(From Konantz Warden Funeral Home)Roberta Mae Braxdale passed away on Friday November 20, 2020. She was born on August 9, 1925 in Liberal, MO to Luther and Syble(Griffith) Miller.
Roberta married George Johnson in Girard, KS on January 13, 1946. He passed away in 1961. In 1963 she married Grover Braxdale in Kansas City, KS. They remained married until his death in 1985.
Roberta worked as a seamstress and then as a homemaker but could be best categorized as a Professional Volunteer. She volunteered at the Blood Bank for 20 years, Girl Scouts for 22 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years, and volunteered at the Ozark Bible College Senior Citizen Campus for 7 years.
She was a member of and a volunteer with the Red Hat Society, VFW, American Legion, and Rebeccas where she retired after holding all of the offices in the organization. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lamar, MO where she served in many areas. Roberta enjoyed her plants, especially African Violets and Christmas Cactus, watching birds and Russel Stover Chocolates. She will be missed.
She is survived by her sister Naomi Ortiz of Bartlesville, OK; three daughters, Janet Hughes of Denver, CO, Regina Johnson of Webb City, MO, and Pamela Harrington of Joplin, MO; six grandchildren, Scott (Rachel) Hughes, Brian Johnson, Tessie (Donny) Beck, Raeth (Kadee) Johnson, Ryan (Todd) Lacen, and Lauren Harrington. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Eric, Jacob, Jake, Chayton, Mindy Jo, Tanner, Allie, Ashlee, Dixie, Trenton, and Trevor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and her sons Monte Johnson and Rick Johnson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
A visitation at 10 AM followed by an 11 AM funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 24, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Lamar, MO. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
