(From Parker Mortuary)Debra Jane Burgess, known lovingly to family and friends as Debi, passed away on July 23, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 67. She was born on June 16, 1959, in Joplin, Missouri, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a deep love for the people who surrounded her.
Debi was a woman whose gentle spirit and caring heart touched many lives. She was known for being loving and thoughtful, and those qualities were reflected in the way she treated her family, her friends, and everyone she met. Her life was centered on the people she loved most, and she found her greatest joy in being present for them through every season of life.
After graduating from high school, Debi continued her education for two more years of college and earned her cosmetology license. She went on to work in cosmetology for many years, where she built lasting relationships that grew into true and enduring friendships. Her work was more than a profession to her, as it was a way to connect with others, offer encouragement, and share her warm personality with the people she served.
Debi was a Christian, and her faith was an important part of her life. She carried herself with grace and compassion, and her faith helped shape the way she loved and cared for others. She spent as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren, watching every moment and treasuring the memories they made together. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in each of them.
She is survived by her loving children, April Underwood and Jason of Carl Junction, MO, Adam Ogle and Michelle of Shelbina, MO, and Kristen Mishmash and Kyle of Wichita, KS. She is also survived by her siblings, Michael Moudy and Cindy of Carl Junction, MO, Randy Long of Joplin, MO, and Sonya Long of Carl Junction, MO. She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Jaxon, Jaden, Skyler, Leila, Milo, and Jailyn, and one great-grandchild, Weston. Her family will forever cherish the love, guidance, and steady presence she gave so freely.
Debi was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Moudy, her mother and stepfather, Susan (Montgomery) Long and Charles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tyler Ogle, whom she wed on January 14, 1982, in Miami, OK. She later married Robin Burgess in Carl Junction, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2023. These losses were deeply felt, yet Debi carried the memory of those she loved with tenderness and strength.
Debi’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, family, and faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to all who were blessed to know her.
Celebration of Life services will take place on Friday, July 31 at the Parker Mortuary Chapel at 6 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Joplin Humane Society, 140 E. Emperor Ln. Joplin, MO 64801
