouri University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, after a recent decline in health. 

Katie entered this life on November 5, 1986, in Rogers, Arkansas, born to the union of Lawrence Lee and Sherry (Wess) Nell. She was raised and attended school in Northwest Arkansas. 

 On December 10, 2005, she was united in marriage to Billy Lowe and to this union two daughters and a son were born. Katie was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed singing, drawing and was extremely kind hearted. She was a member of Splitlog Baptist Church. 








Katie is survived by her husband, Billy Lowe of the home; three children, Hannah, Halie and Jeremiah Lowe all of the home; her parents, Sherry Henderson and husband, Dave, of Gravette, Arkansas and Lawrence Nell and wife, Barbara, of Centerton, Arkansas; a brother, Joshua Nell of Rogers, Arkansas; two sisters, Stormy Simpkins of Decatur, Arkansas and Summer Simpkins of Gravette; stepsiblings, Kassie Henderson, Tiffany Ragland, Melissa McIver, Barbara Jean Conroy, Alan Smaron and Christina Nell. as well as a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2019 from 12-3:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Telly Joseph Beerly, age 43, of Golden City, Missouri passed away September 24, 2019, at Cox South Medical Center Springfield, MO

Telly was born April 25, 1976 in Carthage, MO to Gaylon Laverne Beerly and Betty Louise (Bishop) Beerly. Telly graduated from Golden City High School in the class of 1994 and attended Ozark Technical College, Springfield, MO.

Telly worked as a cattle farmer with his dad and had previously worked as a press operator at Ample Industries, Nixa, MO. He loved to golf and played on a golf league and mowed the Lockwood Golf Course. He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Golden City, MO








Survivors include his parents, Gaylon and Betty Beerly, Golden City, MO; a brother, Brad Beerly and his wife Sara, Golden City, MO; a grandmother, Peggy Bishop, Golden City, MO; nieces and nephews, Trevon Beerly, Taylor Beerly, Brooke Beerly, and Laynee Beerly; great-nieces Belle & Maggie Beerly, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2019, at Daniel Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial in Greenwood Kistler Cemetery.

George Dighero

George Edwin Dighero, age 93, of Lamar, Missouri passed away September 22, 2019, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, MO.

George was born September 11, 1926 in Irwin, MO to John Dominic Dighero and Mable Claire (Spurling) Dighero. He served his country by joining the U.S. Army. On September 3, 1950, George married Delores Jean Burke in Nevada, MO.

George worked as a construction supervisor, plowing underground telephone cable for Frank Horton. He also enjoyed raising cattle. George was a member of the American Legion, Liberal AF & AM Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, and the Lamar AF & AM Lodge.








Survivors include two sons, Steve Dighero and George (Tammy) Dighero, Lamar, MO; four grandchildren, Casey (Tammye) Dighero, Holly Shay Dighero (Fernando Mendez), Justin (Chelsea) Dighero, and Tyler (Jenna) Dighero; five great-grandchildren, Lily Dighero, Georgi Dighero, Andrew Mendez, Summer Mendez, Cheyanne Dighero.

Preceding George in death were his parents; his wife Delores Jean Dighero; a son, Dennis Dighero; four brothers, Dominic, Loyd, Johnnie and Herb Dighero; two sisters, Margaret Metcalf, and Mary Morrow.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, MO.

Masonic Rites will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery with Military Honors.

Douglas Carr

Douglas Carr 84, of Bentonville, Arkansas passed away September 24, 2019 in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born October 26, 1934 in Webb City, Missouri, the son of Frank Leroy and Mary Diehl Carr. 

He served in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 100 and a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Rogers.

He is preceded in death by one son, his mother, father and nine siblings.








He is survived by his siblings Elsie Krell, Wanda Karolyi, Juanita Bailey and many nephews and nieces.

Services with full Military Honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday; September 30, 2019 at the Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville Arkansas.
