Sharon Richards

Sharon Sue Richards, known to many simply as Sharon, passed away on July 22, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 82.

She was born on November 29, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, to Elsworth Bud Lukey and Ruth Ann (Hamm) Lukey. Sharon grew up surrounded by the love of her family and carried those early values with her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Fred Richards, and her siblings, John Lukey, Paul Lukey Sr., and Nancy Lukey.

After graduating from high school, Sharon enrolled in bible college and completed the next four years before graduating. Her education helped shape the steady faith and strong sense of purpose that guided her through life. She was a devoted woman whose beliefs were reflected not only in her words, but in the way she lived each day.

Sharon spent most of her time trying to help others. She was the kind of person who noticed when a neighbor needed a hand and never hesitated to step in. She helped many of the people around her, often watching their children while they worked to provide for their families. Her kindness was practical, consistent, and deeply felt by those who knew her. She was selfless in every sense, always putting the needs of others before her own.

For more than fifty years, Sharon was a devoted member of Faith Tabernacle Church. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was always willing to help in any way she could to care for the other members of her church family. She gave of herself freely and faithfully, and her presence was a comfort and blessing to many. Those who worshiped alongside her will remember her as a loving and generous woman whose actions spoke as loudly as her faith.

Sharon was also a military wife, and she carried that role with strength and grace. Through the many seasons of life, she remained devoted to her family and found great joy in the time she spent with her loved ones. She especially cherished her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and who brought light and happiness to her days.

She is survived by her two children, James Richards and Tami of Joplin, Missouri, and Ruth Bolton and Charles of Joplin, Missouri. She is also survived by one brother, Bob Lukey and Millie of California. Her family will remember her for her loving heart, her generous spirit, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.

Sharon Sue Richards will be remembered for her legacy that will live on in the family she cherished, the church she served, and the many lives she helped along the way.

The visitation for Sharon Sue Richards will take place at the Parker Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will take place on Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. at the Osborne Cemetery with Pastor Twyla Johnson officing and burial will follow.
