Florence Sparlin

Florence Louise Sparlin, age 81 of Joplin, left this world at 9:14 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013 at National Healthcare Center.  Florence was known by many names: Mom, Granny, Sister, and Friend.  She was a gentle, kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved Jesus and will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known her.

Born March 16, 1932 in Prairie Grove, AR, she was the daughter of the late Luther Clinton Ballew and Nellie May Williams Ballew.  She married Paul Dennis Sparlin on June 5, 1948 in Benton County, AR. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1994.

She and her husband raised their family in Belleville, MO, where they lived over 50 years. Florence retired from Housekeeping at Freeman Hospital in 1994 with 19 years of service. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she served as a Deaconess.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Private family interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the donor’s favorite charity.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby Starchman of Carl Junction; four daughters, Becky Sparlin of Joplin, Cheryl Burleson and husband Mike of Webb City, Paula Bozarth of Joplin, Shirley Oster and husband Carey of Joplin; three sons, Mike Sparlin and wife Leslie of Joplin, Ronald Sparlin and wife Bridget of Joplin, Mark Sparlin and wife Elaine of Bartlesville, OK. 

Her greatest joy in life was time spent with family, including her 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ashford

Elizabeth Kay Ashford, 70, Neosho, passed away in her sleep at home on November 28, 2013. 

She was born in Racine, Mo. on July 09, 1943 to Harold and Elnora (McGehee) Durbin. 
Elizabeth was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Ashford, parents; Harold and Elnora Durbin, a brother; Mark Durbin and a sister; Sandra Testerman. 
Elizabeth is survived by her children: Dana Malinski and husband Larry, Afton, OK, Jack Roberts and wife Shannon, Afton, OK, Debra Hudelson and husband Doug, Miami, Ok and Richard Ashford and wife Denise, Garden Plain, KS. Four brothers, four sisters, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories.

Michael Mahurin

Michael L. Mahurin age 66 of Webb City passed away on Wednesday November 27, 2013 at Webb City Health & Rehab after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 30, 1947 in Webb City, Missouri to Jimmie Mahurin and Virgie Hayes Mahurin.

 Michael was a retired Master Chief serving 30 years in the United States Navy, and had worked for Able Body after his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Sue Younger Mahurin who passed away on July 25, 2010. Michael is survived by his mother, Virgie Mahurin of Webb City; daughters, Crissy Mahurin of Waretown, NJ, Rachael Hodgen of Durant, OK; sons, Brandon Mahurin of Wright City, OK, Jimmie Mahurin of Dallas, TX; sisters, Vikki Bastings of Webb City, Becky Broaddus of Carterville; special niece, Robyn Bastings-Hook of Webb City; and 10 grandchildren.

Myrtle Murray

Myrtle Margery Murray, 95, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Joplin, Missouri. Myrtle was born December 2, 1917 in Pottawattamie, Oklahoma. She was born to James Winter and Margery Edney. Myrtle was a lifetime resident of Jasper County. She owned and operated the Superett Grocery in Jasper for 12 years and she was a L.P.N. for 35 years. Myrtle attended First Christian Church.

Myrtle married Elwood Hill on April 18, 1936 in Carthage. He preceded her in December of 1979. She later married Leslie Murrary on January 13, 1985 in Sarcoxie, Missouri. He preceded her in death.

Myrtle is survived by two sons Dan Hill and wife Lois of Carthage and William Hill and wife Janice of Joplin, two daughters Joyce VanHoose and husband Scott of Carthage and Theresa and David Williams of Joplin, one brother Russell Winter and one sister Joyce Lampkin both of Bakersfield, CA, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded by her parents, her husband Elwood Hill, her husband Leslie Murray, two sisters Bessie McKelvey and Nina Jones, and two grandsons.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Open visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

James Brewer

James W. Brewer, 42, Webb City, Missouri passed away November 23, 2013 at his home.

James was born May 5, 1971, at Galena, Kansas, the son of James Brewer and Janet Canady. He was a Machinist CNC Operator.

Survivors are a son, Chester Owens, Joplin, MO; four grandchildren; his father, James Brewer; and two brothers, Ron Frazier, and Derick Brewer.

James will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

James Cupp

James Roland Cupp, 83, passed away at 5:29 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Joplin Health and Rehab. James was born December 10, 1929 in Carthage, MO, he was the son of Ivan Roscoe Cupp and Lela “Fern” Fenimore Cupp. James was born and raised in Carthage, returning to the Joplin area from California in 1969. He served in the National Guard. James was a truck driver for several years at Tri-State Motor Transit, Hilt Trucking and Bill Heisten Trucking. He also worked as a Body and Fender Man. 

James is survived by two sons, Clifford R. Cupp of Midland, TX and Bryan Lee Cupp of Joplin, one daughter, Janet Kay Kern of Joplin, one brother, Kenneth Cupp of Joplin and one sister Karen Joy Holman of Palo Alto, CA, 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

Memorial Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 at Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage.

Phyllis White

Phyllis Arlene White, age 63, Joplin, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at her home after a short illness.

Phyllis was born April 16, 1950 in Joplin to the late Harry White and Hazel Rickey White and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.

She owned and operated the State Line Flea Market on Highway 171 North of Asbury for several years. She sold the business in 2010 but has managed the business ever since. Prior to the flea market, she had worked in home health care for many years.

Phyllis was a people person and will be missed by all that knew her and by her family. She was a former member of the Church of Christ, 26th and Connecticut.

She is survived by a son, David Halliburton, Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Crystal Lowery, Oronogo; four grandchildren, Crystal, Haley, Amber, Hayden; one great granddaughter on the way, Lyric Arlene; and her aunt, Odie Patterson, Joplin.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Allen; and a sister, Charlotte.

Graveside services are planned for Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Denny Carver will officiate. Pallbearers will be J.D. Talley, Blake Talley, Mark Lowery, Nathan Hazley, Rob Elfrank and Eric Rickey. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary.

Jeffery Ritchhart

Jeffery Lane Ritchhart went home to be with the Lord 9:55 a.m. Monday November 25, 2013. 

The infant son of Travis and Amber Ritchhart. Jeffery is survived by his parents, five brothers Dalton, Waylon, Aiden, William, and Raymond, one sister Journey. His grandparents Dennis and Sara Ritchhart of Jasper, MO. Sandy Faulk of Webb City, MO, Larry Simpson of Jasper, MO Lavena Simpson of Clinton, MO. Raymond and Marnie Ritchhart of Carthage, MO and Evelyn Johnson Carthage, MO.

 Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 30, 2013 at Waters Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday November 29, 2013 at Kevin and Tresea Blades Home 4912 Deer Run Loop.

Patty Owen

Patty Jean Owen, age 74, Joplin, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.  

   Patty was born May 23, 1939 in Austin, Texas to the late Pat Perrin and Ima Jean Hill Perrin and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.     She worked at a travel agency; Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and alongside her husband in his painting contractor business as a corporate secretary for many years.  She retired in 1988.  Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling and playing Yahtze!  

   Patty was preceded in death by her first husband, Clark Wallace and her second husband, Donald Lee Owen, on March 1, 2010.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Vermillion.  

   Survivors include her children, GiGi Smith, Joplin, Dana Owen, Bella Vista, Arkansas, Dale Owen, Dallas, Texas, Randy Owen, Houston, Texas, Julie Cleveland, Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Bob Perrin, Joplin; grandchildren, Jennifer Arnold, Samantha Adams, Matt  Owen, Molly Owen, Justin Owen, Holly Owen, Garrett Owen, Mandy Owen, Sherri Buckles, Rusty Vermillion, Robbie Vermillion, Tina Cleveland, Scott Cleveland, Patrick Cleveland, Laura Cleveland, Benjamin Owen, Heather Owen, Nick Owen; many great grandchildren and  her beloved dog, Yogi Bear.  

   Services are planned for Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.  Pastor Larry Graham will officiate.  Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Blake Adams, Tim Smith, Josh Perrin, Matt Owen, Justin Owen and Garrett Owen.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Melton Thompson

Melton E. Thompson, Jr. age 55 of Webb City passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 6, 1958 in England to Melton Thompson, Sr. and Anna Joyce Roach Thompson. 

Melton was an electrical engineer, a counselor of children, and a member of the Christ Church of Oronogo. He was a Christian who loved the Lord and is on his way home.

 Melton married Betsy Robertson Thompson on December 31, 1999 and she survives at the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Kimberley Thompson of Webb City; son, Troy Thompson of Texas; mother, Joyce Thompson of Texas; sisters, Patricia Cook and Carolyn Clark both of Texas. Melton was preceded in death by his father, and a son, Tyler Thompson. He has been taken for cremation and no services will be held locally. 

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. 

Chad Carey

Chad S. Carey, age 42, formally of Webb City, MO, now of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in Saudi Arabia, where he was working. 

Chad was born November 23, 1971 in Joplin to Alan and Sherri Williams Carey. He was a 1990 Webb City High School Graduate. 

Chad married Amy Trail November 30, 1996 and she survives of the home. He is also survived by his children, Jacob and Katie Carey, Joshua McDaniel and Brianna Mischelle Naegle; a granddaughter, Nevaeh Marie Dwight; his mother, Sherri Carey; his brother, Brad Carey; paternal grandfather, William “Bill” Carey; maternal grandmother, Olive Bunch, nephews, Brayden and Zackary Carey, uncle Bill Carey of Kansas City; his aunts, Linda Cook, Brenda McKinley and Barbara Dunn as well as many cousins and a host of friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Alan Carey, grandmother, Phyllis Carey and his uncle, Mike Carey. 

Chad proudly and passionately served his country for 5 years in the United States Air Force.
He was a member of Church on the Rock in Goldsboro. 

Chad loved spending time with his children and working around the house. He was a kind hearted and loving person. He was a great father to his children and husband to his wife. He was a loyal friend and loved by many. Chad will greatly be missed. 

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. 

Robert Walker

Robert K. Walker, age 75 of Joplin, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home.

Born June 2, 1938 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Pug and Hazel Treadway Walker and lived in Joplin his lifetime. He was a 1955 graduate of Joplin High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army. He managed the former Porter Cadillac dealership and then owned and operated several of his own car lots. For the past 25 years, he worked for CNF Farms serving as Land Manager. Bob loved to play golf and was well known in the sport. He was also a former member of the Governor’s Mounted Guard.

He married Carol A. Yeakey Walker in May of 1985. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Gina Walker Noble of Stillwater, OK, Kelsa Brown and husband Rob of Omaha, NE; two stepdaughters, Tracy Borgmeyer and husband Brian of Joplin, Karen Brock and husband Darrell of Carl Junction; nine grandchildren, Chase Brown, Alec Eubanks, twins Branon and Bailee Brown, Lucy Borgmeyer, Braxton Noble, Ben Borgmeyer, Aidan Brock, Christian Brock, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Dick Walker.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors through Parker Mortuary.

Paul Lindeman

Paul Edward Lindeman was born April 3rd, 1928 to George and Mathilda Lindeman.

 One of six children, brothers Lawrence and Kenneth and sister Laverna preceded him in death; his brother Raymond and sister Norma Martin and husband Al survive. He married Bonnie Easton on Nov. 29, 1994; Bonnie survives. Paul was the father of two children, Howie Lindeman of Carthage, Kelli Stinebrook and husband Doug, and three stepsons, Ted, Howard, and Robert Easton; all survive. Additionally, he was the grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Chase, Cheyenne, Lindsay and Samantha Lindeman, Kaitlin Volland and husband Jeff, Abbi Dobbins and husband Lars, A.J. Stinebrook, 10 step-grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who also survive. One great-grandchild preceded him in death. He also leaves a multitude of family and long-time friends.

 Additionally, he earned the love and respect of the community. Paul proudly served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in the 1st Cavalry Division from 1950-1952 and was stationed in Korea and Japan. He retired in 1993 from the Missouri Highway Patrol after serving 37 years, the last 21 as Examiner Supervisor.

 Paul attended Lutheran churches most of his life, serving as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, organist, financial secretary, youth choir director, elder, and Congregation President. A passionate musician, he was a loyal member of SPEBSQSA for 38 years, performing with various barbershop choruses and carried the bass line for several quartets, most notably 2+2 4 Harmony; they performed hundreds of singing Valentines and were the Central States District Senior Quartet Champions in 2009. Paul performed with the Freistatt Spielers, Carthage Line Dance Club and Stone’s Throw Community Theatre where his favorite roles were in Carousel and Sugar.

 In addition to his childhood prowess on the violin and skill on the piano and organ, he played a mean Stumpf Fiddle. He has performed his last chorus and will now enjoy an eternal afterglow. Paul lived life well. Facing his mortality, he told his doctor, “I’ve had a great life. I can look myself in the eye when I shave and have a personal relationship with Jesus.” He found his happiness and will now enjoy the reward of his unwavering faith.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Karen Tate

Karen Elaine Camden Tate, age 67 of Seneca, MO, passed away at her home 1:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013.

Born June 27, 1946 in Champaign, IL, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Edna Banner Camden, and lived in the Joplin area since 1982. Karen received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She retired as a case worker with the Division of Family Services with 18 years of service. A member of Racine Christian Church, she served on the Missions Committee. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

On July 5, 1969 she married John Tate in Fisher, IL. He survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Justin Tate of Carl Junction, Jason Tate and wife Salena of Carl Junction; two daughters, Gina McGrew and husband John of Joplin, Carey Clawson and husband Daniel of Larkspur, CO; six grandchildren, Jack, Carter, Evalyn, Meredith, Grace and Sadie; a sister, Marolyn Fehr and husband Dick of St. Louis, MO; a brother, Ronald Camden of Chicago, IL; many extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with John St. Clair, minister officiating. The family will receive friends at Racine Christian Church from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday. At her request, the casket will remain closed at all times.

Carol Tetrick

Carol Lou Tetrick, 68, Neosho, died Nov. 22, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, following a sudden illness. Carol was born Jan. 22, 1945 in Fairmont, West VA and moved to the Neosho area five years ago from Fairmont. She worked on the assembly line of electronic manufacture and was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Neosho where she taught MPACT. 

Carol and Ronald Lee Tetrick were married on October 24, 1969 at Worthington, West VA and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2011. She is survived by two daughters, Dianna Shupp and Terri Casto; granddaughter, Casey Casto; two brothers, Clifford Paul Morgan, Fairmont, West VA and Christy Morgan, Ashtabula, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

 Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, 10 am at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Neosho, Rev. Ken Robinson will officiate. Interment will be in the Gibson Cemetery, Neosho. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Tuesday from 9 am until 6:30 pm and the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the funeral home.

Juanita Tusinger

Juanita M. Tusinger left this earth on November 23, 2013 and entered heaven’s gate to join her Heavenly Father, husband Charles, daughter, Melody and many beloved relatives.

Juanita was born on November 29, 1934, which was Thanksgiving Day at that time, to Frank and Anna Wallen in Humbolt, Kansas. She attended school in Humbolt and later moved to Joplin with her sister, Opal, and graduated from Joplin High School. She married Charles Tusinger on January 21, 1956. To this union was born 2 daughters, Charla and Melody. Juanita lived in Joplin until 1967 when she moved to Titusville, Florida, where she enjoyed the beautiful ocean and Florida living. She moved back to Missouri in 1973 and later to Muskogee, OK where she was a member of the Assembly of God church. Juanita was a Christian and is now enjoying walking on the streets of gold without her wheelchair. She loved and was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was always beautiful inside and out.

She loved cooking, gardening, feeding and watching birds. She loved writing poems, and doing crossword puzzles. She always made beautiful bouquets and shared them with people.

Juanita is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Billy Cravens. Grandsons Josh and wife Jamie Cravens, Pittsburg, KS; Matthew and wife Katie Cravens, Branson, Missouri. Great Granchildren: Cora, Jacob, Hayden and Ashton, Campton and Cole. One sister, Opal Massey, Sand Springs, OK; Brother-In-Law and wife Jack and Charlotte Tusinger, Carthage, MO and dearly loved nephews and nieces.

Juanita was preceded in death by Husband Charles, daughter, Melody, Parents, Frank and Anna Wallen , brother, Ed Wallen and sister Margarette Neptune.

Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 2:00 P. M. at Clark Chapel of Memories in Neosho, with Dr. James Hardwicke officiating. David Carey

David Lee Carey age 74 of Oronogo passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at his residence. He was born on July 15, 1939 to James F. Carey and Daisy Young Carey in St. Paul, Minnesota. David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oronogo, and was a heavy equipment operator. He loved to hunt and fish and do anything that had to do with the outdoors, spend time with his family, and let everyone know that God was number one in his life.

 David married Jean Tharp Carey on December 17, 1959 in Carthage, Missouri and they were just shy of celebrating 54 years together, she survives at the home. He is also survived by his sons, Bruce Wayne Carey of the home, James Richard Carey and wife Sherry of Carterville, Randy Franklin Carey and wife Julie of Neck City, Brian Andrew Carey and wife Brenda of Carl Junction; sister-in-law, Angela Hanna; sisters, Shirley McCurry of Tennessee, June Coonfare and husband Richard, Dianne Thump and husband Tom all of Montana; brother, William Patrick Carey and wife Vicky; brother-in-law, Robert Pearish; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

 Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Oronogo Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Verna Mae Brock, 89, died November 22, 2013 at Freeman Hospital, Neosho, MO. Verna was born July 30, 1924 in Marble City, AR to Obediah W. and Ethel E. (Odanel) Jackson. 

Verna was a homemaker and farmer. She lived most of her live in the Neosho, Mo area. She married Everett Ray Brock on January 1, 1942 in Neosho, MO. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2008. She was an avid fisherman, loved cooking , canning , gardening and spending time with her family. Especially spending time with her grandchildren. 

Verna is survived by three children: one son, Ted and Alicia Brock, Neosho, MO; two daughters: Linda and Bobby McCully, Carl Junction, MO and Tina & Robert Weber, Russellville, AR. Seven grandchildren and Twelve great-grandchildren. Six siblings: Bonnie Maniecza, MA; Mary Lou Motley, Independence, MO, Jim S. Jackson and Thomas Jackson of Ewards, MO, Bill Jackson, Blue Springs, MO and Lana Gayle Parker, Independence. MO. 

In addition to her husband and parents, Verna was preceded in death by two children, Donald Ray and Bobbie Jean . Three siblings: Garlin Jackson, Essie Keruspenski and Ola M. Martin. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Chapel of Memories, Neosho, MO, with Brother Larry Crawford, officiating. Interment will follow at Belfast Cemetery, west of Neosho. Pallbearers are James Jackson, Bill Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Michael Lee, Travis Shaver, Travis Hunter J. C. Smith and Joey Bogle. Frances Barnard

Frances J. Barnard, age 79 formerly of Joplin, Mo., died at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday November 20, 2013, at the Willow Care Nursing Home, Willow Springs, Mo., where she was currently residing.

Frances was born on May 7, 1934 in Joplin, the daughter of Jerry and Maude (Orr) Castell. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Willow Springs. Frances was a homemaker and spent her days loving and caring for her family. She also loved her church and enjoyed playing BINGO. Frances competed in the Golden Age Games where she won several medals. She loved to go shopping and cooking for residents of her apartment complex and most importantly, her most favorite thing to do was talk about her grandkids.

She married Lawrence Barnard on May 12, 1978 in Joplin, he preceded her in death. Survivors include six children; Richard Vicory of Mammoth Springs, Ar., Susan Batcheller of Seattle, Wa., Sharon Murch of Covington, La., Howard Vicory of Kirkland, Wa., Mike Rhine of Tracy, Ca. and Diane Peacock of Vacaville, Ca., four step-children; John Vaile of Carthage, Mo., Delilah Manual of Kileen, Tx., Dannal Treadwell of Pico Rivera, Ca., Sherry Larimore of Stafford, Va., two brothers; Lloyd Barnard of Galena, Ks., Floyd Barnard of Joplin, two sisters; Garnett O’Banion and Connie Coleman both of Joplin, twenty-two grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Frances was also preceded in death by one step-daughter; Geraldine Shank, one brother and five sisters.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Mason-Woodard. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Anna Belle Brown

Anna Belle Brown, age 90 of Joplin, Mo. passed to be with her husband; Lewis Earl Brown, who preceded her on August 7, 1982.

Born, Anna Belle Daniels, January 2, 1923, to Fay and Ruth (McReynolds) Daniels in Racine, Mo. After her parents passing, Anna, went to live with one of her half sisters, Pauline Shank and her husband Pete Shank of Shank Farms in Diamond, Mo. Anna was the last of her family which included one sister, two brothers, four half sisters and one half brother. Anna was a lifetime area resident, she was a member of Community Chapel Church in Joplin and was a housewife with three sons.

Survivors include her sons; Larry Brown of Shawnee Mission, Ks., Lonny Brown of Joplin, and Kenny Brown of Coffeyville, Ks., three grandsons and four great-grandsons.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Granby Cemetery in Granby, Mo., Roger Hasselquist, Minister, will officiate.

Kenny Kingrey

Kenneth (Kenny) Roy Kingrey passed away November 21, 2013. He was born in Joplin, November 20, 1934 to Fred Ray Kingrey and Agnes Stewart Kingrey. He was retired from Mid-Western Machinery where he worked for 30 years. He worked 18 years for Jasper County Title Company right after graduating from Joplin High School.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Madolyn Parker; father-in-law, Carl Parker; four brothers, Billy Kingrey, Robert Kingrey, Richard Kingrey, Donald Kingrey; brother-in-law, Ernest Richey; and nephews, Johnny R. Richey.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Kingrey. Other survivors include one sister, Lois Jones of Joplin; two sons, David Brooks and Bev Vallejo of Kansas City, KS, Tom Brooks and wife Beth of Carthage; sister-in-law, Joyce Richey of Farmington, MO.

Grandchildren are April Smith and Travis Smith, Chad Brooks and wife Chelsie, Cherona Hicklin and husband Robin, Tara Brooks and Isaac Fritchey, Lindsey Olds and husband Justin, Sarah Massey and husband Zach, and Hank DePriest.

Great-grandchildren include Dominic Smith and Maleigha Calhoun, Devin Smith, Dymiree Smith, Dayleigh Smith, Cashé Simmons, Chase Brooks, Chesney Brooks, Hadley Hicklin, Carson Hicklin, Case Fritchey, Myles Cochran, Damon Cochran and Gunner Massey; one great-great-grandchild, Kingston Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with visitation Tuesday, Nov. 26th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

Kenny was a 47-year member of Joplin Elks Lodge No. 501 and an avid bowler from 1971 to 2005.

He was a wonderful husband, father and granddad. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Melody Ackerson

Melody Sue Ackerson, 56, went to be home with her Lord Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.

Melody was born to the late James and Barbara Welch Ackerson on July 20, 1957 in Joplin, Missouri where she had lived most of her life.

Melody was a people person, always greeting you with a smile and willing to help in any way possible. She used those great skills while working at the Lafayette House in Joplin as well as Joplin Cab Company. She was also a member of Journey Church in Joplin, Missouri.

Additional survivors include daughter, Shana Miller, Joplin; son, Lonnie Joel Miller, Joplin; sister, Marsha Atwood, Webb City, Missouri; brother, Darrell Ackerson, Joplin. Also grandchildren, Damian and Dominique Miller; former spouse, Lonnie Miller, Joplin; several extended family and great friends as well.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Journey Church to celebrate Melody's life.

Jean Rose

Jean R. Rose, age 88, Alba, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 7, 1925 in Webb City, Mo. to Roy and Dot McAboy. Jean was a lifetime Alba, Mo. resident. She was a co-founder of Bill Rose Pump Service. She was also employed for 19 years with Tri State Motor Transit as an executive secretary. Jean graduated from Webb City High School and attended Joplin Business School. She was a member of the Alba Christian Church.

She married Bill Rose on March 27, 1948 in Joplin, Mo., and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Russell McAboy and Loren McAboy.

Jean is survived by two sons, Kevin Rose and wife Cheryl, Jasper, Mo., Mark Rose, Alba, Mo.; one daughter, Nancy Hoffmann and husband John, Joplin, Mo.; four grandchildren, Regan and Rachelle Rose, Lauren and Christian Hoffmann and one step grandson Vincent Estes.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday November 26, 2013 at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home with Roger Hasselquist officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Charles Captain

Charles “Dan” Captain age 66, rural Seneca, Mo passed away Monday November 18, 2013 following a short illness.

He was born December 7, 1946 in Miami, Ok. to Charles T. and Sarah Belle Thornbrugh Captain.

Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1989 as an Aviation Electronics Technician. Upon retirement he became a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. After returning to Southwest Missouri he became the General Manager of Border Town Bingo and Casino for 17 years. During this time he also held the elected positions of First Council Person and Second Chief for the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. He attended Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.

He married Pamela Jo Gettys on December 1, 1969 in Miami, Ok and she survives. To this union three children were born. He is survived by his two sons; Charles Matthew Captain and wife Natalie of Hicksville Ohio, Jason Captain of Ft. Worth, Texas; one daughter Sarah Wallace and husband Jay of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles Daniel Captain II, Emily Brooke Captain, Garrett Connor Daffron, and Riley Anthony Captain; one sister Velva Jean Kelley and husband Leon Littleton; two nephews Danny Lee Triplett and wife Tina, John Ervin and wife Karen, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. and Sarah Captain, along with his sister Belva Jane Triplett.

Ferrell Semler

E. Ferrell Semler, age 80, formerly of Joplin, went home to the Lord, on Tuesday November 19, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ferrell was born on August 12, 1933 in Concord, NC, the daughter of the late Ernest and Edna (Bissell) Measimer. She married Jerry Semler on August 18, 1955, in Findlay, Ohio. Together they raised three children, making their home in Joplin. She was a devoted member of the Pentecostal Church of God, which headquartered in Joplin. She worked as the editor/writer for the Pentecostal Church Magazine, retiring in 1977. She then worked several years for Commerce Bank. She and her husband then moved to Tulsa, Ok. Ferrell served as an Ordained Minister for sixty years. She was active in nursing home ministries, mission trips, prison ministries and numerous church activities. She was an avid supporter of “Jews for Jesus” and “Bridges For Peace”. She enjoyed reading, writing and caring for her family.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Jerry Semler, Tulsa, OK.; three children, Dennis Semler and wife Kathy, Tulsa, OK, Julie Monaco and husband Steve, near Loveland, CO., and Dwight J. Semler and wife Jennifer, Wheaton, IL.; one brother, Billy Measimer and wife Margie, Rock Hill, SC.; two sisters, Delores Reddick, Toledo, OH., and Ellen Papa and husband Bob, Middlesex, NJ.; five grandchildren, Kylie Skiles and husband Terry, Matthew Semler and wife Colleen, Lyndsay McNeer and husband Brian, Meghan and Connor Scanlan; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Rev. Bob Papa and Rev. Paul Dilts will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to “Prisoner’s Webb’ Prison Ministry in care of the mortuary.

Jacquelyn Williams

Jacquelyn E.K. Amen-Williams, 79, passed away November 8, 2013 in Carthage, Missouri.

 Jacquelyn was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Jacob Amen Jr. and Doris (Johnson) Amen. She was a Homemaker, then a CMA in Arizona, then a dispatcher for Maricopa County police department, Arizona. Jacquelyn was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She lived in Carthage off and on over the past 20 years.

 Jacquelyn was united in marriage to George Williams in 1987 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He preceded her in death. Jacquelyn is survived by son, Darrel Isaacs, Jr and wife Tomoko of Overland Park, Kansas, four daughters Daryla Isaacs and husband Michael Lobush of Lincoln, NE, Wanda Park and husband Dave of Kansas City, Missouri, Peggy Isaacs of Austin, Texas, and Debbie Mead and husband Lee of Bloomington, Illinois; Thirteen grandchildren: Christopher and Alisa Isaacs, Ashley, Kara and Andrew Martin, Melissa Swindler and husband Chad, Michael Park, Greg, Matthew and Jonathan Pence, Shannon Cary, Ursula Urlauskas, Jason Fowler and 15 great grandchildren. Jacquelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald Amen and recently one daughter Pam Isaacs on August 28, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mary Anna Pflug, age 84, formerly of Joplin, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Ozark Nursing and Care Center, Ozark, Missouri.

Mary was born June 16, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Frederick Pflug and Norma Nix Pflug.
She was a homemaker.

Mary is survived by two sons, Mark Patrick, Clever, Missouri, Chris Patrick, Cape Fair, Missouri; a daughter, Becky Spence, Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several brothers.
Graveside services are planned for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Hosea Bilyeu will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 1-2:00p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Judy Lane

Judy Lane, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior 10:46 p.m. Thursday November 14, 2013 at Mercy McCune Brooks Hospital Carthage, MO.

 Judy was born July 17, 1940 in Winchester, Kansas to Roger Benson and Genevieve “Schwinn” Benson. Judy was a Homemaker and was a member of the Covenant World Outreach Church. She was in the ministry of encouragement in sending sympathy cards to the entire area, she was known as “The Card Lady”. Judy was formerly married to Robert “Bob” Lane in Topeka, Kansas he survives.

 Judy is survived by her step-mom Helen Benson of Mayetta, KS. One daughter Debbie Lane of Absecon, NJ, two sons Lowell Lane and his wife Laura of Carthage, MO and Robin Lane of Clarksdale, MS. Seven grandchildren Matthew Lane, Emily Lane, Michael Lane, Amy Lane, Jason Bevitt, Justin Bevitt, Jacquelyn McFarland, four great grandchildren Jaysen, Ashlynn and Brayden Bevitt and Jackson MCFarland. One step-sister Pam Danley, two step-brothers Ira Beasterfield and Ray Beasterfield. Judy was preceded by her parents and one brother Bobby Benson.

Virginia Glover

Virginia Ruth Campbell Harper-Glover was born March 17, 1924 to Emma and Clyde Campbell near Greenfield, Missouri in Dade County.

She passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home at the age of 89 on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Harper of Greenfield; and her second husband, Jim Glover of Joplin. She was the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters who have also preceded her in death. They are Joe and Leona Campbell, Bill and Lila Campbell, Rusty and Marguerite Campbell, Roberta and Ed Owens, Lewis Montgomery and an infant brother.

She is survived by two sons, David Harper and his wife, Zola, Springfield, Bill Harper and his wife, Alice, Joplin; four grandchildren, Mary Wetherell and her children, Michael and Amanda Wetherell, Billie Harper and her children, Kori and Hailey Harper, Lee Harper and his children, Jesse, Heaven and Harley Harper, Joshua Harper and his wife, Stephanie and their children, Noah, Elizabeth, Andrew and Stephan Harper; two step sons, Ricky Glover and John Glover and family; and many nieces; nephews and cousins.

She came from and married into a large family. Family was the most important thing to her. She was proud to be raised in a Christian home and strove to install Christian values into her own family.

Virginia was a graduate of Greenfield High School. She was employed by the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas for several years. She then worked for Butternut Bread and retired after 20 years of service. She was a founding member of the Southwest Missouri Arthritis Association and a longtime member of Ruth Chapter #177, Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Iron Gates Christian Church, Joplin.

Services are planned for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Olive Church, North, Missouri. Larry Wheeler will officiate. Interment will follow immediately after at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harlan Campbell, Brad Campbell, Kerry Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Darrell Dodd, Wesley Dodd, Josh Harper and Michael Wetherell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Wetherell and Josh Harper. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Johnny Dehr

Johnny Lee Dehr, 65, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Promise Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, KS.

Johnny was born February 23, 1948 in Amarillo, TX, to Bert and Violet Moore Dehr. He was a CNC operator for machine manufacturing. Johnny married Laura Chance on November 26, 1965 in Garden City, KS.

Surviving are his wife, Laura, Inman, KS and a daughter, Tracy Reeder, Joplin, MO.

Eloise Carr

Eloise Carr, age 83, formerly of Joplin, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 in Rogers, Arkansas. She was born on June 5th, 1930 in Richey, Missouri, the daughter of the late Nora and William Allen Curtis.

Eloise resided in Baxter Springs, Kansas for 35 years where she was a faithful member of the Baxter Springs Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Baxter Springs Country Club and Joplin Golf Club at Schifferdecker, where she played golf for many years. In addition, she was a lifelong member of the Joplin Woman’s Club and played bridge as often as she could. After moving to Joplin, she became a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Eloise married Robert H. Carr on March 25, 1956 in Galena, Kansas and supported him in his many business ventures during their 52 year marriage. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2008. The family takes comfort in knowing that they will once again be re-united under God’s loving care.

“Ellie” will always be remembered as wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and leaves behind a daughter, Saundra L. Carr and partner Stan Cooper of Seneca; one son, Robert H. Carr II and his wife Kimberly of Rogers; three grandchildren, Caleb Carr, Taylor Carr, and Gracie Carr; siblings, Bill Curtis and wife Rusty, Lewiston, Idaho; Jim Curtis and wife, Inga, Lostine, Idaho; Carl Curtis and wife Margaret, Pocatello, Idaho; Cathy Huddleston, Meridian, Idaho; Jane Curtis, Boise, Idaho; and Grace Plant and her husband Al, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Neil Curtis.

Services are planned for Friday at 2:00pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin. Entombment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Dwight Stanley

Dwight James Stanley, Sr., age 56 of Carterville passed away on Sunday November 17, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after a sudden illness. 

He was born on February 27, 1957 in Joplin, Missouri to Lincoln Stanley and Nelva Gibson Stanley. Dwight was a contractor in the construction business for most of his life. He loved to spend time with his family and was a great friend to anyone he knew. Dwight had an open door policy at this house and would help anyone he could to the best of his ability. He will be remember as a man with a huge heart.

 Dwight is survived by his daughters, Britni Stanley and fiancé Tony Vickers of Webb City, Stephanie Stanley of Webb City, Tiffany Stanley of Carthage; sons, Dwight Stanley, Jr. of Granby, Shawn Wright of Joplin; brothers, Doyle Stanley and wife Carol of Riverton, Kansas, David Stanley of Joplin; sister, Sue Bertrand and husband Mike of Carterville; and 13 grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Carterville Cemetery. Gregory Miller

Gregory Joel Miller, 62, Joplin, passed away at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, following an illness.

Greg was born May 19, 1951, in California to the late Joseph Miller and Georgia Miller Healy.

He worked in management in the restaurant and retail industry for several years and retired due to ill health. He loved animals and the outdoors. He enjoyed talking on his CB radio and was a veteran of the United States Army. Greg loved the Lord and was a faithful member of College Heights Christian Church.

He married Vicky Vermillion in Joplin in 1982. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his children, Christina Bosch and Joseph Townsend, both of Washington; siblings, Kathy Stevens, Casey Healy, and Patrick Healy; grandchildren, Anthony, Tyler, and Robyn; great-grandchild Jayden; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Gates; one brother, Bruce Miller, and a stepfather John Healy.

Services are planned for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at College Heights Christian Church. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to College Heights Christian Church.

Thelma Mitchell

Thelma Leona Mitchell, 92, Neosho, passed away at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.

Thelma was born December 13, 1920, in Slick, Oklahoma, to the late Henry Orr and Harvey Bell Orr and had lived in the Joplin area for the past 12 years.

A homemaker, she was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting.

Her husband, Everett Mitchell, preceded her in death in May of 1976.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Virgil Mitchell; a grandson, Robert Bateson; and a great-grandson, Abraham Koury.

Survivors include a son, Danny Mitchell and his wife, Karen, Neosho; one sister, Betty Jo Alloway and her husband, Mel, Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are planned for Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma.
