(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Gary Dewayne Batson, 69, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, July 20, 2026, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born on May 12, 1957, in Chillicothe, Missouri, to the late Roy and Etta (Jewell) Batson. Gary was raised and graduated high school in Chillicothe, Missouri.
Following high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully for more than 20 years. His military career reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to service. He retired honorably after a long and distinguished career, having given much of his life in service to his nation. After his honorable discharge, he made his home in Joplin, Missouri, where he managed 1111 Mini Storage for several years.
Gary enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and found happiness in the things that brought him peace and enjoyment. He loved fishing, spending time visiting area casinos, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He is survived by his two children, Trevor Batson of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Brianna Batson and her companion, Makaila Buchanan, of Webb City, Missouri, as well as a host of other family and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Etta (Jewell) Batson, and by his brother, Mike Batson.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
