Marvin Johnston

Marvin Monroe Johnston of Miami, OK slipped peacefully into eternity surrounded by his family at his home in Miami, OK, following a long illness on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. He was 90.

Marvin was born April 13, 1932 in Southwest City, MO to Parker G. and Cleo Ninette (Mitchell) Johnston. He had lived in the Miami area all his life. He was a proud Korean Conflict Veteran, serving his country in the Army while stationed in Germany. He was a Teamster, retiring from Yellow Freight in Baxter Springs, KS. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami, OK , Knights of Columbus in Miami, OK and American Legion Post 147 of Miami, OK.







Marvin enjoyed and won trophies for his skills in horseshoes and bowling.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life of sixty four years, his wife Barbara Baldridge Johnston on June 25, 2021, grandson Matt Johnston, granddaughters Kayla Russell and Barli Campbell, great granddaughter Ava White, great grandson Damion Lansaw his parents, Parker and Cleo Ninette Johnston, brothers, Junior Johnston, Virgil Johnston, Hubert Johnston, Floyd Johnston, Jim Johnston and Dale Johnston, sisters, Thelma Walker, Mary Fahnestock and Pearl Atkinson.

Marvin is survived by 2 sons, Tim Johnston and wife Paula of Miami, OK and Mark Johnston and wife Tonya of Miami, OK, 3 daughters, Brenda Johnston of Miami, OK, Laura Boyd and Tim of Neosho, MO and Sheila Johnston of Miami, OK, 1 brother, Eldon Johnston of Miami, OK, 36 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.







Funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami, OK. Interment will be in Ottawa Indian Cemetery, east of Miami, OK. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 147 Funeral Detail. 

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Aaron Johnston, Clint Boyd, Chad Johnston, Mitchell Johnston, Andrew Sheyers and Joshua Campbell. Brycen Johnston and Kyle Beelie will serve as Honorary pallbearers. Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami, OK and visitation will follow at the church until 8:00 p.m.
