Howard Gray

Howard Bruce Gray, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday. August 29, 2018 at his home.

Howard was born February 11, 1930 in Carthage, Missouri, son of the late Lawrence E. Gray and Muriel Booth Gray. He graduated from Carl Junction High School, and then served in the United States Navy, spending time on the Bonhomme Richard.

He worked as a precision welder for several companies in California before returning to Joplin in 1985 to help care for his mother. He was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church, and the V.F.W. Post #534, Earl J. Bruton.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Lucia Gray, who died January 20, 2016, and his siblings, Larry Gray, NaDeane Gray Kissinger, Dewey Gray, and Miriam Mills.

Survivors include Maria's children, Julio Navarro of Tampa, Florida, Olga Hefner and husband David of Anaheim, California, grandchildren, Anna, Sofi, Diego, and Julio, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Marisabel Navarro of Tampa; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Marie Napier and husband Joe of Grand Prairie, Texas, Grace Leader of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Rob Mills and wife Gale of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Greg Mills and wife Myrna of Kansas City, Kansas, Ron Mills and wife Isabell of Amity, Oregon, and Jack Mills and wife Julie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and numerous other extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Harmony Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Burnett officiating.

Inurnment of his ashes will be by family at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Marjorie Walmsley

Marjorie A. Walmsley, age 78, Joplin, passed away at 7:13 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Mercy Hospital.

Marjorie was born June 1, 1940 in Marceline, Missouri to the late Howard H. Johnson and Lillie Belle Foster Johnson and had lived in Joplin most of her life.

She had worked at the former First National Mercantile Bank, Fleming Foods, Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson and the Route 66 Movie Theatre in Webb City. Marjorie also owned and operated the Stitchery Do for five years. She enjoyed cross-stitch and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, William, on June 8, 2013.

Survivors include her son, Michael, Joplin; a brother, Donald Johnson, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire; and many special friends, including Nancy Hutson, Gwynn Grady, Donna Creed and Barbara Smith. She had a passion for soft coated Wheaton Terrier‘s and her two beautiful babies, Kalie and Kelcie, will miss her.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to S'Wheat Rescues, 10101 E. State Rt. 150, Kansas City, Missouri, 64149.

Bobby Key

Bobby Ray Key (89) longtime minister and resident of Miami, OK., passed from
this life August 28,2018 at the home of his son in Broken Arrow, OK.

He was born June 4, 1929 in Hamby, Tx to E.A. and Gladys (Ray) Key. He
attended the country school in Hamby, then Abilene Christian High School.

On July 3, 1947 he married Wyvonne Gooch with whom he shared 57 years of
love and devotion until her death on July 5, 2004. The couple was blessed with three
children, Vivian, Dalton, and David.

Bobby spent his life ministering and sharing the gospel throughout the country.
He preached in most of the 50 states, as well as editing the Four State Gospel News for
over 40 years. He began preaching for the Miami Church of Christ in 1957 and he
continued his relationship with that congregation until moving to Broken Arrow in
October, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wyvonne, one brother,
Lyndon, and his brother-in-law, Lowell Maxey.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Ron Stough of
Duncan, OK; son and daughter-in-law Dalton and Bonita Key of Broken Arrow, Ok; and
son and daughter-in-law David and Cathy Key of Victoria, Tx. He is also survived by
grandchildren: Jeremy and Kara Stough, Ben and Nikki Key, Jamie and Marc Clayton,
and Kristin Key; as well as great grandchildren Morgan Key, Cailynn and Brylee
Clayton, Kylie Stough, and Kameron and Carson Kisselburg, and two sisters, Jane (Bob)
Hancock and Ebb Maxey, and one brother Jim (RuthAnn) Key.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018. at the Miami Church of Christ. Don Deffenbaugh, Ron Stough, Jim Key and Dalton Key will officiate. Interment will follow in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Marc Clayton, Jeremy Stough, Benjamin Key, Kameron Kisselburg, Jim Key and Douglas Key will serve as pallbearers. Irma Hulsey

Irma Ruth Hulsey, 95, Neosho, passed away on August 30, 2018 after a short illness.
Irma was born December 8, 1922 in Carterville, MO to Curtis Lee and Katherine (Watkins) Hulsey and was a lifelong area resident, graduating NHS in 1940. She had worked for Browning Furniture and Rocketdyne before becoming a bookkeeper for Branham Bros. Construction, from which position she retired in 1986.
Irma was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, did needle work, and loved to travel.

Irma is survived by two sisters-in-law, Loydene Hulsey and Lena Hulsey; numerous nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill Hulsey, Jack Hulsey, and Bob Hulsey; one sister, George Ann Hulsey; and one nephew, Roger Hulsey.

Graveside services will be held 10 am Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Neosho IOOF Cemetery; Pastor Jason Abbott will officiate. Irma’s nephews will honor her by serving as pallbearers.

Betty Newberry

Betty Newberry, age 83 of Joplin, Missouri formerly of Neosho, Missouri passed away August 30, 2018.

She was born February 1, 1935 in Springfield, Missouri to Clarence and Lula McGrath.

Betty had lived in the area for over 15 years. She had worked at the former Safeway Bakery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Karolyn Sue Newberry, one brother and two sisters.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Joyce Southard, one grandson, Nick Rodzwiz, one brother and two sisters.

No formal services are planned.

Marvin Haase

Marvin C. Haase passed away on August 28, 2018 at home while watching his beloved Cardinals.

Marvin was born November 26, 1930 in Joplin to the late Max H. and Minnie Studyvin Haase. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Delmar Haase, Max Haase II; and sister, Martha Daggett and Annabelle Sill.

Marvin and Thelma Joy Sadler were married August 15, 1951. To this union were born, Kathleen McCracken and husband, David, Debra Kennedy and husband, Chuck, Mark Haase and wife, Dana. Thelma passed away on October 15, 1999.

Marvin married Nadine (Billie) Spears on November 25, 2000. She survives. With the marriage, Marvin gained three daughters, Cynthia Hood, Carolyn Spears and husband, Gary Parker, and the late Mary Roche.

Marvin graduated from Joplin High School in 1949. He started his career as a third generation electrician on January 15, 1950 by joining I.B.E.W. Local #95. Over the years, he taught many apprentice electricians through Local #95, including his grandson, Ryan McCracken.

Marvin worked as a master electrician for 20 years at Industrial Electric in Joplin. He was hired at F.A.G. Bearings in Joplin in February of 1970, becoming the second American employee. He retired as supervisor of electricians and maintenance in 1993.

Marvin attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Joplin. He was a member of Elk's Lodge #501 for many years. Marvin served in the Missouri National Guard from 1948 until 1962, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant E8.

In addition to his wife and children, Marvin is survived by a sister, Darlene LaGasse; grandchildren, Ryan McCracken, Jason McCracken, Holly Ansley, Tyler Haase, Lucas Kennedy, Baker Bibb, Stephanie Allen, William Roche, Katelyn Roche, Madeline Parker; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren with another due in November and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are planned for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Joe Borland

Joe T. Borland, 75, passed into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home in Carthage, MO. Joe was born November 17, 1942 in Appleton City, MO to Virgil and Constance “Chitwood” Borland.

Joe lived in Carthage all his life, served four years in the United States Air Force and worked for over 30 years at Atlas / I.C.I.
Joe was united in marriage to Melva “Jordan” on September 5, 1964 in Carthage; she survives. To their union, three children were born, Kevin Borland (Steph) and twin daughters Tammy Borland Chairez and Shelly Borland Root (Wes).

Joe is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chance Borland (Allie), Chase Borland, Chelsa Borland, Garrett Roberts, Kelsie Roberts, Kole Borland (Yahaira Hernandez), and Jordan Chairez; seven great grandchildren, Cayden, Benten, Ahkilleus and Ares Borland, Rhyder Dumas, Sayler Briggs and Versace Beckner; two brothers, Glen Borland and Gary Borland (Pam); one sister, Nadine Smith; in-laws from North Carolina and Florida; sister-in-law Marilyn Swanger and Family.

Joe also leaves behind his special golf buddies and a lot of good friends. Joe was a great golfer and loved the game along with his brothers, which were all inducted into the Joplin Golf Hall of Fame.

Joe was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dress for both is casual. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage.

Pauline Denayer

Pauline B. “Russow” Denayer, 96, passed away August 28, 2018 at St. Luke’s in Carthage. Pauline was born November 6, 1921 in Bentonville, AR to Daniel and Sally Belle “Ford” Russow. Pauline recently lived in Webb City, but was a longtime resident of Carthage, and a homemaker. She was a member of Kendricktown Methodist Church and loved sewing, gardening, crafts and reading.

Pauline was united in marriage to Virgel Denayer on August 12, 1963 at Carthage First Christian Church; he preceded her in death November 7, 2010.

Pauline is survived by three sons, Dale Hamilton (Marie) and Roy Hamilton, both of Carthage and David Chrisman of Joplin; five daughters, Kathryn Smith (Don) of Carthage, Donna Baker (Wayne) of Carterville, Phyllis Talley of Carthage, Barbara Hunziker (Greg) of Joplin and Connie Chrisman of Joplin. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Pauline was preceded in death by two daughters, Carolyn Brewer and Susie Nally; four brothers, her twin Paul Russow, Charles Russow, John Russow and Obie Russow; five sisters, twins Mary Pendergraft and Martha Davis, Rosie Daron, Gladys Brooks, Dorothy Clark, Cindy Schribner and Elva Fansler (a twin of Obie).

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage.

Orvil Patton

Orvil O. Patton of Miami, OK passed from this life Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home. He was 91.

Orvil was born February 13, 1927 in Ottawa County, OK to Albert Leslie and Hannah (Utter) Patton. Orvil served in the U.S. Army with occupation forces in Korea. He had lived in Ottawa County most of his life and was a member of the Peoria Assembly of God Church in Peoria, OK. Orvil was a crusher operator for American Tripoli in Seneca, MO.

Orvil was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers Ben, Ray, John, Steve and Virgil Patton and 3 sisters Norma Williams, Esther Tucker and Edith Lawson.

He married Marjorie Ann (George) Patton November 6, 1954 and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include his son Arnold Patton and wife Joyce of Miami, OK, 2 daughers Gayle Graham and husband Gerald of Wyandotte, OK and Keila Dewey of the home, his brother Max Patton of Bartlesville, OK,8 grandchildren Arik Barnes, April Barnes, Arin Barrera, Melissa Seay, Michelle Perez, Jimmy Osburn, Mark Osburn and Crystal Osburn, 17 great grandchildren Tyler Barnes, Kaleb Overton, Ashton Ladbasri, Ethan Barnes, Alex Davis, Aspen Davis, Kobe Barnes, Anthony Barrera, Arianna Barrera, Mackenzie Seay, Zackary Seay, Kade Perez, Kali Perez, Kira Perez, Kase Perez, Tyler Osburn and Maddison Osburn.

Lewis Shannon Boan, 57 of Neosho, Missouri passed away August 23, 2018 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born May 1, 1961 in Emporia, Kansas to Larry Leon and Betty Marie (Landers) Boan. Lewis was a truck driver and worked for Asbell Trucking and Excavation.

Lewis is survived by his mother, Betty Epperson of Morgan, Texas. His fiancée, Marcia Heifner of Neosho, Missouri. One son, Kory Boan of Joplin, Missouri One stepson to be, Brad Heifner of Neosho, Missouri. Two brothers, Skeeter (Sherrie)Boan and Jeep Boan. Two sisters, Tina (Richard) Fitzgerald and Tracey (Mike) Kenyon. 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11:00 A.M.. at Paradise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M.,Friday, August 31, 2018 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, Missouri.

Nancy Embrey

Nancy Anne Embrey, 80, Neosho, entered into rest at her home in Neosho, on Aug. 29, 2018, surrounded by her family, following a short illness. 

 Nancy was born Aug. 29, 1938 in Neosho, the daughter of Harvey and Marie (Gilmore) Daniels and was a lifelong area resident. Nancy had owned and operated a beauty shop, ‘Nancy’s Beauty Salon’; she was a floral designer at Neosho Floral and had owned and operated Hawaiian Tropical Snow for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, gardening and enjoyed all of the young customers she met while owning Hawaiian Tropical Snow. She was a member of the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ. 

Nancy and Lee N. Embrey were married on May 18, 1957 in Neosho and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2012. She is survived by four children, Mark Embrey and wife, Cindy of Neosho; Steve Embrey and wife, Lisa of Rogers, AR; Vicki Lazure and husband, Dan of Neosho and Sandi Poage of Neosho; two brothers, Kenneth Daniels and wife, Glenda of Neosho and Don Daniels and wife, Jean of Muldrow, OK; two sisters, Elin Finley and husband, Phil of Neosho and Alice Williams and husband, Merlin of Burlington, KS; fifteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jody Embrey and brother, Bill Daniels. Services will be Sat., Sept. 1, 2018 at 2 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Interment will follow in the Dice Cemetery, Fairview. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Juanita Richards

Juanita M. Richards, age 72, of Sarcoxie, Mo. passed away at 9:54 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Joplin. Juanita was born May 4, 1946 in rural Carthage, Mo, and had lived in the Carthage area all her life. Juanita worked for Schreiber Foods in Carthage for 38 years, retiring in 2013. She was a member of Diamond Grove Christian Church, and active with the Women’s Ministry.

Juanita married Carlos Richards August 13, 1964 in Springfield, Mo. and he survives. Additional survivors include a son, Michael Richards (Susan), Sarcoxie, Mo., a brother, Hyrl Lown (Janice), Carthage, Mo., a sister, Alice Hammond (George), Carthage, Mo., 7 grandchildren; Colton and Cassidy Richards, Matthew and Makayla Borders, Logan Vaughan, and Joel and Stephanie Goettel, and one great granddaughter Arya Borders and a great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Goettel, and her parents, Bill and Wanda Lown.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Kurt Fluharty, and Bob Heath, Ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fidelity Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.

Bill Luellen

William ‘Bill’ C. Luellen was born March 17, 1946 in Fairfax, Missouri, the son of Sive and Evelyn (Perkins) Luellen.

 
He entered into rest on August 27, 2018 in Neosho, following an illness, at the age of 72.
Bill moved to the Neosho area in 1981 from Fairfax and had worked as a road grader and then was a driver for G and H Concrete until his retirement. 

 
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid reader and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He attended the Assembly of God Church. 

 
Bill is survived by his companion, Donetta Dunn of Neosho; six children, William J. Luellen of Granby; Shawn Stillions of Choteau, OK; Angie Fleer of St. Louise, Denise Dunn of Springfield, Kevin Dunn of Branson and Phillip Dunn of Neosho; one brother, Jack Luellen of Anderson and one sister, Becky Friend of Neosho; ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation services will be Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home. Following visitation, Bill will be taken for cremation.

Joy Johnson

Joy (Green) Johnson, 87, of Monett went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Monday August 27, 2018 while at her home in Monett. She was born in Great Bend, Kansas on January 9, 1931; the daughter of the late Walter Elmo and Venice (Kitterman) Batman. She was united in marriage in St. Louis, Missouri on September 23, 1947 to B.C. Green; he preceded her in death on June 30, 1987. She was later married to Billy Johnson on June 3, 2005; he preceded her on December 22, 2007.

She was a bookkeeper for Ramey Supermarket in Monett, was a Charter member of the Monett Church of the Nazarene in Monett, received the Distinguished Service Award from her church in 1979 and received highest honor in “Teachers Training Diploma” in 1982.

Joy is survived by one son Robert Green of Monett; one daughter: Leatrice Strother and her husband Ron of Purdy; one sister: Gladys Faye Davis of Noel; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Venice, husbands B.C. and Billy; and four sisters: Marvella Balmas, Dorothy Fleming, Emily Call and Hilda Batman.

Visitation for Joy is being held on Thursday August 30, 2018 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri. Funeral services are being held on Friday August 31, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett, Missouri. Burial will follow services at the Calton Cemetery in Pleasant Ridge, Missouri.

Minerva Chester

Minerva L. Chester, 93, Goodman, entered into rest on August 28, 2018 at Medicalodge in Neosho, following an extended illness.

 
Minerva was born October 11, 1924 in the community of Splitlog, McDonald County, Missouri. She was a lifelong McDonald County resident and had worked at Buddy L, Sunbeam and Neosho Products. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling with her husband on the pipeline, going to Hot Springs to the horseraces and going to Branson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Goodman.
Minerva and John Henry Chester were married on May 24, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 2005. 

 
She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Gorham of Joplin; three grandchildren, Adana Macy, Lorri Cole and Dusty Gorham; ten great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Eads and wife, Ruth Ann of Grove, OK; Glenn Eads of Goodman; two sisters, Hattie Mae Bonebrake and husband, Tom of Webb City and Beatrice ‘Bea’ Barnes of Goodman.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Isla Faye Landon and son in law, Chub Gorham.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, September 1 from 9 am until service time, at which time the casket will be closed.

Gregg Whitsett

Gregg O. Whitsett, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his home.

Gregg was born March 15, 1933 in Joplin, son of the late Oren and Leota (Stafford) Whitsett. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1951, and attended Joplin Junior College before serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned from his service, and operated Whitsett Marine until 1982, at that time he went to work for Gus Shaffer Ford in the service department as a service writer until retiring in 1998. He then worked for Kenny Neal Ford, and Jay Hatfield Ford of Sarcoxie in their service department.

Gregg was an active member of Park Plaza Christian Church for years. He was also a member of the Missouri Southern Lionbackers, the Joplin Elks - where he was a lifetime member, and he was a charter member of the Three State Family Boat Club, where he enjoyed all aspects of the club, the boats, fishing, skiing, and especially making many friends over the years.

Gregg was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved trips to Silver Dollar City, both shows and watching the crafts, and traveling with his family. He visited Las Vegas, took cruises to Alaska, and other islands, and enjoyed attending NASCAR races.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Whisett.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Patsy Jo Whitsett; son, Gregg A. Whitsett and wife Shannon of Joplin; daughter, Cyndee Roberts of Las Vegas; step sons, Tony Green of Joplin, and Paul Green of Las Vegas; eight grandsons, Brandon, Derick, Dustin, and Jordan Roberts all of Las Vegas; Caleb, Josiah, and Noah Whitsett of Joplin, and Adam Whitsett and wife Macy of Overland Park, Kansas: granddaughter, Rebecca Whitsett of Joplin; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, August, 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church with Pastor B.A. Austin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gregg's church.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

The family also wishes to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff, and Dr. Miller at the Freeman Institute for Cancer, and the team at Avalon Hospice for all their help.

Leonard Doss

Leonard I. Doss, age 73, Carl Junction, passed away at 6:40 p.m. Sunday at Freeman West Hospital.

Leonard was born March 31, 1945 in Walla Walla, Washington to the late Kenneth I. Doss and Freda Woods Doss and had lived in the Joplin area all of his life.

Leonard worked in the restaurant and grocery supply business for most of his adult working life. He had worked at the original Fred and Red's Cafe, Milgrim Grocery, Piggly Wiggly, Schifferdecker Golf Course and Feerick Candy Company. He worked fourteen years as a distributor for Pepperidge Farms and had most recently worked for Champion Feed Store.

He loved sports. Leonard played fast pitch softball for years and was an accomplished pitcher. He was a longtime member and past treasurer of the Schifferdecker Golf Course. In 2010, Leonard was inducted to the Joplin Sports Hall of Fame and is best known for his 307 yard hole-in-one on Schifferdecker's hole #16. Some say it is a feat that may never happen again.

Leonard loved the Lord. He was a former member and elder at College Heights Christian Church and current member at Christ's Church of Oronogo. He loved his family with all his heart and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Leonard married Carol Asbell Kollmeyer on February 25, 2009 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Kevin Doss, Orange, Texas, Darrell Doss and wife, Sarah, Lamar; a stepson, Kevin Kollmeyer and wife, Minnie, Carthage; a stepdaughter, Christina Chartier and husband, Brian, Jasper; three brothers, Fred Doss, Joplin, Denny Doss, Wichita, Kansas, David Doss, Baxter Springs; sister, Judy McDaniel and husband, Eddie, Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Hallee and Jaycee; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Christ's Church of Oronogo. Darrell Doss, Ken Ansley and B.A. Austin, ministers, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time Saturday at the church.

Dorothy Diefenderfer

Dorothy Maxine (White) Diefenderfer, of Jerico Springs, MO, departed this life on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Sonshine Manor in Republic, MO at the age of 89 years.

She was born on October 23, 1928 east of Arcola, MO. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Horace and Beauty (Ingraham) White. She attended 4 years of school at Googer Elementary and 4 years at Arcola Elementary school, and graduated from Arcola High School. Dorothy attended Southwest Missouri State College, and taught school at Rockdale Elementary for 3 years. She worked for the Lockwood School District for 43 years as a secretary to the Elementary and High School Principals and the Superintendent.

Dorothy married Oscar Ray Diefenderfer on September 3, 1948. To this union one son, Mackie Ray Diefenderfer, was born. She and Oscar lived on a farm south of Jerico Springs from 1948 to 2014. Oscar passed away on February 25, 1999, and Dorothy continued to live on the farm until September 2014 when she entered Sonshine Manor Nursing Facility. Dorothy attended church at Cedarville Church, and was a member of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Thedford White.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Mackie and wife Debbie of Republic, MO; her grandson, Randy and wife Tara of Rogersville, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Zoe of Rogersville, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in Cedarville Church. She will be laid to rest by her husband, Oscar, in Maple Grove Cemetery south of Sylvania. Antonio Merida

Antonio Merida, 71, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Chula Vista, California while traveling. Antonia was born March 1, 1947 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Antonio served as Captain in the Guatemalan Army and was an ordained minister.

Antonio has lived in Carthage for the past 21 years and was a member of the Jehovah-Shama Church.

Antonio was united in marriage to Telma Arqueta on February 25, 1997 in California; she survives. He is also survived by one son, Marvin Merida; four daughters, Marta Ileana Merida, Coraima Merida, Mirka Merida and Odalis Merida; two brothers, Gumercindo Merida and Ignacio Merida; four sisters, Manuela Merida, Luisa Merida, Carmen Merida and Antonia Merida.

Two visitations will be held: Thursday, August 30th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Iglesia Pentecostal Jehova Shama, 135 South Main St., and Friday, August 31st, from 5:00 p.m. to midnight at Ministerios El Jordan, 1705 South Baker Blvd. both in Carthage.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1st at Park Cemetery.

Jeffrey Lee Moore, 60, passed away August 25, 2018 in Terre Haute, IN. Jeffrey was born October 18, 1957 in Des Moines, IA to Delmar Moore and Barbara “Giles” Pitcock.

Jeffrey was a lifetime resident of Southwest Missouri and worked as a trucker for D.M.T. He loved anything outdoors, especially radio-controlled racecars and airplanes, motorcycles, and boating on the lake. He was an avid supporter of the humane society, but most of all he treasured the time with his family.

Jeffrey is survived by his partner of 16 years, Robin Bruegeman; one son, Arron Frieze of Perry, KS, three daughters, Alexandrea Moore, Cinnamon Froebe and Tanya Bristow, all of Joplin; one sister, Roxanna Moore of Denver, CO; ex-wife, Alyce Moore; step-father, Ron Smith; step-mother Patricia Moore and her three daughters; David Gibson; four and 1/2 grandchildren, Thomas Maggard, Jr., Jeffrey Maggard, Michael Hood, Serinity Hood and Deklin, who is on the way.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Moore.

Ursula Lieselotte McGehee, age 84, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at her home. She was born April 21, 1934, in Steeden, Germany, the daughter of Heirich and Lina (Heinrich) Schmidt.

Ursula was the owner and operator of a House Cleaning Business and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Missouri.

Ursula is survived by her two sons, Ralph Schmidt of Golden City, Missouri and Michele McGehee of Kissimmee, Florida; one sister, Getruth Schmidt of Germany; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Her parents, Heirich and Lina and sister, Lydra Wingroth, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Missouri. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Sharon Engberg

Sharon Kay Engberg, age 74, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Sharon was born February 16, 1944 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, daughter of the late Albert Harvey and Verna Golden Harvey. She grew up and attended school in Gothenburg, and married Fred P. Engberg on July 30, 1968. They lived for several years in Nebraska and Las Vegas, before moving to Joplin in the late 1990's. She loved her family, and was especially happy when visiting yard sales, or the local flea markets.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and a son, Bobby.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Fred; children, Jack Frye of Nebraska, Roxie Scheske of Washington, Vonnie Jensen and husband Dave of Nebraska, Dakota Castro of Oklahoma, and Rico Engberg and wife Bonnie of Neosho; brothers, George Harvey and James Harvey both of Nebraska; grandchildren, Jenteal Engberg, Raiden Engberg, Rolando Castro, Rachel McKinney, Christopher Fitzpatrick, Nathan Fitzpatrick, Dewey Davis, Cody Davis, Brandon Davis, Stacie Darling, Elijah Donner, and Justin Engberg; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends including her closest friend, Robin Edwards.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

John Williams

John 'Johnny' Arthur Williams, age 65, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, after a sudden illness.

John was born May 24, 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Helen Williams and the late 'Happy' Jack Williams and he lived in the Joplin area most of his life.

John owned and operated Williams Entertainment Agency for over twenty five years. He booked bands, DJ's, and also performed. For many years, 'Johnny' was known to the music world as the lead guitarist and vocalist for 'Blade' and 'Sassafras', playing at area venues and benefits all over the country. He was currently employed at West 7th Street Salvage.

He came from a music family. In his younger years, Johnny performed on radio and television with his parents on 'Ozark Jamboree' and the 'Happy Jack and Helen Show'. John also served as past president of the local musicians union. When he wasn't performing on stage, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

John married Susan Sieverding on February 26, 1982 in Elk Point, South Dakota. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Belinda Williams, Joplin, Michelle Williams and husband, Gene Tennar, Joplin, Marilyn Miksell and husband, Justin, Jasper, Missouri; his mother, Helen Williams, Copan, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ricky Williams, Dewey, Oklahoma, Randy Williams and wife, Cindy, New Bern, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Sandy Williams, Republic, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Kelsie Williams, Isaiah Clark, Blake Miksell, Eugene Tennar, Cameron Miksell, Nicolette Halverson, Lucas Miksell, Isiah Halverson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Williams.

Services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Christpoint Church, Galena, Kansas. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy Stinnett, Matt Duncan, Bob Booker, Greg Banfield, Dave Gratton, Mark Roy, Tom Reynolds and Chris Goodwin. Alberta Foster

Alberta Jean Sexton-Foster of Neosho, MO passed form this life on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO. She was 59.

Alberta was born December 12, 1957 in Santa Claire, CA to Albert and Nellie (Nichols) Sexton. She had lived in Neosho for 24 years, moving from North Carolina. She worked as a pharmacist's tech for Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Neosho.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Perry Sexton and 1 sister, Karen Goforth.

She married Patrick Foster on February 5, 2016. He survives of the home. She is also survived by 2 sons, Jeffery Stephen Upton and wife Myrian of Oglethorpe County, GA and Jason Michael Upton and wife Heather of Neosho, MO, 1 brother, Gerald Spicer of Fort Smith, AR, 3 sisters, Linda Foster of Carthage, MO, Debbie Williams of Sacramento, CA and Janice Sexton of Aurora, MO and 4 grandchildren, Jayson Upton, Allyssa Upton, Olivia Upton and Jayden Upton.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Paul Thomas Family Center in Miami, OK.

Gerald Hendren

Clarence Gerald Hendren, 78, of Duquesne, passed away at his home on the evening of Aug. 24 after a yearlong illness. Gerald was born on Oct. 29, 1939 in Colcord, Oklahoma, to Clarence “Buster” Hendren and Elva Masters Hendren.

He graduated from Jay High School in Jay, Oklahoma, in 1957, where he was a class treasurer, beginning a lifetime as a numbers man.

After high school, Gerald attended Draughn’s Business College in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working for Sinclair Oil after graduating. He was drafted into the Army in 1962, where the company commander made him company clerk after learning Gerald could type. 

When his military service ended, he returned to work for Sinclair until he married Joyce Sterner on June 4, 1965. The couple moved to Joplin in the fall of that year, where Gerald enrolled at Missouri Southern State College. While attending MSSC, Gerald worked for the city of Joplin. He was a member of the college’s first four-year graduating class in 1969. After graduation he began working for Joplin’s BKD CPA firm and finished his career at Tri-State Motor Transit, where he worked as vice president of finance. 

He was a longtime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and church treasurer. He was a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the American Institution, Missouri Society of CPAs and the Great Plains Federal Credit Union board of directors. He was active in Joplin Girls Little League Softball, coaching and serving as league treasurer.
Gerald was a lifelong sports fan, with a particular love for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a master crappie fisherman and kept count of each year’s catch on a calendar. Many years the tally was in the hundreds. 

For many years, Gerald and Joyce operated a tax and accounting firm out of their home, from which Gerald only recently retired due to his health.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Delbert and Charles Hendren, and two nephews, Stephen and David Hendren. 

He is survived by his wife Joyce of 53 years; two daughters, Julie McBee and husband Jay, and Jill Farley and husband Josh; four grandchildren, Jordan Larimore and wife Lakin and Gerald’s great-granddaughter Avery, Kenzie Powderly and husband Jack, and Zeke and Zoey Farley; two step-grandchildren, Ashleigh Despos and husband, Matt, and Brittany McBee; and two step-great-grandchildren Brecklyn and Rylan Despos; two sisters, Sue Etris and Zelda Houck; sisters-in-law Billie Joslin, Janice Bowser, Twilla Wheeler and husband Ron. Gerald was also close to and considered family Zeke and Zoey’s longtime significant others Jocelyn Wheeler and Quenton Crow.
Memorial services are planned for Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Tim Oster and Rev. Dr. William Brock Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Joplin Humane Society, both in care of Parker Mortuary.

Rosanne Loesch

Rosanne (Hicks) Loesch, 80, of North Captiva Island, Fla., formerly of Taylorville, Ill., passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Rosanne was born March 28, 1938, in Taylorville, the daughter of John "Jack" and Rose (Kastelic) Hicks.

Rosanne graduated from Taylorville High School, and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Louis University where she met her future husband. She told her college roommate, after her first date with John, that he was the man she was going to marry.

She married Dr. J. John Loesch on July 17, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Taylorville. They were happily married for 58 years.

She worked as a registered nurse for a period of time, then had a most successful career raising her five children and supporting her husband in his private anesthesia practice. Rosanne was dedicated to John and her children, ensuring their future success. She would joke that when her husband asked her what she had been doing all day, she would reply, "Drinking gin and eating bonbons!" She enjoyed organizing family and social events, always making sure everyone was taken care of and had a great time. Her favorite place was the beach on North Captiva Island, where she enjoyed listening to the ocean, watching many amazing sunsets, and occasionally seeing the "green flash" with a glass of wine and family at her side. Rosanne was an active member of P.E.O., a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Taylorville, and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, in Joplin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Joseph "Joey" Hicks.

Rosanne is survived by her husband, J. John Loesch, M.D., of North Captiva Island; son, John Loesch, DDS; daughters, Michelle Dunne, of Waterford, Va., Susanne ( David) Hopkins, MD, of Monroe, Wash., Heather Loesch, MD of Wilmington, N.C., and Holly (Ray) Tantillo, MD, of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, John, Ken, and Peter Dunne, Emma and Phoebe Hopkins, and Devin, Elizabeth, and Joel Tantillo; siblings, Susan (John) Jones, Bloomington, Ill.; Bill (Cheryl) Hicks, of Normal, Ill. She also leaves behind nieces, Alison, Courtney, and Bridget; plus many loving friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 108 West Adams Street, Taylorville, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Taylorville.

Lorine Backs

Lorine Doris Jean Backs, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 85 years.

She was born on December 16, 1932 in Lincoln, MO to Clarence and Sidonia (Kunolt) Kreissler. Lorine was baptized on January 1, 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, MO, and was also confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and attended nursing training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Lorine was united in marriage to Willard R. Backs on November 5, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, MO. She was a wonderful homemaker, and also worked as a dedicated hospice caregiver for many years; a role she found great joy in serving others. Lorine was an avid gardener, and known by many for sending greeting cards. She was honored as Woman of the Year by the Lockwood Business and Professional Women. Lorine was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, MO. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League, Immanuel Lutheran Braille Center, and the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Backs of Lockwood, MO; two sons, Larry Backs and wife Susan of Overland Park, KS, and Ronnie Backs and wife Teresa of Lockwood, MO; four grandchildren, Kristen Backs of Republic, MO, Jordan Backs of Lockwood, MO, Ryan Backs and wife Meagan of Fayetteville, AR, and Caroline Backs of Overland Park, KS; and four cousins, Olga Wienberg, Lela Miesner, Bob Wischmeier, and Carol Lumpe.

Johna Goade

Johna Elizabeth (Craton) Goade was born September 5, 1937 on Oliver’s Prairie, near Newtonia, Missouri, the daughter of John and Alvira (Stevens) Craton. She departed this life on August 24, 2018, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, following a short illness at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 19 days. 

 Johna attended Granby Schools, graduating in 1955. She married her childhood sweetheart, Harry Neil Goade on Aug. 22, 1959 and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2001. Johna began her working career at First National Bank in Neosho at the age of 19 and retired in 2002 from Southwest Missouri Bank. Johna loved music and the choir at Newtonia Baptist Church, singing solos and in quartets with Neil, Phyllis Trammel and Jim Riggs as well a part of the full choir. She often sang in community choir concerts as well as the First Baptist Church in Neosho. Johna was an avid genealogist and had traced her family roots back through each of her family lines. A highlight of Johna’s retired years was taking her only granddaughter, Sarah Goade to Scotland to the Craton Castle. Johna believed in living a life to help others. She volunteered in several service organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Soroptomist for Women Business Leaders and Oliver’s Prairie Friends Mission Group. She was a past member of the Newtonia Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. She then became a member of the First Baptist Church in Neosho and continued to serve her God. 

 Johna is survived by her son, John Neil Goade and his wife, Paula and her granddaughter, Sarah Goade; a dear friend, Roy Cochran and special friend, Cathy Sheehy. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her aunt Vera Ruth Scheer. 

 Services will be Wednesday Aug. 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Granby, Dr. Todd Decker will officiate. Interment will follow in the Newtonia IOOF Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be John Mark Johnson, Rob Goade, Larry Dahnke, Steve Goade, Mike Goade and Garrett Dowell. Lynn Gardner

Dr. Lynn Gardner, age 79, of Carl Junction, MO, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 4:15 pm at Freeman Hospital. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2000 and lived for 14 years after receiving a double lung transplant in 2004.

Lynn was born on March 4, 1939 in Mays, IN, the son of Wallace and Irene (Gilson) Gardner. He has lived in the Carl Junction area since 1973. He married Barbara Thompson on February 24, 1961 in Holyoke, CO. He graduated from Ozark Christian College with a Bachelor of Theology in 1961. Education was very important to Lynn. He furthered his education by earning another bachelor degree from California State University, Stanislaus, his master’s degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, and his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Arkansas. Lynn served as a minister at Shell City, MO, Severy, KS, Prairie Hill, MO, and Turlock, CA.

Lynn taught for six years at Central Christian College of the Bible, Moberly, MO. Then he taught at OCC for 34 years, seventeen of those years he was the Academic Dean. He retired from the college in 2006. Lynn has authored 10 books and several of them have been translated into Korean, Russian, Polish and Spanish. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Bryce Gardner and his wife Nancy of Santee, CA; his daughter, Kara Arnce and her husband Bob of Joplin; his daughter-in-law, Cean Gardner of Carl Junction; four grandchildren, Luke and Mark Arnce and Dane and Hope Gardner; two brothers, Phillip Gardner of Versailles, MO, Keith Gardner and his wife Alice of Shelbina, MO, his brother-in-law, and Sam Stone of Mason, OH. Lynn was preceded in death by his son, Mark Gardner in 1999, his brother, Greg Gardner and his sister, Gwendolyn Stone.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 27, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Christian Church of Carl Junction. Burial will be in the Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm at the Christian Church of Carl Junction.

Memorial contributions may be given to Literature and Teaching Ministries of Joplin or Ozark Christian College in care of the Mortuary.

Sherri Smith

Mrs. Sherri Ann Smith, 58, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Neosho, departed this life on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after months of declining health.

Sherri entered this life on March 28, 1960, in Smithville, Missouri, born to the union of the late Jesse and Essie (Horne) Miller. She graduated from Truman High School in Independence, Missouri, in 1978 and furthered her education at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. For over twenty years she was employed by New Visions as a Direct Support Professional. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, watching her favorite TV shows and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Karen Ruddick and Claudette Jones; and two brothers, Louis and Melvin Miller.

Sherri is survived by her two children, Damon Miller and wife, Rachel, of Webb City, Missouri and Shanna Smith of Joplin; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Lawson of Joplin and Trenda Shaw of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Mike Miller of Maysville, Arkansas and Paul Shaw of Shanghai China; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Sherri will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery in Tiff City, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Mike Miller, Damon Miller, Alex Miller, Jerry Chatham, Alex Chatham and Chris McConn. Ted Reavley

Dr. Ted Allen Reavley DDS, age 71, of Lamar, Missouri passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at Freeman Hospital West, after a short illness.

     Ted was born May 26, 1947 in Lamar to Dr. Jackson Watson Reavley Jr. DDS and Mildred Irene “Mickey” (Barben) Reavley. He graduated Lamar High School in 1965 and graduated UMKC in 1978 with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He then joined his father, Dr. Jack, in private practice. Dentistry was not only a profession for Ted but also a hobby which he greatly enjoyed. He was grateful for his patients and considered it a privilege to practice in his hometown. His son, Dr. Brian, looks forward to continuing the tradition. On June 1, 1974, he married Carol Diane Roberts at the First Baptist Church Lamar and together they raised four children.

     Ted was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church Lamar, member and past president of the Lamar Rotary Club, member and past president of the Southwest MO Dental Society, Missouri Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He enjoyed hunting with his family and was a member of the “Hekarwee” Hunting Tribe. Ted also served in the Army National Guard. He loved spending time outside and worked diligently to develop the Northlake subdivision in Lamar. Ted was technologically savvy and was blessed with the ability to fix almost any computer problem at home or at work. Above all, the main focus of his life was his beloved family.  

     In addition to his wife Carol, he leaves behind two sons, Brenton Reavley DDS and wife Kristen, Parkville, Missouri and Brian Reavley DDS and wife Megan, Fremont Hills, Missouri; two daughters, Erin McNaught and husband Michael McNaught DDS, Nixa, Missouri and Brooke Reavley RN, Kansas City, Missouri. He took great pride in seven grandchildren: Zane Reavley; Halle, Claire, Grant, and Wyatt McNaught; and Ella and Jackson Reavley. He also leaves behind a niece, Stacy Gaier, Parker, Colorado and great niece, Maya Potter. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mary Nell (Reavley) Gaier.

     A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church Lamar. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time at the church. A private family burial will be in Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Donna Weston

Donna Ruth Weston, 62, Neosho, MO passed away August 24, 2018. Born June 30, 1956, the only daughter of Eugene and Wilma (Pogue) Weston, Donna was a lifelong Neosho resident. She worked as a laborer for several years at Crowder Industries. Donna was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and loved to go fishing.

Donna is survived by her mother, Wilma of Neosho; two brothers, Don Weston of Neosho and Charles Weston of Jenkins, MO; three nephews; two nieces; numerous other family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Steven Weston.

The family will receive visitors from 6 until 7 pm on Monday, August 27 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Neosho.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 28 at Clark Chapel of Memories, Neosho. Dr. Jerry Seigel and Rev. Ron Bridges will officiate. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery, Neosho.

William Bauernfeind

Mr. William S. Bauernfeind, age 86 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 1:51 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 with family gathered around at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan following a brief illness.

He was born on February 5, 1932 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Arthur G. and Viola (Corbeille) Bauernfeind. He was graduated from Niles High School in 1950 where he developed remarkable skills on the baseball team as a pitcher, and then went on to play minor league baseball for several teams including the Cubs.

Bauernsfiend played for the Carthage Cubs in 1951, posting a 10-8 record and a .270 batting average.

He served in the United States Navy as a radioman, and was honorably discharged as a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He returned to Niles, and began a 35 year successful career in retail automobile sales, first at the former Joe Hayden Ford at 11th and Maple, and then at the former Tyler-Linville Chevrolet (now Tyler Automotive) in Niles. He was featured in the May 28, 1973 issue of Time magazine as one of Ford’s top sales people for 1972.

Bill was an active member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, and an active member of the Niles-Buchanan YMCA for 40 years. He was a gifted salesman at the dealership and continued his talent for sales during retirement by buying and reselling a wide variety of items, earning him the nickname “Dollar Bill”. He also was an avid metal detector.

On November 7, 1953 in Niles he married his high school sweetheart, the former Barbara Anne Humphrey with whom he celebrated the remarkable Fifty-seventh anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on August 3, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and by Barbara’s parents Harry and Evelyn Humphrey and Barbara’s brother, Jerry Humphrey.

Surviving family includes their children, Michael (& Norma) Bauernfeind of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Mary (& Greg) Bierwagen and Martha (& Dave) Vogl, both of Niles; grandchildren, Mark (& Melissa) Bauernfeind, Ryan (& Oksana) Bauernfeind, Eric Bauernfeind, and Noah Vogl; great-granddaughters Mia and Anastasia Bauernfeind; and Bill’s brother, Arthur (& Dianna) Bauernfeind of Boston, Massachusetts and his daughter, Laura Wear.

The memorial mass for William Bauernfeind will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 203 South Lincoln Avenue in Niles by the Rev. Christian Johnston of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles, and will conclude with the Full Military Honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan, Michigan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles. Shirley Lamb

On August 11, 2018, Shirley Jean Lamb passed from this earth and joined her loved ones in Heavenly glory. A member of South Joplin Christian Church and Class of 1947 of Joplin High School, she touched many lives in the Joplin area with her generosity and service to others.

Shirley is survived by a daughter, Vicki Devers and her husband, Larry, as well as a son, Brad Lamb and his wife, Nancy. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott, Lisa,Kristi and Jenni, as well as six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life on Tuesday, August 21st, at 11:30 a.m. This will be held at the Joplin Association for the Blind, where she was a service member and board member. A private graveside service was held for family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joplin Association for the Blind.

Sheila Staggs

Sheila Joann Staggs, age 52, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on August 15, 2018, in Kaufman, Texas. Sheila was blessed to be surrounded by her loving husband, family and friends during the last months of her 14-year battle with cancer.

Sheila was born on October 15, 1965, in Kingsport, Tenn. Prior to her cancer diagnosis, Sheila was employed by Mid-Con Cable, Joplin, and St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Hawkins, of Texas.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Lanny Staggs, of the home; mother and stepfather, Bernice and David Boyles, Kaufman; father and stepmother, Bobby and Sara Hawkins, Kingsport; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Joseph Magnusson, Jacksonville, N.C.; goddaughter, Bonnie Johnson, Joplin; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Vivien Brite, Fort Riley, Kan.; son, Nicholas Brite, Joplin; sisters, Mechelle Morgan, Supher Springs, Texas, and Addy Boyles, Kaufman; stepsons, Roger Staggs, Bradley Staggs and wife, Mende; stepdaughter, Kelli Newcomb; grandchildren, Scarlett Johnson, Lydia Magnusson, Aurora Brite; step-grandchildren, Sagan Stephens, Tori Graskemper, Logan Staggs, Elizabeth Staggs, Clarissa Fox, Caleb Staggs, Corin Staggs and Cai Staggs.

She loved her family and was so proud of her children, grandchildren and extended family. She truly knew how to love, was loved by all and will be so missed. We look forward to the day when we see her again in Heaven.

Sheila's wishes were to be cremated with no formal funeral services. She did not want her passing to be a sad occasion, but did request a birthday party to celebrate her new Heavenly birthday. One celebration was held in Texas and another in Missouri is pending.

Judith Brown

Judith Celina Brown, passed away unexpectedly at her Neosho home on August 22, 2018, at the age of 54 years, 11 months, and two days.

Judith was born September 20, 1963 in St. Louis, MO to Joseph Edward and Mary Patricia (Scharfinski) Brown. She moved to this area from St. Louis in 2013. Judith was a Registered Nurse and attended Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Neosho.

She is survived by step-parents, Nancy and Albert Mensink of Neosho; one brother, Joseph Brown, Jr of Bismark, MO; and one cousin, Rhonda Richmond and husband, Greg of Goodman, MO. Judith was preceded in death by both parents.

Services are pending at this time.

Daniel Adams

Daniel S. Adams, age 82, of Webb City, MO, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at his home, following an illness.

Daniel was born on August 23, 1935 in Douglas, Arizona, the son of Clyde and Dorothy (Dearborn) Adams. He has lived in the Webb City area most of his life. He married Dortha Carey on September 24, 1954 in Oronogo, MO. Together they raised two daughters. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He worked 32 years as an Electronics Technician for Mardick Furniture. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Webb City.

He is survived by his wife, Dortha Adams, Webb City, MO, two daughters, Gina Monson (Rick) of Webb City, MO and Valerie Glaze (Oran Baker) of Joplin, MO; one sister, Martha Alford of Waco, MO; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Alburty (Jonathan). He was preceded in death by one brother, John Adams.
