Joan Hoskin, age 75, Joplin, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Joan was born March 15, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph Manikas and Pearl Koviekis Manikas. She moved to Joplin in 1972 with her husband and three children.
Joan worked in administration for Tri-State Motor Transit, Joplin, for several years and was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Her hobbies included sewing; gardening; bowling; traveling; church friends and of course, cooking. But most important to her was her family. Her grandchildren and children meant everything to her. They, along with her extended family and close friends, will remember her smile, determination, desire to never give up, and how she always showed love and compassion to others.
Joan is survived by her husband, Gene; her children, Michael Hoskin and his wife, Anita, Atlanta, Georgia, James Hoskin and his wife, Kelli, Dover, New Hampshire, Sandra Tinney and her husband, Rusty, Joplin; siblings, Priscilla Michalowicz, Lori Mila and her husband, Ted, Joyce Segaritis, Don Manikas, Joyce Lyskawa, all from Chicago; grandchildren, Kaitlin Tinney, Amanda Tinney, Keegan Tinney, Shelby Edge, Jake Edge, Brittany Hawkins, Blake Hoskin, Ian Hoskin, Lucas Hoskin; one great granddaughter, River Hoskin; and her beloved puppy, Charlie.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the caring staffs of Freeman Medical and Freeman Cancer Center; as well as the many friends and extended family who offered their support and encouragement throughout the past 5 years.
A prayer service is planned for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. The family will receive friends immediately following at the mortuary. A funeral mass is planned for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Joplin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Justin Monaghan will officiate.
Joan will be taken to Chicago, Illinois for services and entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois, under the direction of Lawn Funeral Home, Burbank, Illinois.
