(From Knell Mortuary)Thomas Richard Huntley, age 65, Carthage, Missouri, known lovingly as Tom, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mount Vernon, Missouri. Tom was born on April 8, 1961, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late George C. Huntley and Helen J. (Steward) Huntley.
He was a 1979 graduate of Carthage High School, and he carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and service with him throughout his life. Those who knew him remember him as a loving, friendly, and faith-filled man whose steady presence and kind heart touched many lives.
Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Army, reaching the rank of Specialist 4. His service reflected the sense of duty and commitment that defined him. After his military service, he worked as a custodian for the Carthage R-9 School District, where he was appreciated for his dependable work and his respectful, caring nature. He understood the importance of showing up each day and doing his part, and he took pride in contributing to the schools and the community he loved.
Faith was an important part of Tom’s life. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. His faith guided the way he lived, and it was evident in the kindness he showed to others and the quiet generosity he shared so freely. Tom was also known for his willingness to help wherever he was needed, and he gave his time to causes that mattered deeply to him. He loved to volunteer at the Carthage Crisis Center and was involved with Toys for Tots in Carthage. Through these efforts, Tom helped bring comfort, hope, and joy to others, especially during times when it was needed most. His service to others was not done for recognition, but because he genuinely cared about people and wanted to make a difference in their lives. His compassion and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
Tom is survived by his sisters, Anne Warden, Janice Huntley, Kathy Parker, Nancy Dotson, Mary Berger, and Jeanie Slates (husband Jack); his brothers, Pat Huntley (wife Patty), and Mike Huntley; 15 nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Matthew Huntley and John Huntley. His family was an important part of his life, and he valued the bonds he shared with them throughout the years.
Though he will be deeply missed, Tom’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was marked by devotion to family, country, church, and community, and he will be remembered with gratitude and affection by all whose lives he touched.
