Dave Harris

David Sterling “Dave” Harris, age 66, of Wheaton, Missouri, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026.

He was born December 6, 1959, in Independence, Missouri, to Johnny and Geneva (Birkes) Harris. On March 23, 1989, in Wheaton, he married Suzan Stewart, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, David John Harris of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Daniel Robert Harris and wife Ashley of Olympia, Washington; daughters, Kelli Harris of Cassville, Missouri, Sheena Bittle and husband Tim of Exeter, Missouri, and Kirstyn Lydia Harris of Cassville, Missouri; sister, Karen Harris Larkin of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Garrett, Jaiden, Jacob, Keegan, Jozy, Kloe, Dalton, and Dylan; and great-grandchildren, Emory and Ellis.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Deborah Harris.

Dave graduated from Terranova High School in Pacifica, California and made Wheaton his home in 1977. He owned and operated Wheaton Locker Service for 11 years. He later spent 25 years at Schreiber Cheese in Monett, retiring earlier this year.

Dave dedicated 37 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Wheaton Fire Department and proudly served as mayor of Wheaton. His commitment to serving others, strong work ethic, and willingness to help wherever needed left a lasting mark on his community.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, antiquing, blacksmithing, and working with his hands. Whether creating something in his shop, or spending time outdoors, Dave took pride in a job well done and appreciated life's simple pleasures.

Above all, Dave loved his family. He cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for his generous heart, his smile and infectious sense of humor. He was a member of Ridgley Baptist Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Wheaton Southern Baptist Church in Wheaton, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wheaton Fire Department in memory of Dave.
