Sabrina Muse

Sabrina Lee Hill Muse of Webb City, Missouri, passed away at her home on June 27, 2014.

Sabrina was born on January 24, 1984 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She is the daughter of Brent and Tabetha Hill Woirhaye of Joplin, Missouri. She attended elementary school in Clinton, Missouri until 1997 and graduated from Neosho High School in 2002. She attended Kay's Modeling School and was a model for several years. Later she attended Vatterott College in Joplin where she achieved a Cosmetology license. She also attended Franklin Tech where she achieved her state phlebotomy license, later becoming a Lab Support Technician at Mercy Hospital in Joplin where she was presently employed.

On June 01, 2008, she was happily united in marriage to her loving husband, Christopher Scott Muse. To that union two beautiful daughters were born, Baylee Gene, age 6 and Kelby Lynn, age 3. Sabrina loved her Lord and raised her daughters in a Christian way.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Robert Hill of Neosho, Missouri and Marvin Woirhaye of Clinton, Missouri.

Sabrina is survived by her husband, Christopher; daughters, Baylee and Kelby of Webb City; parent's Brent and Tabetha Woirhaye; sister, Samantha Woirhaye; brothers, William and Adam Woirhaye, all of Joplin; grandmothers, Leona Hill of Joplin and Nancy Woirhaye of Clinton. Also survived by her husband's mother, Sherry Santana of Joplin; father, Bill Muse and wife, Diana of Pittsburg, Kansas and Christopher's brothers, Dustin, Jonathan and Ty. Sabrina was loved by so many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Services are planned for Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Parker Chapel. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Muse Family Fund in care of the mortuary.

Sabrina was a kind, beautiful lady. She was loved and cherished by so many who felt devastated when they found out she had passed too suddenly. We have all lost when we lost her.

Dorothy Wyatt

Dorothy Fay Wyatt passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Dorothy was born in Pierce City, Missouri to the late Theodore Louis and Mable Rose Diebold. She was a member of the Seneca Christian Church.

On November 24, 1944, Dorothy married Jimmie Francis Wyatt in Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 23, 1996. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Henry (Hank) Diebold.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Cruzan and husband Jim of Seneca; three grandchildren, Kerri Preston of Raleigh, North Carolina, Tyler Preston and wife Camille of Unionville, Missouri, Tony Preston of Carl Junction; three great grandchildren, Jacob and Mason Preston of Carl Junction and Case Preston of Unionville.

A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin at 11:00 AM.

Gary Nagle

Gary Nagle, 72, of rural Stark City, MO, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 24, 2014, while at his home.

Gary was born on November 25, 1941, in Springfield, MO, son of the late John Francis and Elizabeth Adele (Neyer) Nagle. In 1959, Gary enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Cuban Crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1962. For over thirty-two years, Gary was a Delivery Driver for UPS. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO, serving the Lord in many capacities. He was also a board member at Jolly Mill and very much a conservationist and an outdoor enthusiast.

On August 24, 1990 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gary and Letha Snowden were united in marriage. Gary is survived by his wife, Letha, of the home; two sons, Gerald Patrick Nagle, Jr. (Toni Freeman) and John Patrick Nagle; one daughter, Kristy Nagle (Trevor Conrow) all of Stark City; five grandchildren, Abby Gorham, Christian Ross Nagle, Chassidy Freeman, Patrick Tyler Nagle and Emily Paige Nagle; one brother, Mike Nagle (Barbara) of Republic, MO; two sisters, Sharon Swift (Tom), of Pierce City and Mary Holden (Burrell), of Birch Tree, MO; three brothers-in-law, Red, Gerald and Harold Snowden; his best-friend, Richard Heim; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass was held Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pierce City, MO. Father Peter J. Morciniec officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.

Dong-Yoon Kim

Dong-Yoon Kim, age 72, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at his home following an extended illness.

Dong-Yoon was born October 10, 1941 in Seoul, Korea to the late Seung-Han and On-sub Yon Kim. He worked most of his life in the advertising department for the local newspaper. He moved from Korea to Joplin just a few years ago. Dong-Yoon is a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Missouri.

In October of 1968, Dong-Yoon married So-Jeon Yon in Korea. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include one son, Michael Kim of Joplin; two daughters, Anne Kim of Moracco and Julie Kim of South Korea; 5 grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Private family service will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

Will Snyder

Wilbert W. Snyder was born the 27th day of February 1930 at Verdella, Missouri. He was the son of Wilbert W. Snyder, Sr. and Nellie (Glover) Snyder. He died June 24, 2014 at Lamar, Missouri.

After graduating from Liberal High School in 1947, Will went to Kansas City, Missouri to work. In May of 1949 he joined the United States Navy. After boot camp he went to Electrician’s School and became an Interior Communication (I.C. Electrician). He was then transferred to the U.S.S. Mt. Katmai AE 16, an Ammunition Ship at Port Chicago, California, a Naval Ammunition Depot.

At the outbreak of the Korean Conflict, the Mt. Katmai was fully loaded and sailed to Sasebo, Japan, which was the ship’s home port away from home. The ship would rendezvous with the 7th Fleet, enabling them to transfer ammunition to the war ships at sea. In 1952, Wilbert was transferred to the U.S.S. Bushnell A.S.15, a Submarine Tender. The crew brought the ship from the west coast to their home port in Key West, Florida. At the time of his discharge March 26, 1953, Will was an I.C. Electrician 2nd Class Petty Officer.

Following his discharge, Will attended Central Technical Institute, an electronic engineering school in Kansas City. After school, he remained in Kansas City to work for the Atomic Energy Commission. This department later became the U.S. Department of Energy and he worked there as a quality control supervisor until retiring in 1988.

Will was a 50-year Mason and a member of Lamar Lodge #292. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Mt. Hope #74, Lamar and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jackson, Tennessee. He was an active member of Lamar United Methodist Church. Will was an avid coon hunter in his younger days. He and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed blue grass festivals and their winter vacations in the Southwest.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita (Bowen) Snyder; his parents, Wilbert & Nellie Snyder; his brothers, Jim, Harold, Elmer and George Snyder; his sisters, Marie Carlyle and Jerene Gosney.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Rawlings) (Rittermeyer) Snyder; two sons, Bert Snyder and wife Rhonda, Bruce Snyder and wife Marcia; a step-son, Douglas Rittermeyer; two step-daughters, Pamela Anderson and Cheryl Rittermeyer; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother George’s wife, Ramona Snyder.

Funeral services were held  Friday, June 27, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial with military honors was held in Barton City Cemetery near Liberal.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton City Cemetery or Lamar United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Bill Clements

William “Bill” L. Clements, age 67, of Lamar, MO passed Thursday morning at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, MO.

Bill was born July 8, 1946 to Ted Richard Clements and Ruby Thelma (Little) Clements at Lamar, MO. He graduated Lamar High School in 1966. He served his country in the US Army and was in Vietnam from July 1967 until July 1968. On July 1, 1967 he married Sue Jeffreys in Lamar, MO and together they raised two daughters. Bill retired from Thorco Industries where he worked as a supervisor. He was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church; member of the Firefighters Association of MO since 1978; member of Ozark Fire Chief’s Association as a charter member since 1983; Lamar Fire Department for 43 years and served as Assistant Fire Chief for over 30 years. Bill was also a member of Elks Club, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, socializing, playing pitch and “tinkering”.

Bill leaves behind his wife of nearly 47 years, two daughters and their husbands, Michelle & Chris Ferguson, of Joplin, MO and Carla and Scott Shapley, of Bentonville, AR; two brothers, Don Clements, of Lamar, MO and Loyd & Beverly Clements, of Lamar, MO; one sister, Thelma and Don Selvey, of Lamar, MO; one sister in law, Dixie Clements of Lamar, MO; and three grandchildren, Samantha Ferguson, Nichole Tate, and Taylor Shapley.

Funeral service was held Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Robb Hodson officiating. Burial followed at Lake Cemetery with Military Honors.

Dorothy Mae Elizabeth Brock, 91, Neosho, died June 27, 2014 at Medicalodge in Neosho, following a lengthy illness.

 Dorothy was born Jan. 10, 1923 in Stark City, Missouri and was a lifelong area resident. She worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes and was a homemaker. Dorothy is survived by three children, Vurl E. Brock, Jr., Neosho; Dorothy Swanson and Deborah Brock, both of Granby; one brother, William J. Cain, Springfield, MO; 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

George Quier

George T. Quier, two days short of his 85th birthday, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village following a short illness.

 George was born June 29, 1929 in Pittsburg, Ks. He was a graduate of the former Kansas State Teacher’s College, now Pittsburg State University. He began his teaching career in the Arcadia, Ks. school district. He taught Building Trades at the University of Kansas, and returned to Arcadia as the Superintendent of Schools. He received his PhD at the University of Arkansas. While in Fayetteville obtaining his degree he taught Jr. High Industrial Arts. He then served as a Professor of Secondary Education, and Industrial Arts at Northwest Mo. State University in Maryville, Mo. He then served as an Educator in Building Trades with the Trinidad State Jr. College in Trinidad, Co. and also in Silver City, New Mexico. He moved to Joplin in 1987 to be the Dean of Christian Technical School where he served three years. He retired in 1995 as Director of Buildings and Grounds at Ozark Christian College.

George was a member of the Park Plaza Christian Church. He was instrumental in designing and building the Countryside Christian Church in Maryville, Mo. as well as helping build numerous other churches throughout his lifetime. He was a 23 year member of the Naval Reserves.

George married Dorothy Clark December 25, 1950 in Walnut, Kansas and she survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Cheri Thebeau and husband Steve, Davidson, North Carolina, a daughter in law, Terry Ward and husband Doug, Wichita, Ks., three grandchildren, Brooklin and Matthew Thebeau, and Paige Quier, and a step granddaughter, Amber Rey. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Alan Quier, a sister, Betty Dean Sheward Slayman and a brother, Jack Quier.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Park Plaza Christian Church with B.A. Austin, and Craig Woolsey, Ministers, officiating followed by cremation. Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary. Memorial contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.

Betty Thompson

Betty Jo (English) Thompson, age 90 of Joplin, Mo passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 following an Illness.

 Betty was born on August 28, 1923 in Joplin the daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Wilson) VanNoy. She married Walter English in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1978, she then married Paul Thompson in 1980 and he preceded her in death in 2000.

 Additional survivors include one daughter, Sandy Palmer, of Longview, Tx., one son; Tony English and his wife Norma of Joplin.; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bud VanNoy, and a sister, Judy Irish.

 Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Brad Graves will officiate. The visitation will be open during regular visiting hours.

Patty Lou Zaerr age 80 of Jasper, MO. passed away June 23, 2014 at Truman Health & Rehab, Lamar, MO..

She was born September 30, 1933 in Carthage, Missouri to Earnest and Bessie (Chrisman) Lambeth. Patty was a homemaker.

 Patty was united in marriage to Kenneth Zaerr Sr. on June 7, 1952 in Carthage, MO. . He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Kristi Wells of Jasper, MO..Eight grandchildren and Eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen. Two sons, Karl and Kenny. Four brothers and three sisters.

 Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Jasper Christian Church , Jasper, MO.. Anna Walker

Anna Marie Walker, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village surrounded by her children after a lengthy illness.

Anna was born June 3, 1924 in Leavenworth, Kansas, daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Canki. Her father was in the United States Armed Forces, so she lived in several locations throughout her youth.

She married Monte G. Walker after high school, and together they had three children. Monte passed away in April of 1967, and Anna devoted her life to taking care of her children, which included working for Keystone Laundry in Joplin where she worked her way to foreman. Anna's brother, Johnny Canki, had a large influence in her children's lives after Monte's death. Even though Anna devoted most of her time to caring for her family, she was also a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Monte Walker, she was preceded in death by three brothers, including Johnny Canki.

Survivors include her children, Sam Carter and husband Bill of Joplin, Jody Cornett and husband Kenneth of Carthage, and John Walker and wife Tammy of Carl Junction; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Theresa Redford and husband Clark of Midlothian, Virginia; and a brother, Rudy Canki and wife Ann of Joplin.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father J. Friedel officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Spring River Christian Village for the special and loving care of their mother during her time there.

Lola Marie Lewis, 86, Granby, MO., died Monday, June 23, 2014, at her home, following a lengthy illness.

  

She was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Newton County, to Perry and Alpha (Enlow) Harris. Lola was a lifelong area resident. Prior to her retirement she worked many years at the Granby Garment Factory while she and her husband Landon ran a dairy farm. Lola was baptized at the Granby Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, David Parsley, Granby, three granddaughters, Anna Marie O’Brien, Anderson, Rejena MacCash, Pooler, Ga. and Paula Sleeper, Girard, Ks., Three great granddaughters, Leandra Johnson, Katelynn (Allison) Shourds and Cassie (MacCash) Fontenot, four great grandsons, Jarid MacCash, Cody, Seth, and Lane Sleeper, six great-great grandchildren, Delica, Lola, Grace, Emma, Kaitlin, Kensley and Kaden, three sisters, Ilene Garner,Jewell(Charles) Collinsworth and Violet (John) Branham. In addition to her husband and parents Lola was preceded in death by her daughter Reba Kay (Parsley) Roberts, two grandsons, Aaron “Butch” Cox, Jr. and Shannon Parsley, four sisters, Imogene Shellito, Christine Michael, Betty Garren, and Ann Barber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold Mailes

Harold Mailes, 81, Neosho, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Medicalodge in Neosho from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Harold was born on July 12, 1932 in the Dessa Community, between Neosho and Seneca, the son of Lloyd and Opal (Skaggs) Mailes and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He worked at Rocketdyne in the 1960’s and served as general manager of Burr Motor Company for many years. He had served as President of both the Neosho Kiwanis Club and the Neosho Men’s Golf Association. He accepted Christ at an early age and served the Lord faithfully all of his life.

Harold and Carmen Burr were married on September 30, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are his son, Kim and his wife, Carol of Neosho; his daughter, Traci McCreary and husband, Joe of Colorado Springs, Colorado and his grandson, Colton Mailes and wife, Audrey of Denver, Colorado. Also surviving are six siblings, Virginia Irvin of Seneca, Maurice Mailes of Seneca, Patsy Meyer of Seneca, Freddie Mailes of Bella Vista, AR, Aleta Platner of Neosho and Olan Mailes of Neosho.

Theresa Witt

Theresa Gail Witt, age 65, of Carterville, Missouri, passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

She was born on November 2, 1948 in Lockwood, Missouri to James Lee and Kathryn Wilkinson Hyder. Theresa was raised in Carthage and graduated in 1966. She was a school bus driver for over 25 years with the Webb City School District. Theresa also helped teach children’s Sunday School for 20 years. Her love of life was her family. She also loved to travel and shop in flea markets. Her family knows her best as a giver, having a huge servant’s heart.

On December 31, 1971, Theresa married Jackie Leo Witt in Joplin. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Debra Sammons of Pittsburg, Kansas; Christine Covert and husband Jeff of Webb City; Jackie Ellis of Carterville; three sisters, Angela Smith and husband Steve of Columbia, Missouri; Joan Heniger and husband Jim of Arizona; Sharron Aubrey and husband Phil of Carthage; twin brother, Ted Hyder and wife Emma of Del Rio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many extended friends and family.

Services are planned for Friday, June 27, 2014 at Duenweg Assembly of God Church at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at the Webb City Cemetery. Jean Comer

Jean Comer, age 75 of Joplin, Mo passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 following an Illness. 

Jean was born on March 21, 1939 in Pittsburg, Kansas the daughter of Orville and Valda (Waite) Norris. She graduated from Pittsburg Kansas High School. She worked for Straw Trucking Company.

 She married Ronald Comer on May 11, 1959, in Miami, Oklahoma and he survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Straw and husband Buddy, Miami, Okla., two sons; Wayne Comer and wife Donna, Webb City, Mo., and Ken Comer and wife Kim, Joplin, Mo.; two sisters Donna Miller and husband, George, Oronogo, Mo., Mary Beth Lewis and husband Tom, Frontenac, Kansas; nine grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother Robert Norris and one sister Betty Eurit.

Phaelynn Renee Carter, infant daughter of Cindy L. Carter, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.

Phaelynn is survived by her mother, Cindy L. Carter of Joplin; grandparents, Delois Carter and Clyde Richards both of Independence, Kansas; aunts, Hannah Jackson, Teresa Carter both of Joplin, and Marcella Carter of Coffeyville, Kansas; several cousins.

Graveside services will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Dan Wermuth officiating

Ronald Perkins

Ronald D. Perkins, age 73, of Webb City, MO, went to be with the Lord Monday June 23, 2014 following a short illness.

He was born June 24, 1940 in Carthage, MO, to David and Virginia Butts Perkins. Ron was employed with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for thirty years. He was a field training manager and retired in 2010. He was also an instructor at the National Academy of Railroad Science at the Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS. Ron proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer.

Ron graduated from Mid America Nazarene College, Olathe, KS, with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He was also a graduate from Nazarene Bible College, Colorado Springs, CO. He was a member of the Webb City Nazarene Church where he was a men’s ministry leader and was involved in outreach ministry. He was a man of God and spent his life doing the Lord’s work.

He married Kathy Saia on February 14, 1987 in Albany, GA, she survives. He is also survived by one son, Jeffery Perkins, Omaha, NE; two daughters, Melissa McClaskey-Crane, Olathe, KS, and Heather Shaver, Tucker, GA; one brother, Jack Perkins, Carthage, MO; and two grandchildren, James Edward McClaskey III and Garrett Dean McClaskey.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday June 30, 2014 at the Webb City Nazarene Church, with Pastor Nathan Haeck and Mike Giesert, minister officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the church prior to service. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Nazarene Mission International in care of the funeral home.

Wanda Gooch

Wanda Lou Gooch, age 83, Joplin, passed away at 7:13 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.

Wanda was born March 7, 1931 in Joplin to the late Chester C. Smith and Neva May Paullas Smith and had lived in Joplin all of her life.

She worked for the former Haynes Rexall Drug Store and retired from the Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Crib Home after 25 years of service. She was a Catholic and loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Clennis L. Gooch; three brothers, George ‘J.D.’ Smith, Carl Smith, Bobby Gatewood; and a great granddaughter, Triston Linehan.

Survivors include three children, Gary Moon and his wife, Brenda, Neosho, Barbara Sheridan and her husband, Larry, Joplin, Randy Gooch and his wife, Patti, Neosho; a sister, Barbara Hunt, Webb City; one brother, Richard M. Smith and his wife, Linda, Joplin; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary. Scott Pogue will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dustin Dickson, Shannon Moon, Austin Moon, Robin Rager, Larry Sheridan, Kevin Moon, Mike Smith, Sr., and Mike Smith, Jr. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Thelma Kissire

Thelma "Thel" Kissire passed away on June 23, 2014 after a lengthy illness.

 She was born April 4, 1928 to Howard and Florence Evans. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1946 and attended SMSU college in Springfield, MO. She was a member of BPW and was nominated as Woman of the Year in 1991, a member of the Association for Retired MO State Employees, the Al Anon Family Group and the Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, MO. Her favorite past time was spending time with her children, attending the Senior Citizen dances, playing bridge and associating with her many friends. She had a zest for life and lived each day to the fullest. 

Survivors are her children Cathy (Terry) Bechtel, Joplin MO, Dennis (Gayla) Iles, Cleveland TN, Linda Clemons, Carl Junction MO, Ronda (Terry) Brown, Rogers AR and Kevin Iles, Jasper MO. Grandchildren are Nathan (Chris) Colson, St. Louis MO, Garyn Colson, Joplin MO, Jason (RaChelle) Iles, Republic MO, Eric Iles, Nixa MO, Shane (Natalie) McCorkle, St. Louis MO, Amanda (Jeremy) Keaster, Russellville AR, Clint (Kristen) Brown, Russellville AR, Matt (Alexis) Clemons, Rowlett TX, Evan Clemons, Rowlett TX, Katie (Eric) Norris, Greenwood IN. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Anna Iles in 2001. She was blessed with 13 great grand children. Surviving sisters are Irma Erickson, Ruth Webb and Wilma Bevirt. Preceding her in death was a sister Edna Graham and brothers Wayne, Glenn, Leon, Eugene and Bob Evans.

 Family visitation is Thursday June 26 from 5 - 7 at Grace Episcopal Church, 820 Howard Carthage MO. Graveside service is Friday June 27 @ 10:00 Fullerton Cemetery, South of Carthage. Larry Spencer

Larry Edward Spencer, 64, Neosho, died June 23, 2014 at his home, following an illness since December 2013. 

Larry was born July 26, 1949 in Neosho and lived most of his life in Neosho and the Stark City area. He worked for over 30 years at FAG Bearing, doing machine repair. He had coached T-Ball, Girls softball, Boys baseball and played slow pitch softball. He served on the Neosho Rec Board and was a FFA member in high school. He was an avid coon hunter, an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and enjoyed spending his Saturday mornings with buddies at Charley’s Grill and Sunday morning breakfast with buddies at the Green Forest Café. 

Larry and Cathy (Hammer) were married on March 15, 1969 at Neosho and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Lori Ruark and husband, Greg and Chad Spencer and wife, Tracy; five grandchildren, Bradley and Jessica Spencer, Jordan Spencer, Spencer Ruark and Garrett Spencer and a sister, Anna Shaw and husband, Al. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Louie ‘Junior’ and Opal Spencer.

Raymond Greer

Raymond H. Greer, age 83 of Wyandotte, OK formerly of Joplin passed away on Monday June 23, 2014 the Spring River Christian Village. 

He was born on January 14, 1931 in Joplin, MO the son of Albert and Alma “Athay” Greer. Raymond was a veteran serving his country with the United States Army. Raymond Married Patty McNary on October 31, 1958 in Joplin, MO she preceded him in death on January 14, 2010. He worked for W.R. Grace Chemical as a maintenance worker for 38 years till his retirement in 1984. He moved to Grand Lake after his retirement. He enjoyed fishing woodworking, bowling and Gardening. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruby England/Stone.

 Survivors include two sons: Joe Greer of Belton, TX and Don Greer and wife Kristy of Independence, MO; a daughter Sharon Gibbs of Omaha, NE, five grandchildren: Angie Roberts, Amy Gibbs, Krishonya Greer, Kendra Greer and Kevin Gibbs; two great grandchildren, and two sisters: June Severns and Erma Putnam.

 Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory with Pastor John Bates officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Sycamore Valley Methodist Church in care of the Mortuary.

Denzil Thurman

Denzil Elmer Thurman, age 82, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his home in Neosho, Missouri, following a long illness.

 Denzil was born on September 3, 1931 in Neosho, the son of Elmer D. and Bertha (Piercy) Thurman. He has been a lifelong area resident of the Neosho area. Denzil was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United States Air Force from August 1951 to November 1953, being medically discharged. He was a carpenter, farmer and worked at Big Smith. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church. 

On December 3, 1995, Denzil married and is survived by Carolyn J. Thurman. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mark Allen Thurman and brothers, Kenneth Thurman, William Thurman, Donald Thurman and Larry Thurman and sisters, Irene Thurman, Bernice Phelan and Imogene Jennings. He has four surviving siblings, Delmar Thurman and Gary Thurman, Neosho and Lucille Pfeifer, Bono, AR and Velma Dean Eddington, Houston, MO. He raised five children, and is survived by D. Lyle Thurman, his wife Claudia and two children all of Saracoxie, Missouri; Greggory O. Thurman, his significant other, Brenda White and one child of Neosho, Missouri; Terry A. Thurman, his wife, Pam and two children of Rogers, Arkansas and Marilyn Jean (Jeannie) Zerr and three children of Sarcoxie, Missouri and thirteen great grandchildren.

Clair Mae Hill

Clair Mae Hill, age 81, Joplin, passed away at 1:13 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at her home after an illness.

Ms. Hill was born April 20, 1933 in Stark City, Missouri to the late St. Clair Rodgers and Lucy Wright Rodgers and had lived in Joplin all of her life.

She worked very hard all of her life and retired from Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area, Head Start Program as a teacher. She was a loving homemaker to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and was an accomplished upholsterer.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Hudson, Joplin, James A Hill, Joplin, Lionel Hill, Cameron, Alvin Hill, Carthage, Stephen Hill, St. Joseph, MO, Michael Hill, Pierce City, MO, Anette Fields, Joplin, Anise Hill, Joplin; her siblings, Johnny Rodgers, California, Josephine Rodgers, Atlanta, Georgia, Emogene Thomas, Pittsburg, Kansas, Arbella Rodgers, Joplin; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Millie Gunn; and two brothers, Aubrey Rodgers and Ralph Rodgers.

Clair Mae has been taken for cremation. No formal services are planned.

Wanda Havens

Wanda Havens, 89, of Joplin, Missouri died June 20, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Her family was with her.

 Wanda was born October 3, 1924, in Lowell, Kansas, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Pearl Fulwiler of Riverton, Kansas. She graduated from Riverton High School in 1941 and married Bobby G. Havens on June 9, 1957. Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs. She was a lifelong resident of the tri-state area and was a proud employee of Empire District Electric Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1988. Before retirement she and Bob used their vacations to travel as much as possible, often to warmer destinations such as Florida or Hawaii. After retirement they were able to travel more widely, both overseas and in the United States. Among their memorable travels were trips to Australia, France and Greece, and their many RV adventures (including several trips to Alaska). The family remembers their many camping experiences with Aunt Wanda and Uncle Bob and always appreciated the efforts they made to be sure everyone enjoyed themselves.

 Wanda is survived by her husband, Bobby G. Havens of Joplin, sisters, LaVaughn Hanson of Lenexa, Kansas, Dolorise Hearrell of Topeka, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wanda and Bob were very dedicated to one another. Persons who met them often commented on her gentle, kind manner and what a lovely couple they were. Wanda was cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Thomas Allgood

Thomas Leroy Allgood, 91 formerly of Joplin, Mo., went to be with the Lord at 4:48 A.M. Friday, June 20, 2014 at his home in Harrah, Oklahoma.

 Mr. Allgood was born in Joplin, Mo. on March 13, 1923 and was one of 13 children borm to Thomas Scott Allgood and Tencil Violet Allgood. He was married to Delora Joann Severs, March 20, 1944, who preceded him in passing on July 15, 2003 after 59 years of marriage. The couple had two daughters, the eldest daughter, Patricia Griffin, who preceded them in death and their daughter, Dianna Lord who currently resides in Harrah, Ok. Mr. Allgood is survived by his only remaining sisters, Colleen Black of Joplin, Mo. and Mary Lou Hudson of Joplin, Mo. and his only surviving brother Jack Allgood, Joplin, Mo.; four grandchildren, Brenda and Donna Griffin of Joplin, Mo., Stacy Lord-Campbell of Oklahoma City, Ok., and Michael Todd of Piedmont, Ok.; five great grandchildren; Nate Lord, Oklahoma City, Ok., Mick Lord, Oklahoma City, Ok., Josh Lord, Harrah, Ok., Blake Todd, Piedmont, Ok. and Kyleigh Todd, Piedmont, Ok. and the son he always wanted, his son in law. Mr. Allgood was a shop foreman at Yellow Freight in Baxter Springs, Ks. for 30 years, built several homes in the Greenwood community, just outside of Joplin and upon retiring, designed, built and operated Allgood Meat Processing for several years before selling it to move to Joplin. Tom will be greatly missed by his family and his little buddy Mickey.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 24, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary chapel, Joplin, Mo., with John and Dianna Lord officiating. Burial will follow at the Osborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Maria Miller

Maria Miller, 79, passed away on June 20, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones at Spring River Christian Village Nursing Home.

 Maria was born on March 10, 1935 to Fredrick and Rosa Rapp, her siblings include 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She married Johnny R. Miller on June 3, 1972 and they raised five children; Jim Banks and wife, Lisa and children, Michael, Dereck, Alex and Claire; daughter, Gloria Anderson and husband, Thomas and children, Dawn Peters and Casey Wiley and fiance’, Mariah; Linda A. Henry, Troy and children, Hannah and Jeremy; daughter, Suzanne Banks and daughter, Tricia Miller and fiancé Joe and children, Kyan, Jacob and Emily; great grandchildren, Austin, Tyler, Brecken, Liam and Abriel. Maria enjoyed living on the farm and worked at Tyson Foods for 20 years. She enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was known as ‘Oma’.

Karen Maxwell

Karen M.( Herndon) Maxwell, age 67 of Joplin, Mo. passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 following a car accident.

 Karen was born on September 8, 1946 in San Diego, Ca. the daughter of Kenny and Sarah Jane (Bebbington) Ross. She has been an area resident for the past 40 years, Karen worked as a housekeeper for area nursing homes. She was a member of Kingdom Life Fellowship in Webb City.

 She married Stanley Maxwell Sr, he preceded her in death on August 10, 2009, Karen was also preceded by her parents, one brother, Robert Ross, and an infant daughter, Michelle Lynn Settle.

 Survivors include one son; Ken Herndon and his wife Carrie of Manhattan, Ks., one daughter; Renee Dean and her husband Scott of Joplin, one sister; Carol Clevenger and her husband Ken of Blue Springs, Mo., one granddaughter; Krysta Heritage and her husband Dustin of Joplin, and two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Giuliana Heritage.

 Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, with Mike Hensley, officiating. Burial will follow at the New Hope Cemetery in Dadeville, Mo.

Harold Michael

Harold Eugene (Mike) Michael, 80 was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 19, 2014, He passed away at home surrounded by his family following a short illness. 

Harold was born December 20, 1933 to A.W. and Lolia Michael in Carthage, MO. He was a lifetime Carthage resident graduating from Carthage High School in 1951. He attended the University of Missouri before joining the U.S. National Guard. He helped build the Lucky Peak Dam in Boise, Idaho while serving in the Guard. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas where he married the love of his life, Janice Pauline Boothe February 1955. Their lives were blessed with four daughters, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Harold possessed an incredible work ethic and was a wonderful provider for his family. Harold and his wife Janice raised Hereford cattle and Hampshire hogs. He worked at various places in and around Carthage, and enjoyed being a public servant in the elected offices of Public Administrator, County Auditor, and Circuit Clerk of Jasper County before retiring in 1992.

 Harold was a lifelong Baptist and served as a deacon at the Victory Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and all of his church family. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite and a 60 year member of the United Commercial Travelers. He served on the board of Jasper County 911 and Fidelity Cemetery. He was always willing to help others in times of need and he possessed a true servant’s heart. 

Harold is survived by his loving and devoted wife Janice, four daughters Vicki (John) Cash, Susan Lovette, Peggy (Conrad) Feather, all of Carthage and Sally (Jeff) Lee of Joplin, His sisters, Virginia Howard and Loretta Page of Carthage, one brother Boyd Michael of Florida, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loved ones. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, A.W. Michael II, Lawrence Michael and Charles Michael. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful caretakers of Hospice Compassus. Their loving kindness and compassion was outstanding.

 It was Harold’s request for cremation and a Celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday July 1, 2014 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Pastor Ed Hamilton will officiate. Eric Zentner

Eric E. Zentner, age 45, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from injuries he sustained in a one vehicle accident on South Main Street near I-44.

Eric was born May 30, 1969 in Joplin, Missouri to Fred and Sandra Martin Zentner. He had lived in Joplin for the past 8 years, moving from Springfield, where he had lived for 20 years.

While in Springfield, he worked in sales and as the head mechanic for J.J.’s Cycles. For the past seven years, he worked alongside his wife as the co-owner and operator of Fraley Funeral Supply in Joplin. He was also a sales representative for Bass Mollett Publishing and Hydrol Chemical Company.

Eric was an avid collector of World War II memorabilia and was a member of the War Relics Club. He was well thought of and people admired him for his knowledge of war history. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time hunting or fishing. Eric was a member of the Joplin Rifle Club; Forest Park Baptist Church and a beloved member of the ‘Corgi Nation’. He tinkered with old cars and raced dirt bikes as a boy. Of all his activities and hobbies, Eric was probably known for his ‘made from scratch’ cooking. He never used recipes, but could make anything he set his mind to.

Eric was a 1987 graduate of Joplin High School. He and his wife, the former Beth Fraley, were high school sweethearts. They were married on July 28, 2007 in Joplin. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his parents Fred and Sandra Zentner, Joplin; two brothers, Martin K. Zentner and his wife, Vicki, Westmoreland, Kansas, Michael Zentner, Carl Junction; one sister, Ellen Bridgewater and her husband, David, Wichita, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Kyle Bridgewater, Joseph Bridgewater, Chrissy Zentner, Jessica Zentner, Jeffrey Zentner, Kathryn McLean, Ian McLean; aunts and uncles, Katrina and Bill Smith, G.H. and Vera Zentner; and his beloved Corgi, Princess.

Eric was preceded in death by a sister, Missy McLean.

Services are planned for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Bridgewater, Kyle Bridgewater, Luke Miller, David Bridgewater and Martin Zentner and Michael Zentner.

Nellie Irene Beaty, age 95, passed away June 17, 2014, Joplin, Mo. Nellie was born December 25, 1918 in Fairview, Mo.,the daughter of the late George and Amanda (Riddle) Russell. She was married to Hubert Morgan in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1975. Nellie married Otis Beaty in 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by two sons, Glen Morgan and his wife Patricia, Carl Junction, Mo., and Donald Morgan, Olathe, KS.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Zella Johnson

Zella O. Johnson, of Independence, Mo., age 94, passed away on Monday June 16, 2014, in Independence, Mo., following an illness. 

Zella was born on September 16, 1919 in Pond Creek, Ok., the daughter of the late Fred A. and Mary Murriel (Klein) Williams. She was a member of the Calicoat Quilt Club. She attended the East Independence Church of Christ. She married Carl M. Johnson on September 3, 1938. He preceded her in death August of 1991. 

She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Johnson in May of 1979 and two brothers, Roy Williams and Gerald Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Dickey and husband Jack, Independence, Mo., and Wanda Heibein and husband Harry, Longmont, Co.; three brothers, Gene Williams, Sacramento, Ca., H. Lee Williams, Webb City, Mo., and Jimmy Williams, Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Lorraine Halteman, Carterville, Mo. and Juanita Williams, Joplin; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, Mo. H. Lee Williams and Kent Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Jeff Dickey, Jody Dickey, Wayne Heibein, Greg York, and Caleb Smythe. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service. Jean Miller

Mitzie “Jean” Miller, 77, of Carthage, passed June 17, 2014 in Joplin.

 Jean was born March 15, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ralph Hartz and Esther Bowman Hartz. Jean was a resident of Carthage since 1966; she owned and operated a local craft store on the North side of the square and the Blue and Grey café on 3rd street in Carthage.

 Jean was united in marriage to Kenneth T. Miller June 5, 1955 in K.C. Missouri he preceded her in death July 31, 1993. Jean is survived by one daughter Connie Miller and Husband Norman of Neosho, MO and two sons Wayne Miller of Carthage, and Clint Miller and Wife Nancy also of Carthage, three grandchildren Clark (Shelby) Miller, Creinna Miller and Nathan Smith one great grandchild Adaleigh, one sister Evelyn Waggoner of Odessa, MO. Jean was preceded by two sisters Pat Wickman and Sue Carrol.

Donna was born April 10, 1945 in Anderson, Missouri, the daughter of Ivan and Martha (Ahrens) Link. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson and Neosho and a homemaker. Donna and Paul Lewis were married on Aug. 21, 1965 in Pineville, MO and he survives.

 Other survivors include two sons, Troy Lewis and wife, Kerry, Neosho and Russell Lewis, Carthage; two sisters, Nelma Jo Threeton and husband, Louis, Bentonville, AR and Velma Lee Lea and husband, Kent, Neosho and four grandchildren, Tearstan, Isabel, Dylan and Landon. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deanna Ruth Lewis.

Madeline Stinnett

Madeline M. (Madge) Stinnett, age 91 of Joplin, passed away at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation June 17, 2014 at 11:47 PM after a prolonged illness.

Madge’s life was one filled with love and passion for her Lord, dedication to her family, especially her son, Mitch, as well as her dearly loved friends. She was truly a person of great integrity and infectious enthusiasm for life.

Born May 26, 1923 in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. Campbell and Vinita Marie Holt Campbell and lived in Joplin her lifetime. She attended Joplin High School, Joplin Business College and Missouri Southern State University. She served as Assistant Corporate Secretary and Executive Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Mercantile (now US Bank) Bank, retiring in 1987 after 18 years. Madge was a member of Business and Professional Women, Executive Secretaries Association, National Association of Bank Women, MSSC Lantern Society and the Women’s Division of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce. She served on the Long-Range Planning Committee for Joplin RVIII School District. She was a former member of Empire Baptist Church where she served as president of the Women’s Missionary Society and superintendant of the Primary and Youth Departments. She was also a Young Adults teacher. She was then a member at First Baptist Church, where she served on various committees and as Adult Sunday school teacher for 11 years. She was a longtime volunteer for St. John’s Auxiliary and First Baptist Church of Joplin office staff. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Regional Health and Welfare Association.

On July 3, 1942, she married her beloved husband of 56 years, Donovan G. (Don) Stinnett, in Joplin. He preceded her in death July 2, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Dr. D. Mitchell Stinnett and wife Deborah of Joplin; a granddaughter, Alyson Stinnett Miller and husband Derek of Joplin along with their children Emily Katherine Miller and Luke Andrew Miller; a grandson, David Stinnett and wife Alison of Joplin along with their children, Sophia Grace Stinnett and John Mitchell Stinnett; her brother, Ronal Dale Campbell of Pierce City, Mo.; and many extended family and friends.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Madge’s caregivers who so lovingly attended to her in the past 1 ½ years. They are Carol Stephens, Audrey Mathery, Virginia Ryan, and the nurses and aids at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be Friday at First Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Pastor Jamie Tickel officiating. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with David Stinnett, Dr. Derek Miller, Doug Hauser, Dan Stanley, Jim Allan and Jerry Steele serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the mortuary.

Jim Fare

Rufus ‘Jim’ Fare, 79, Granby, died June 14, 2014 at his home in Granby, following a lengthy illness.

Jim was born Sept. 30, 1934 in Amy, MO and lived in Kansas City, Kansas prior to moving to Neosho in 1990 and lived in Granby the last seven years. Jim worked as a mail carrier for Wilcox Truck Lines prior to retirement. He was an avid fisherman, loved history, especially war and military history and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Silver Moon Full Gospel Church.

 Jim married Dixie Miller on Aug. 19, 1955 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 1989; he then married Ramona Ann (Miller) Fare on August 10, 1989 at Shawnee Mission, KS and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2012. Jim is survived by a daughter, Paula Louise Holmes; a son, Lester Donald (Nells) Fare; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by a son, James Raymond Fare in 2011.

Arthur Burgos

Arthur G. Burgos, age 69, Joplin, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.

Arthur was born September 14, 1944 in Dublin, Ireland, and moved to California as a child. He moved to Joplin in 1971, and worked for Vickers for several years before working at St. John’s as a Process QA, Maintenance Technician in the Radiology department for over 20 years before retiring. He was a member of Joplin Full Gospel Church, 26th and Indiana.

Survivors are his wife, Rosemary Burgos; daughter, Kelley Marie Leathers and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Jason Hoxie and Pastor John Myer officiating at Joplin Full Gospel Church.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Janice Blanchard

Janice Mae Blanchard was born Dec. 3, 1945 in Neosho, MO, the daughter of the late Eugene Terry and John Smiles and Ida Wright Smiles. She went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2014.

 She was married to Eugene Blanchard of Toledo, OH for 46 years. She graduated from Neosho High School in 1963 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, MO. Janice loved gardening, embroidery, sewing and researching family members history. She loved keeping up with the family newsletter getting out information to those who will benefit from them. She retired from Jobst Institute as a data analyst and was active in Women of the Old West End Association.

Helen Sanders

Mrs. Helen Louise Sanders, 91, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, after a brief illness.

Helen entered this life on April 2, 1923 in Joplin, Missouri, one of five children born to the late James A. and Della (Cox) McDonald. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1941 and received two years of nurses training at the former St. John’s School of Nursing. On December 16, 1942 she was united in marriage to James Robert Sanders and to this union two sons were born. She and James resided and raised their two sons in Webb City, Missouri. Helen was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She attended Villa Heights Christian Church and was past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-six years, James Sanders, Sr. on September 9, 1989; and four siblings.

Helen is survived by two sons, James R. Sanders, Jr. of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Joe W. Sanders and wife, Cyndee, of Joplin; two granddaughters, Jamie L. Spradling of Bryant, Arkansas and Jessica M. Sanders of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a great grandson, Eli Tygart; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Gaylene Franklin, age 53, of Lamar, MO passed Sunday June 15, 2014 after a short illness at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.

Gaylene was born July 1, 1960, at Lawrence, KS to Galen and Judith Horton. She graduated from Ottawa High School and was retired from Thorco Industries in Lamar, MO. She married LeRoy Franklin on May 12, 1986 at Lamar, MO.

Survivors include her husband LeRoy Franklin Sr. of Lamar, MO; a son LeRoy Franklin Jr., Joplin, MO; a sister Sherry Worthington, Eudora Springs, KS; a brother Jay Ardahl, Overbrook, KS; two step sisters Cindy Cheek, Lawrence, KS and Julie Russel, Leawood, KS; step mother, Sharon Horton, Overland Park, KS; and step father, Jon Ardahl, Lecompton, KS.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Horton and mother, Judith Ardahl.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Oakton United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Oakton Cemetery.

Maxine Gibson

Maxine I Gibson, age 87, of rural Lamar, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, Saturday June 14, 2014.

Maxine was born November 15, 1926 in Delaware, Oklahoma to William Ocie and Goldie Marie (Quick) Raper. She was a homemaker and from the Cherokee Nation.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Jim and Mary Raper and a sister, Virginia Lee Davis, all of Lamar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Jack Raper; four sisters, Imogene Hukill, Pal Nadine Geblin, Joan Halcomb and an infant sister, Marie Raper.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday, June 18th at Daniel Funeral Home with Rusty Boyd officiating. She will be laid to rest at Morehead Cemetery.

Mary Miller

Mary E. Miller, age 104, of Lamar, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at Truman Healthcare Center where she had been a resident for the past five months.

     Mary was born November 12, 1909, at Sugar Grove, Arkansas, the fourth of eleven children of Henry and Mattie (Merriman) Hooper.  On January 9, 1932, at Fairfax, Oklahoma, she married the love of her life, Roy Miller and they had celebrated 59 years together before his death April 7, 1991.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and eight sisters.

     Roy and Mary worked many different jobs across the country to raise money to buy farmland, settling and raising their four children in Barton County west of Milford, moving to Lamar in 1962. In addition to farming, Mary had worked at Aaron’s Poultry, Fowler’s Café, owned and operated Irwin General Store, and Roy & Mary’s Café in Milford, worked at O’Sullivan Industries and Lamar Daycare Center.  “Granny” to family and friends alike, Mary was a natural care-giver, known for her Christian values, work ethic, the abundance of huge gardens she shared, and the home-cooked meals enjoyed by many around her table.  She enjoyed fishing, the fellowship of her Milford Christian Church family, and any activity that could be shared with her many grandchildren.  She was an avid card player.

     Survivors include four children, Dorothy (Dwight) Parks, Gerry (Brenda) Miller, Don (Jane) Miller all of Lamar, and Vicki Miller of Sarcoxie; a sister-in-law, Zelma (Mrs. H.C.) Hooper, Milford; ten grandchildren, Pam (Joe) Judd, Peg (Bill) Jeffries, Chip (Jerri) Miller, Brian (Cassie) Miller, Dave (Angie) Parks, Deana (Bill) Baker, Darin Parks, Denny (Russ) Massa, Mark Miller, and Matt (Lori) Miller; 32 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great grandchildren. 

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17^th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Norma Roberts

Norma Jean Roberts, age 79, a lifelong resident of Joplin, MO, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at her home while surrounded by her family.

 She was born on August 28, 1934 in Joplin, the daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth “Rigney” Smith. Norma married Bobbie Lee Roberts on April 10, 1959, he preceded her in death on December 25, 1993. She worked for Midcon Cables Co. until her retirement. She was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church, and the Thursday BSF group at Forest Park Baptist Church. She loved studying God’s word, working in her yard, and enjoyed many kinds of arts and crafts activities, especially when she was able to work on them with her grandkids. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Garry and Dale Smith. She is survived by three sons: Michael Roberts and his wife Opal, of Joplin; Richard Roberts and his wife Robin, of Joplin; and Steven Roberts and his wife Angela of Joplin; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary with Reverend Orville Garrison officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Norma’s grandsons: Chris Roberts, Craig Roberts, Danny Roberts, Dustin Roberts, Andrew Roberts and Chris Dart. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Margaret Keys

Margaret Keys joined our Savior on June 14, 2014 at her home in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

She was born October 18, 1923 in Cushing, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Angelo Moreno and Christina Zermano Moreno. Her family moved to Joplin, Missouri where she worked as a chief operator and supervisor with S.W. Bell Telephone in Camp Crowder, and then Joplin before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married Fred Keys in Tulsa in 1950, and retired from S.W. Bell after 40 years, and then moved to Bella Vista. Margo was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Joplin.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred Keys, her four children, Sandra Keys Croswell, Michael Keys, Penny Keys Walker, and Peter Keys, and their spouses, Doug Walker, Art Croswell, and Ling Keys; three grandchildren, Lindsey Walker, Michael Brewer, and Dawn Brewer Burkhart, 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Celia Lytle of Kansas City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary prior to her Funeral Mass on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father J. Friedel officiating.

Donna Wright

Donna Sue Erdman Wright, age 64, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing in Baxter Springs, Kansas after an extended illness.

Donna was born November 2, 1949 to Donald and Helen Greiwe Erdman in Higginsville, Missouri. She received her teaching degree from CMSU and taught elementary grades for 30 years. Donna was very involved in church as the organist and a Sunday school teacher. She volunteered at Senior Health Center in Bolivar, Missouri. Donna faithfully attended the morning class of Bible Study Fellowship of Joplin.

On March 18, 1972, Donna married David Wright in Warrensburg, Missouri. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include her mother, Helen Erdman of Higginsville, Missouri; daughter, Sharon Hackett and husband Brent of Miami, Oklahoma; grandsons, Ryan and Luke Hackett; sister, Denise Kirchhoff and husband Jeff of Higginsville, Missouri; brother, Russ Erdman and wife Diane of Alma, Missouri; nieces, nephew, extended family and friends that will greatly miss her.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, Missouri at 1:00 P.M.. Family will hold a graveside service the next day in Alma, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bible Study Fellowship International in care of the mortuary.

Jonathan Foster

Jonathan Ray Foster, 58, Joplin, died June 15, 2014 at his home in Joplin. Jonathan was born March 12, 1958 in Ft. Worth, TX, the son of Bob and June (Richards) Foster. He served in the U.S. Navy and was self-employed in the electronic industry. He was a member of the Woodward Avenue Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, AL. Jonathan is survived by a son, Eric Foster-Whiddon and wife, Vanessa, Moultrie, GA; his parents, Dr. Bob and June Foster, Neosho; a sister, Karen Martin and husband, Joe, Neosho and four grandchildren.

Larry Jones

Larry Dene Jones, age 66 of Joplin, passed away on Friday June 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family, following a long term illness.

 Larry was born on July 24, 1947 in Cassville, Mo., the son of Donald and Pauline (Cole) Jones, currently of Joplin. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1965. He graduated from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau, Mo .He served in the United States Air Force as a Sargent E-4 Security Police and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a long standing member of the Church of Christ. 

He married Loretta Sue Graham on April 12, 1981 in Exeter, Mo. Larry and Loretta had two children Truman born on November 21, 1982 and Tiffany on November 27, 1987. Larry had two children from a previous marriage, Doug born on November 28, 1973 and Jerimiah born on March 4, 1978. Larry was a teacher, he taught Industrial Tech at Aurora High School for nine years in Aurora, Mo., where he retired. He is survived by his parents, Donald and Pauline Jones, Joplin; his wife, Loretta Jones, Joplin; his sister, Linda Thomas and her husband Lowell, Springfield, Mo.; his four children, Doug Jones, Jerimiah Jones, both of Oklahoma, Truman Jones and wife Natalie, Branson, Mo., and Tiffany Jones, Joplin; and three grandchildren, Jerimiah’s son, Zach Jones, Truman and Natalie’s children, Alie Jones and Levi Jones.

 Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Greg Spink, Minister, will officiate. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the United Network For Oran Sharing or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the mortuary. Melvern Robertson

Melvern L. Robertson age 78 of Jasper, MO. passed away June 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Joplin.

 He was born December 11, 1935 in Squires, Missouri to Omer and Reba (Hailey) Robertson. Mel was a retired truck Driver. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and graduated with the class of 1954 at Lamar High School. Mel was united in marriage to Harriet Fitchpatrick on April 13, 1968 in Jasper, MO. . She preceded him in death on September 5, 2004.

 Survivors include two daughters, Becky Thomas and husband Mark of Garden City, MO. and Nancy Dockery and husband Aaron of Carthage, Mo.. Two brothers, Neil Robertson and Larry Robertson both of Lamar, MO.. One sister, Mable Connors of Lamar, Mo.. Five granddaughters, Cassy VanGilder, Crissy VanGilder, Shelby Dockery, Katelyn Dockery and Kelly Dockery.

Junior Avey

Herman “Junior” Avey, age 83, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his home in Joplin, Mo., after a long-term illness.

 Junior was born on April 20, 1931 in Picher, Ok., the son of Herman Avey, Sr. and Laura (Tolson) Avey. He graduated from Picher High School and drove a cab for his mother’s business until he entered the US Army. Junior married Madeline Heffnieder February 28, 1965, she survives. 

Additional survivors include one son, Phillip Avey and his wife Brenda, Joplin, Mo., and five daughters; Laurie Richie and husband Terry, Webb City, Mo., Paulette Eby and husband Mike, Joplin, Mo., Diana Coe and husband Cletis, Talala, Ok., Pam Tackett and husband Richard, Joplin, Mo., and Debbie Routledge and husband Jerry, Joplin, Mo.; seventeen grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step-son, Randy Reynolds in 1993. Junior was a member of Christpoint Church and he was a member of the Wild Bunch C.B. Club. He was a driver for C.F.I. for 15 years, prior to that he drove for Yellow Freight and Tri State.

 Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Christpoint Church, Joplin, Josh Pennington, Minister, officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, 7 – 8 p.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.

Roger Pruitt

Roger W. Pruitt, age 67, of Carthage, MO died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home in Carthage, MO. Mr. Pruitt was born in Miami, OK on Saturday, June 22, 1946. He was the son of Laura Hanna Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt married Ruth Filbeck on Saturday, December 28,1999, in Miami OK. Mr. Pruitt served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne Ranger in Vietnam. He was head of maintenance at St Luke's Hospital in Carthage before retiring.

Surviving are the following: his wife, Ruth, of the home; one son, Joshua Pruitt, of Joplin, MO; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. After visitation, Mr. Pruitt, at his request, will be cremated.

Ellen was born May 26, 1944 in Carthage, Mo. and had lived in Webb City the last 20 years. She was a Homemaker. Ellen married Alvin Dunn December 16, 1964 in Carthage, Mo. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Buening and husband David, Neosho, Mo., and Fay Davidson and husband John, Leavenworth, Ks., two sons, Alvin Dunn Jr. and wife Jeannie, El Dorado Springs, MO and Robert Dunn, Webb City, two brothers, Landon Ward, Webb City, and Jimmy Ward, Joplin, Mo. one sister, Patty, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin with Rev. Jarel Burnside officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.

Camille Niel

Camille L. Niel, 86, of Carterville, passed away the morning of June 12, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle. She is survived by her five daughters, Diane Vann and her husband Ron, Kathy Vann and her husband Raymond, Teresa Ihm and her husband, John, Julie Fleming and her husband Mike, Anita Daniel and her husband Kelly. Camille was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 15.

Camille was born March 22, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Emmett and Victoria Griffin. Soon after her birth, the family returned to Carterville. After graduating from Carterville High School she worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator, where she met the love of her life, Lyle. They were married November 13, 1948 and spent many years fishing and hunting together. Camille loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and farming on their property north of Carterville.

In her later years, she enjoyed golfing and golfed up until the last few months of her life. She loved and enjoyed dancing, traveling and playing with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for always having a song in her heart and was always singing or humming. The family will be hosting visitation at the Hedge Lewis Funeral home in Webb City Monday, June 16, at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by graveside services at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Linglong Li

Linglong Li, age 25 of Carthage, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Table Rock Lake as a result of an accidental drowning.

Born September 6, 1988 in China, she received her Bachelor Degree there and received her Master Degree from Oklahoma City University enabling her to teach English to students of other primary languages. She was an Adjunct Teacher at M.S.S.U. in Joplin. She was a Christian.

On September 18, 2013, she married Travis Shane Domanski in Joplin. He survives.

Additional survivors include her parents, Fuyuan Li and Baolan Zhang of China; two brothers, Haobong Li and Haofeng Li, both of China; and a sister, Lingjie Li of China.

Memorial services will be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Conference Room of Hilton Garden Inn, Joplin. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Parker Mortuary. Cremation will follow and the cremated remains will be interred in China.

Linglong Li was a very intelligent woman with a big heart, always smiling and happy. Everything she tried to do, she would master and she would excel in everything. She was very adventurous and enjoyed the outdoors, kayaking and hiking. She was constantly studying to improve herself in every area. She will be greatly missed.
