Wilma Massey

Wilma Ann Massey, 83 years old from Joplin, Mo passed from this life peacefully on March 17, 2023 at the Solace House in Joplin. She was born in Joplin, Mo on March 7, 1940 daughter of the late Jack L Tate and Livicia (Vi) S Tate-Hough. Her sister also preceded her in death, Francis M Gambill.

Survivors include Bob Massey, husband, Rick Massey, son, Rhonda Massey - Hill daughter. Grandchildren include Jessica and Joe Nothum, Emily and Grant Taylor, Joshua and Lauren Massey, Cheyenne and Austin Huscher, Olivia and Isaac Schoeber, Harley and Logan Hill, Joe and Melanie Massey. Great grandchildren include Rebecca, Jolie and Isla Nothum, Charleston and Mayer Taylor, Calihan and Collins Schoeber, Navy and Ozzie Hill.








Wilma always wanted to be a nurse and after graduating from Joplin high school in 1958 she attended nursing school and became an LPN nurse. She worked first at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin then she took time off to raise her children. She then worked for the Joplin city health department. She retired from the health department in December 2016.

Wilma loved her family, nursing, pets, birds and flowers. It seemed there were always stray dogs and cats in her care and the local birds seemed to be very comfortable in her presence. When it came to her grandchildren however she was always first to arrive and last to leave!








She also had the strongest of work ethics. Always a nurse, helping those in need. Her legacy will include her dedication to family, nursing, hospitality and generosity.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Visitation at Mason-Woodard will be Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 6PM - 7PM.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
