(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Letha Jo Peterson, age 53 of Baxter Springs passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 following an illness.
Letha was born in Parsons, KS on July 8, 1967 to the union of Charles Edward Corn, Jr. and Martha Jo (Richards) Corn. She graduated from Joplin High School with the Class of 1985, and also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from Pittsburg State University in 2018.
She was a lifetime resident of the four-state area, spending many years in Pittsburg, KS. She worked as an in-home care aide for Home Instead Senior Care out of Joplin. While in Pittsburg, she attended Lighthouse Tabernacle Church.
After moving to Baxter Springs, she began attending the First Assembly of God. She was a member of the T.O.P.S. Program, and was also active in her church’s Sunday School class. She always strived to help others, and carried herself with a pleasant demeanor, joyful spirit and sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Corn, Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Martha Corn; one brother, Stephen Corn (wife, Holly) of Alamosa, CO; one sister, Stephanie Mackensen (husband, Dale) of rural Columbus; as well as her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Ms. Peterson was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus for cremation. The family will host a gathering at a later date where she will be laid to rest at Friendship Cemetery, rural Columbus.
