(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Linda Carol Falis, 83, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Carol was born on May 12, 1943, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Chester Arthur Born and Verlie Vernice (Pruitt) Born. She spent her childhood growing up in McAlester, Oklahoma, where she developed the strong values, resilience, and sense of humor that would remain with her throughout her life.
On September 7, 1962, she married Clifford Falis in McAlester. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and love until his passing on July 27, 1998. Though she deeply missed him, Carol carried forward with grace and strength, remaining a source of comfort and encouragement to those around her.
Carol found joy in life's simple pleasures. She lovingly cared for her plants and could spend hours of happiness shopping for new and interesting greenery to take home. She enjoyed watching baseball, loved animals of all kinds, and had a special place in her heart for her beloved Chiweenie, Dixie. She was also blessed with many creative skills such as sewing, knitting, crocheting and woodworking. Above all, Carol treasured laughter. She had a remarkable gift for finding humor in any situation and sharing that joy with others. Her quick wit, warm smile, and ability to lift spirits will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Falis; her parents, Chester Arthur Born and Verlie Vernice (Pruitt) Born; two great-grandchildren, Jachob Hurt and Scout Hurt; and her sister, Patricia Nell Herman.
Carol leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Shelly Williamson of Atmore, Alabama, and Terri Falis-Cochran and husband Keith Cochran of Joplin, Missouri; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her dear friend, Michael Jarman of Joplin, Missouri; and her faithful furry companion, Dixie.

While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the countless memories Carol leaves behind. Her gentle nature, her kindness and her sense of humor will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the stories we share, and the love she gave so freely.
Carol will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. A celebration of life will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri on Thursday, August 6th at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place on Friday, August 7th at Memory Gardens Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma. Another celebration in Carol’s honor will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri or to a giraffe rescue program. If Carol taught us anything, it was to cherish our loved ones, care for all living things, and never miss an opportunity to laugh.
