(From Parker Mortuary)Florida Penias Hedgar, born on October 19, 1966, in Pohnpei, Micronesia, passed away on June 21, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, after an extended illness. She was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by devotion to her family, a strong work ethic, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Florida was the daughter of the late John and Reiko (Penias) Hedgar. She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and responsibility, values that remained at the center of her life. She was a Christian and carried her beliefs with quiet strength and grace. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman who faced life with courage, kindness, and determination, even during difficult times.
She graduated from high school and later attended college, reflecting her commitment to learning and personal growth. Throughout her life, Florida worked in a variety of jobs and was best known for her time at Sam’s Club, where she worked as a stocker. She took pride in staying busy and doing honest work, and she was respected for her reliability and steady presence. Her work ethic was one of the many ways she showed care for those around her, and she found purpose in being productive and helpful.
Florida especially enjoyed being around her family. She loved hanging out with her loved ones and treasured the time spent together, whether in everyday moments or special gatherings. Her home and her heart were open to those she loved, and she found joy in the simple blessings of family life. She was known for being generous, selfless, and courageous, qualities that were evident in the way she lived and in the way she cared for others.
She is survived by her sons, Floyd Silbanus, Jimmy Silbanus, Francis Tkel, and Derick Hedgar. She also leaves behind her brother, Kolden Hedgar; her sisters, Elsihter Fredrick, Atrihter Panuelo, Plomina Eneriko, and Simanihter Cliffe; numerous grandchildren; and a large extended family who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. Her family was a source of great pride and joy to her, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. She is preceded in death by a son, A.P. Hedgar.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Florida will be flown home for burial in her home country of Micronesia.
