Linda Wilson

(From Ulmer Funeral Home)

When Linda Wilson told you to do something you did it. No questions asked. It was usually for your own good.

From a young age she was a force of nature. To say Linda was competitive is an understatement. Instead of dolls, Linda played with toy horses, building corrals, and stables for them. When her older sister Alice left for college, Linda snuck into her room and threw each of her porcelain dolls down the stairs, breaking them all!

Linda inherited her competitive spirit from her father and together they owned, showed, and bred quarter horses for halter, western pleasure, cutting, and racing. She often spoke proudly of breeding to the great AQHA sire Three Bars.

It was at a horse show in the mid 1960’s that Linda saw her first Australian Shepherd and later, the famous rodeo entertainer Jay Sisler and his team of Aussies.

By 1968 Briarbrook Kennel was founded.

As a breeder, owner and handler, Linda bred countless AKC and ASCA Champions, National Specialty winners and performance titled Aussies. Briarbrook is a USASA and ASCA Hall of Fame Kennel that also produced four Westminster Keneel Club Best of Breed winners. Linda’s AKC ASCA Ch Briarbrook’s Silver Sequence remains the top producing dam of all time, while her son AKC Ch Briarbrook’s Valedictorian to date is the top producing sire for the breed.

Despite her many personal achievements, Linda was most proud of her involvement and efforts to achieve AKC recognition for the Australian Shepherd. Along with a small group of long-time breeders, Linda put her reputation on the line to see that dream realized on April 15, 1991. She was a founding member of The United States Australian Shepherd Association.

In recognition of this early work and sacrifice, Linda and eight other founding members were presented lifetime memberships to USASA.

Briarbrook Kennel has been synonymous with outstanding Australian Shepherds for decades. Through Linda’s intelligence, keen eye and boundless passion, Briarbrook has become the foundation for countless successful breeders today. One would be hard pressed to find an extended pedigree that did not contain at least one Briarbrook ancestor.

Linda’s family considered her an animal whisperer, and this applied to her love of cats as well. Her feline companions were mostly strays which included her beautiful calico “Callie”, rescued one day at a dog show. Callie became the dog show cat, traveling thousands of miles in the motorhome with a string of winning Aussies. But Linda also had a passion for purebreds and was rarely without a Siamese. She loved their talkative spirit that was exhibited by her current “Josie”. Anyone that spoke to Linda by phone got the honor of conversing with Josie as well!

Linda lived the concept of ‘talk less, watch more’. Her eyes were always open to the world around her and she rarely voiced an opinion until it mattered. When she did, everyone listened. She had a mischievous spirit and a cultivated sense of humor, with a talent for planting educational seeds of information. She was a quiet and powerful force. Linda was a mentor to countless breeders. Past and present.

Linda’s life was committed to the protaction and advancement of the breed she loved. She leaves a legacy of leadership, mentorship and outstanding progeny that will keep the Australian Shepherd alive and well for generations to come. Her impact and influence will live on, but her daily presence will be deeply missed by her immediate and extended family she held dear.

Linda was preceded in death by her father Robert Wilson, her mother Mildred Wilson, and her brother John Danner, Jr. She is survived by her sister Alice Mohr; her nieces Christina Mohr Guerreiro, Diana DeAraujo, Kimber Shields; her nephew Eric Danner; and many beloved extended family members.

Kylee Baldwin

(From Ferry Funeral Home)

Kylee Marie Baldwin passed away unexpectedly at her home March 18, 2023, at the age of 33. Kylee was born Jan. 17, 1990, the oldest daughter of four children in Nevada, Mo., to Kelly Tally (Forrester) and Roy Baldwin. She grew up in Nevada, Mo., where she attended Nevada High School, and graduated in 2008.

Kylee was one of the strongest women you could possibly know. The obstacles that she overcame throughout her life were more than any one person should ever have to endure in a lifetime. She, however, hit life with a headstrong attitude, and lived life to the fullest regardless of any pain or health issues that she had.

Kylee became a mother in the winter of 2006 to a full of life little girl, Natalie. Having Natalie at a young age, they grew together and became the best of friends. In September of 2022, Ky became a grandma. Oh, how she loved that child. She spent most of her days taking care of Mersadies while Natalie was in school.

Kylee, being the oldest child of four kids was also known as the “willld and crazzzzzey” sister, even chasing her little brother around the house with a set of rabbit ear antennas. Anything to torment her little brother and sisters. Kylee was also an aunt to several nieces and nephews and loved them all deeply. They all loved spending time with their Aunt Ky Ky and she would spoil them in any way she could.

Kylee totally enjoyed the outdoors. Regardless of what it was, she wanted to be there. Going to the races with her dad when she was young, riding around hunting for coyotes, playing in the mud or having a bonfire with the family. Having the family all together was a huge joy of hers. Playing silly games, or just anything for a laugh.

Kylee always had a goofy joke to tell, she would tell it, laughing hysterically while everybody just looked at her like she was crazy, and then laugh at her because she got so tickled. If she was watching a video on her phone….which was ALL the time….she would share it to social media. They may contain something she thought was a great life hack, a cool song, a tasty recipe, or a joke.

Kylee was always trying new recipes that she saw on line somewhere. Most of the time those recipes were amazing, of course she was an amazing cook as well. She was an avid Denver Broncos fan….and in a family of KC Chiefs fans….it was comical. She also enjoyed watching college football. Alabama was her team of choice.

Kylee Marie had a love for life that was unmeasurable. She wanted to live it the best way she possibly could. Regardless of the day, the pain, the health issues, the weather, it made no difference. She made the best of every day.

Kylee Marie is survived by a daughter, Natalie, of the home; a granddaughter, Mersadies; her parents, Roy Baldwin (Shanna), Deerfield, Mo., and Kelly Tally (Brian) Nevada, Mo.; Grandmother Carol Holt, Fort Scott, Kan.; Grandmother Willie Forrester, Nevada, Mo.; Grandpa Lawrence Tally, Nevada, Mo.; brothers and sisters, Brett Tally, Fort Scott, Kan., Susanna Bailey (Jason) Fayetteville, Ark., Brandon Baldwin (Jordan) Nevada, Mo., Chloe Baldwin (Zac) Lamar, Mo., Christopher Lamb (Kalia) Fort Scott, Kan., Megan Hallam (Shane) Nevada, Mo., Austin Tally (Shayla) Lamar, Mo., Dalton Baldwin (Makayla) Deerfield, Mo., and Anica Urquidez (Gavin) Silverdale, Wash.; aunts and uncles, Frederica (Froggy) Weaver (Steve Darnell) Milo, Mo., Debbie Douglas (Ben) Moundville, Mo., and Deano Forrester (Misty) Nevada, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Grandfather Gary Forrester; Grandma Nadine and Grandpa Gene Baldwin; Grandmother Pat Tally; sister, Samantha Barnard; and three nephews, Brayden, Teagen, and Bishop.

Kylee, we know that you will be watching over us to make sure we do it right. We will forever love and miss you. May you rest in peace baby girl.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 8 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
