(From Fohn Funeral Home)James Edward “Jim” Smith, age 73, of Shell Knob, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at his son's home in Oklahoma.
He was born August 31, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Jack and Leona (Petot) Smith. On June 19, 2004 in Cassville, Missouri he was united in marriage to Janet G. “Jan” Reid, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2017. Also preceding him in death were his parents.
Surviving are his sons, Steven Smith and wife Katrina of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Brian Smith and wife Christina of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Jennifer Stephens and husband John of St. Louis, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way.
Jim grew up in St. Louis, where he attended school and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He was employed by Maritz as a shipping coordinator, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement. Jim moved to Shell Knob and served for several years as a jailer with the Barry County Sheriff's Department. He had made his home in Shell Knob for the past 30 years.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking and hunting. He loved the simple things in life and the time he spent with family and friends. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 20, 2026, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Rick Cooper and Mick Epperly will conduct the services.
