Dan Payne

Daniel "Dan" Judd Payne, age 82, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on July 4, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Dan was born on August 25, 1943, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Wilmer Harold Payne and Mildred Lucille (Schilb) Payne. He graduated from Bolivar High School with the Class of 1961. On November 23, 1962, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann "Ann" May, in Bolivar, Missouri, beginning a marriage that spanned more than 63 years.









Dan managed the Lamar Supermarket for his parents for many years and later worked as a self-employed electrical pole inspector for various electric cooperatives throughout Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He was a member of the Lamar Metro Club, Masonic Lodge, and proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for many years. He was also a member of The United Methodist Church in Bolivar, Missouri. Dan had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and making memories with family and friends.

Above all, Dan cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, generous spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Payne of the home; one son, Judd (Becky) Payne of Lamar; one daughter, Ashley (Clay) Cole of Lake Ozark, Missouri; six grandchildren, Rachel (Wesley) Budd, Cade Payne (Kyle Gabrielson), Molly (Angel) Contreras, Courtney "Amanda" (Ian) Prater, Camryn (Christian) Arndt, and Tara-Kanita (Cass) White; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Paula) Payne of Ozark, Missouri, and Todd (Lori) Payne of Lamar, Missouri; one sister, Susan (Don) Medlin of Lamar, Missouri; along with many extended family members and friends.








He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Todd Adam Payne; and two sisters, Judy Redford and Linda Payne.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
