Jack Whited

Jack Leon Whited, 83, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Joplin Gardens.

Jack was born May 7, 1937, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Carl Cobalt Whited and Ollie Lee (Welch) Whited. Jack lived in the Joplin area for most of his life.

Jack worked as a machinist for Midwest Machinery for over 43 years before retiring in January 2000. 






 

Jack had a passion for music. He loved to play the guitar and for several years played with Cactus Jack and the Countryboys. He was also very proud of Cactus Jacks Opry, a venue he helped establish. He loved to encourage others to play and would often invite them on stage to play along with him. He was an avid softball player, enjoyed fishing and loved to ride horses.

Jack was a fifty year plus member of Joplin Lodge #335, A.F. & A.M., the Baxter Springs Saddle Club and the CB radio group Cherokee County React. He cherished the special memories created with family and the time spent with them. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jack was united in marriage to Jean Grey on June 24, 1955, in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2017.

Jack was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Whited and seven siblings.

Jack is survived by his children, Mike Whited and wife, Cathy, Mark Whited and wife, Shirley, Sue Murdock and husband, Wayne; nephew, Bobby R. Cooper; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Chad DeGonia will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin. Masonic services will be held Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with visitation to follow.
