Janice Baker

(From Parker Mortuary)

Janice Baker was born on June 28, 1944, in Joplin, Missouri, and passed away on June 19, 2026, in the same community she called home throughout her life.

Janice lived a life marked by love, strength, and quiet devotion to the people and simple joys that mattered most to her. She was a Christian woman whose faith was an important part of her life, and she carried herself with kindness, grace, and a steady spirit that touched those around her. She was known by family and friends as a loving and intelligent woman, someone who cared deeply for others and who met life with both warmth and wisdom.

Janice found great happiness outdoors, especially when she was camping with her family. Those times together created memories that her loved ones will always treasure. She also had a special love for her garden, where she spent time working with care and patience. When her gardening was finished, she would often sit and watch the birds as they came into the fresh garden area, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature. These simple pleasures reflected the gentle and contented way she lived her life.

She leaves surviving three brothers, Rick Henson of Carl Junction, Missouri, Randy Henson of Joplin, Missouri, and Dennis Henson and Traci of Oronogo, Missouri. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, alongside her six grandchildren whom she adored. Her love for her family was deep and enduring, and she took great pride in the people who carried her legacy forward.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Cordelia (Ragan) Henson, her two sons, Jimmy Baker and Jeffrey Baker, and one grandson, Christopher Baker. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frankie Henson and Billy Henson, and four sisters, Clydene Angel, Colleen McMillan, Linda Hoag, and Bonnie Olds. These losses were deeply felt, yet Janice remained a source of strength and love to those around her throughout her life.

Those who knew Janice will remember her for her loving heart, her intelligence, and the calm presence she brought into every room. She valued family, cherished time spent together, and found meaning in the everyday moments that made life beautiful. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her, and she will be remembered with great affection and respect.

Janice Baker’s life was a testament to devotion, resilience, and love. Though she is no longer with us, the legacy she leaves behind will continue through her family, her friendships, and the many cherished memories she created over the years.

Anyone wishing to leave a memorial contribution in honor of Mrs. Bakers may make donations to American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116

She received a master's degree in Secondary Education in 1976 from Pittsburg University in Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Gloria taught Vocational Business Education at Joplin Technical School and Webb City High School. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1987 with Jim and continued to teach at high schools and college. She taught for over 20 years and enjoyed every class.

While in Charlotte, she was the secretarial assistant to the Vice President of First Federal before moving to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1995. She took another secretarial assistant position to the Vice President for Greenfield Industries and retired in 2020, although she kept up her shorthand after that.

Gloria and Jim were very active in the American Legion in Bella Vista for many years. Gloria served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary for three terms as well as District President for two terms. She was Recording Secretary for the Veterans Council of NWA for eight years. Gloria prepared names to be placed on Wall of Honor and developed its name directory. If you haven't visited the Wall of Honor in Bella Vista, it's worth the trip.

Gloria and Jim traveled a lot over the years and enjoyed each new adventure. They took cruises, traveled with Boy Scouts and spent many trips visiting grandchildren for holidays, birthdays, and graduations. Ask her grandchildren about their favorite car ride or trip with her; they all shared many wonderful memories together.

As Fern got older and later Jim became ill, Gloria became their caregiver. She was thankful for help from her son Brent and daughter-in-law Janice. She later died in her sleep at Circle of Life in Bentonville from complications from lung cancer.

Gloria loved her family and friends fiercely and made time for them over and over again. She also enjoyed beating you at cards, fishing, reading, horses, dogs, and country music. She never shied away from telling you what she thought with a witty comment or sly burn. Somehow it was her way of loving you. We will miss her dearly.

Thank you for joining us to remember Gloria.
