Larry Linn

(From Ulmer Funeral Home)

Herbert Larry Linn was born to Herbert O. and Gladys L. Coffman Linn on Jan. 14, 1945, in Miami, OK as the youngest sibling of four. Betty (Ralph) Mullen of Miami, OK, Robert (Janice) Linn of Grove, OK and Kenneth (Sharlotte) Linn of Fort Smith, AR survive along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins which he cherished.

He married Donna Martin in Miami, OK on December 23, 1967. Their family was blessed with two children: Michael Don (Amy) Linn and granddaughters Maggie and Zoe of Springfield, MO and Jennifer Ruth (Aaron) Little and grandsons Jude, Ezra, and Amos of Joplin, MO.

Larry wore many hats throughout his lifetime: son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, but his proudest title was a faithful follower of Christ who genuinely cared about people. He held his credentials with the Assemblies of God for a number of years, serving in numerous ministry capacities: interim pastor, Sunday school teacher, and multiple terms on church boards. He and his wife, Donna, even served as missionary assistants outside Window Rock, AZ shortly after they were married. Much of his service was behind the scenes, necessary, but unseen by most.

Professionally, Larry operated a semi-tractor with over a million miles to his credit. He earned his Specialist Degree in Education from Missouri State University and began his education career teaching students to build cabinets and furniture in the Golden City, MO. He pursued school administration there and in Carthage, and ultimately retired as Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Carthage. He also served as President of the Missouri Association of Business Officials.

In his free time, Larry enjoyed working with his hands, bringing salvage vehicles back to life, building furniture and cabinets, traveling, and keeping his lawn in tip top shape. He didn't like to be in the limelight, but was always willing to lend a hand in anyway he could. He had a quick wit and liked to joke, but was just as quick to offer bits of wisdom and encouragement. To those who knew him best, he was a loyal friend, a faithful and loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, a hunter, a golfer, and motorcycle rider. He lived life to the fullest, but always kept his commitments to God, family, and friends in focus.

Private family services will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2020 in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK due to Covid-19.

Larry will lie in state on Monday, November 30, from 11:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. at Ulmer Funeral Home for anyone who would like to pay their respects and sign the guest book.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Ella Marie loved children and baby sat for 30 years. She also worked at Big Smith for two years. She was known for baking chocolate chip cookies for her children. When the school bus dropped them off, they would head for the kitchen . . . so would the rest of the kiddos that got off at the same stop. She was also a seamstress and made many outfits for her family and others. Ella loved flowers, so she always had flower gardens and would share her bounty with friends.

Ella Marie was saved and baptized on September 17, 1960 at Grand Avenue Church of God. Later, she renewed her faith at Victory Baptist Church.

After graduation, Ella and the love of her life, Roger Leaming, were united in marriage at her parent’s country home. Lois Jean and Pat were long-time members of the Cardin and Quapaw Christian churches. They both graduated from Picher High School in 1948. Soon after graduating, Lois took a job with Southwestern Bell as a switch board operator. She later worked for Grants and TG&Y in Miami, OK for 9 years. However, her passion was to be a homemaker and she centered her life around her kids and grandkids. She taught Sunday school classes at both Cardin and Quapaw.

Pat worked at some kind of job for most of his ninety years of life. He began work delivering groceries in Hockerville and Picher at the age of 12. While in high school, he worked at the Ice Plant in Picher, OK, delivering ice throughout the community. Pat played football for the Picher Gorillas, and was the quarterback for the 1947-48 campaigns. After graduation, Pat spent some time in California before landing a job in Roseburg, OR at a lumber mill. He married the love of his life; Lois, in 1950.

After almost 4 years in Roseburg, Pat and Lois moved back to Picher, OK. In 1963, as the family continued to grow, they bought a bigger house and moved to Quapaw where they lived until their death. Pat retired at the age of 55 from Sperry Rand Vickers. Pat and Lois spent five years traveling together before Pat ended his retirement and returned to work in the sporting goods department at WalMart in Miami, and later worked for the Ottawa County Assessor’s Office.

Pat understood the value of hard work, loyalty and faithfulness. Lois loved her family greatly, and there was no sacrifice that she wouldn’t make for her loved ones. Pat and Lois lived their lives richly, and their love for others was rewarded by a heritage of family and friends who loved them dearly. They will be greatly missed.

After almost seventy years of marriage together and loving a long, fruitful life on this earth, Pat and Lois are now together in Heaven, reunited with beloved family members who have gone before. Pat has probably found some odd jobs to do outside, and Lois is likely preparing a home-cooked meal, where she may or may not be adding some extra sugar and salt to the pot!
