(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Brenda Joyce (Pickering) Kirkup, age 79, died at her home on Monday, July 27, 2026. Ms. Kirkup was a life-long resident of southwest Missouri, spending more than 60 years in the Springfield area before relocating to Joplin.
Born and raised in Willard, Brenda graduated from Willard High School and remained a part of the local community as she raised her children. She worked as a Cashier for the State of Missouri License Bureau on Park Central Square for nearly 25 years before retirement. She was a stubborn, yet sweet soul who enjoyed exploring flea markets, playing with her pets, and spending time with her grandchildren. She found contentment in the routine of her home life.
Brenda is survived by her two children, Tony (Marcie) Kirkup of Springfield; and Terri (Joe) Kowis of Joplin; three grandchildren; and life-long friend Kathy Tyler of Galena, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan Walter and Jean Elizabeth Pickering; sisters Dana “Dede” Hobbs and Carole Ann Stout; and a brother, Steven Bruce (Noel) Pickering.
No service or visitation is planned consistent with the wishes of Ms. Kirkup.
