(From Mickey Leopold Funeral Home)IIla “Jean” (Lowrey) Bacon, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas due to complications of Covid-19. She was born to Leon E. and Lucy Ann (Berry) Lowrey in Neosho, Missouri on February 28, 1930. She grew up in Neosho on the family farm.
Jean was baptized at a young age in the river near her home. She attended the Neosho Schools graduating from Neosho High School. After graduation, she moved out to Northwest Kansas to help her sister with her children. Her sister’s husband was working for the Foster Farms near Rexford, Kansas.
When Jean was done helping her sister, she worked in the Rexford Café. Henry Lloyd “Red” Bacon was a regular at the café and Jean met and fell in love with him. Jean and Lloyd were married in 1950. They were blessed with two children Danny and Marcy.
Jean and Lloyd lived in Rexford, Kansas where Lloyd was working as a Post Master. Jean helped Lloyd in the Post Office working as a Postal Clerk. December 17, 1968, Lloyd passed away. Exactly three years after Lloyd’s death, Jean was blessed with her first grandson, Kyle Keith Gilbert. Eventually, Jean moved to Hoxie, Kansas. She worked for the Sheridan County Health Complex as Supervisor of the House Keeping Department. She also worked for Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas DSNWK). She loved cooking and enjoyed cooking for her grandson, Bryce. Gardening and doing yard work was a passion of hers. She always wanted her yard to look nice and mowed it as often as she could. Jean loved going to her grandkids wrestling, basketball, and volleyball events. Royal’s baseball and Red’s ice cream where something she really enjoyed. Jean was an energetic, on the go person and loved looking for a bargain at the flea markets, Swap Shop, or garage sales.
Jean is survived by her son, Danny Bacon and wife Ronda of Hoxie, Kansas; daughter, Marcy Gilbert and husband Keith of Rexford, Kansas; Grandchildren, Kyle Gilbert, Michelle Renner, Seth Gilbert, Shaun Gilbert, Brandy Benavidez, Ashley Breese, Bryce Bacon, and Danielle Bacon; great-grandchildren, Jada Renner, Levi Renner, Talon Breese, Trace Breese, Dominic Benavidez, and Eziekel Benavidez, and sisters, Bessie Lauffer of Independence, Missouri and Ellen Jeffers of Independence, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lloyd “Red” Bacon; Parents, Leon and Lucy Lowrey; brother, Charles Lowrey; sisters, Eunice Wisehart, Virginia Hoppas, Viola Smith, Rosalee Middleton.
A Funeral Service is planned for Monday, November 23, 2020, 2:00 P.M., at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie, Kansas. Burial will follow the service in the Rexford Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 22, 2020, from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Jean is in heaven. She will be missed, but she will always be in the hearts of her family and friends. Hold tight to your memories of her and smile when you think of Jean.
