Mrs. Helen Louise Sanders, 91, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, after a brief illness.
Helen entered this life on April 2, 1923 in Joplin, Missouri, one of five children born to the late James A. and Della (Cox) McDonald. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1941 and received two years of nurses training at the former St. John’s School of Nursing. On December 16, 1942 she was united in marriage to James Robert Sanders and to this union two sons were born. She and James resided and raised their two sons in Webb City, Missouri. Helen was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She attended Villa Heights Christian Church and was past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-six years, James Sanders, Sr. on September 9, 1989; and four siblings.
Helen is survived by two sons, James R. Sanders, Jr. of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Joe W. Sanders and wife, Cyndee, of Joplin; two granddaughters, Jamie L. Spradling of Bryant, Arkansas and Jessica M. Sanders of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a great grandson, Eli Tygart; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Sanders are 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Minister Truman Brady officiating. Friends may pay their respects and sign the register on Sunday afternoon from 12-4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
