Larry Allen

(From Lockwood Funeral Chapel)

Lawrence Gene “Larry” Allen, of Lockwood, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on June 30, 2026 at the age of 81.

Larry was born on May 13, 1945, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Lyle and Phyllis Griffith Allen.

Larry spent his early years in Hopkinton, Iowa, where he attended grade school and was baptized at First Presbyterian Church. In 1957, his family moved to Lockwood, Missouri, where his parents established Allen Quarries. Larry graduated from Lockwood High School in 1962 and immediately began working full-time at the family quarry. Over the next 65 years, he devoted his career to the business he loved. As owner of Allen Quarries, Larry took great pride in continuing the family legacy, building a reputation for hard work, integrity, and commitment to his customers, community, and church.

On December 3, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Marsha “Chipper” Probert, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they built a life grounded in family, faith, and community.

While building his life and career in Lockwood, Larry also answered the call to serve his country. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserve from 1965 to 1972, completing assignments at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Rucker, Alabama. He often shared stories about the record-breaking cold winter at Fort Rucker, where the barracks were never intended for freezing temperatures, water pipes froze, and the soldiers endured bitterly cold conditions.

Larry believed deeply in giving back to his hometown. Over the years, he served the City of Lockwood as both a councilman and mayor, totaling ten years of dedicated public service. He was an active member of the Lockwood Chamber of Commerce, served on numerous committees at Immanuel Lutheran Church, was a member of the Lockwood Rural Fire Department and the Rural Fire Board, belonged to the American Legion Roy E. Carr Post 372, and faithfully served on the Lockwood Cemetery Board. Larry jokingly referred to himself as the cemetery’s “real estate agent.”

Along with his service to family and community, Larry had many passions, but few rivaled his love of Pontiacs. Although he dearly loved Chipper, she often joked that her greatest competition was his beloved 1958 Pontiac Convertible. After owning a leaky convertible in high school, Larry traded for a 1964 Pontiac and began a lifelong involvement with the Pontiac hobby. Until this year, he faithfully attended the Pontiac International Convention and the annual OPW Homecoming Meet. He was also an active member of the Arkansas River Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International POCI and the 53 Pontiac and GMC Club of Arkansas, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Larry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, unwavering commitment to his community, his sense of humor, and his willingness to step forward whenever something needed to be done. More than anything, he cherished his family and the time he spent with them.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Marsha “Chipper” Allen; his three children, Greg Allen and Chris Allen, both of Lockwood, Missouri, and Jennifer Isdell of Concordia, Missouri; and his six cherished grandchildren, Tate Allen, Madison Allen, Lauren Allen, RoxSanna Allen, Ian Isdell, and Owen Isdell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Phyllis Allen; his brother, Bob Allen; and his son-in-law, Brad Isdell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Lockwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lockwood Fire Department or to the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehab Foundation. Services are under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.
